Sony paperwork hints to an Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact in the works

Sony has done an amazing job at regaining its popularity for cutting-edge smartphones, though we wish we could say the same about its tablets. We can’t deny that we loved the Xperia Tablet Z at the time of our review, but neither this tablet, nor its successor gained a decent level of popularity. We do know that Sony is working on an

Pocketnow Weekly 061: iPhone 5S & 5C, and the new Android and WP8 phablets

There’s one fewer Romanian on this week’s podcast, and we’re no longer hovering over a precarious microphone stand made of empty shoeboxes and trash cans in a European hotel room – but that doesn’t mean this latest episode of the Pocketnow Weekly is lacking in charm. On the contrary, we’ve called in a silver-tongued devil from Honduras and a smooth-talking geocacher from middle America to provide two very different perspectives on some very high-visibility smartphones. That’s right: it’s Apple week. That special time of year where iOS makes ...

Pocketnow Bloopers – episode 3, IFA 2013 edition (Video)

IFA 2013 in Berlin was crazy. Stupid crazy. The kind of crazy that makes people say and do stupid things on video – and we’ve got the footage to prove it. If you think it all goes according to plan on the first take, think again. Sure, we could settle for getting tongue-twisted, soldiering on through the screwups, and putting out your usual run-of-the-mill tech clips – but we strive to make each of our videos worthy of the time you invest in watching them. Sometimes we get it right the first time, but more ...

Pocketnow Weekly 060: IFA 2013, Live from Berlin!

We’ve been bringing you our best quality mobile-tech podcast once a week for over a year now, and we’re not about to break that streak on one of the biggest tech weeks of the year. Sure, we might’ve missed our usual Wednesday/Thursday time slot, and we might’ve even technically missed the weekend dividing line, depending on what time zone you’re in – but you know what? We’ve just capped off four days of intense video coverage with a midnight podcast from one of the most echo-filled hotel rooms in all of Berlin, and we’re uploading it through ...

MyKronoz ZeNano smart watch: hands-on from IFA 2013 (Video)

The Galaxy Gear might be the only smart watch setting headlines ablaze here at IFA 2013, but it’s not the only one on the show floor. Fresh on the heels of our quick Galaxy Gear vs Pebble comparison, we ran headlong into the booth of Swiss manufacturer MyKronoz, where we unearthed the company’s small collection of Bluetooth-enabled smart watches. The newest and most advanced of these, the MyKronoz ZeNano, ...

The Galaxy Note 3′s new S Pen features explained (Video)

We’re still a little ways out from being able to take you on a premium-style guided tour of the new Galaxy Note 3, but as IFA 2013 is winding down, we thought we’d try explaining some of the new phablet’s fresh features in another video from Samsung’s mammoth airplane hangar exhibit hall here in Berlin. In this short tour, we focus on the Note 3′s new S Pen features: everything that can be launched from the Air Command menu, including the innovative text-reading action-jump and the fresh new ...

Samsung Group Play video sharing demo (Video)

Starting with the Samsung Galaxy S 4, multiple owners of the same phone (we’re referring to the S 4) were able to experience the same tunes playing, at the same time, on multiple devices. Now, with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Group Play is on steroids and it does video. In the video below you will see a cool demonstration on how you can share local video content from your Note 3 with your friends. You can either watch the same movie on all devices, or you can have a big, singular, canvas (multi-screen) where content expands on all of the screens. Check it out below!

HTC One in red & blue: hands-on from IFA 2013 (Video)

The red version of the HTC One was the first to join the initial, conservative, colors: black and silver. It’s been rumored first, then leaked, and, finally, HTC decided to go official on June 27. The phone was initially an exclusive, for Phones4U in the UK, MediaMarkt in Germany, Sprint in the US, and Vodafone in other countries. The blue HTC One (and One Mini, which we couldn’t shoot because it was missing from the floor) was introduced together with the Desire 601 and 300 (also ...

Galaxy Note 3 cases, colors, and customization (Video)

At the most basic level, Samsung doesn’t offer users many options when it comes to their choice of the Note 3. Sure, there’s the SoC issue, but that’s going to be determined more by your network provider than any personal whim. But for the phone itself, Samsung’s only launching it in white, black, and pink – a far cry from the sort of thing we’ve seen lately from phones like the Moto X. That’s not even close to the end of the story, however, as ...

Archos tablets hands-on (Video)

Saying that Archos sells a number of different tablets is like saying that Crayola makes a few crayon colors; for a manufacturer without the brand recognition of a Samsung, Archos manages to put out an impressive variety of tablets, in all the different sizes, colors, and price ranges you could hope for. We already showed you one of the company’s 2013 smartphones, and now we switch gears for a moment to dive into the array of tablets Archos brought along to the IFA this year. First, there’s the Chef Pad, one ...

Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 vs. Apple iPad (Video)

A couple days back, we had the chance to go hands-on with Samsung’s newest tablet, the big, high-res Galaxy Note 10.1. From the S-pen support, to the choice of processors, to the new faux-leather-texture back panel (complete with that darling fake stitchwork), the new 10.1 shares more than just a name with the also-brand-new Note 3. As the new Samsung tablet heavyweight to beat, we were interested to see how it would compare to its competition, so swung back around Samsung’s way for another look at the ...

Archos 53 Platinum hands-on (Video)

One nice thing about events like the IFA is that they give us the chance to go hands-on with phones we might have heard about already, but haven’t yet had the chance to interact with ourselves. That’s the case with Archos and its 53 Platinum, an Android smartphone the company announced back in April. Along with the 35 Carbon and 50 Platinum, the 53 was also crazy cheap, with a list price of only $250. Is it going to come across as a cheaply made phone, or would we be impressed by the build quality? We ...

Acer Liquid S2 hands-on (Video)

Acer was one of those OEMs to really make a point to get its IFA announcements out early, and we brought you news of its new products all the way back on Monday. Now that we’re actually in Berlin, crawling the show floor of IFA 2013, we were able to swing by Acer’s camp and check out some of what it had to bring. The Liquid S2, along with other new phones like Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3, will be one of the first Androids capable of recording 4K Ultra HD video. You may not have a set that can even display ...

Galaxy Gear vs. Pebble smartwatch (Video)

For months, the Pebble smartwatch has been our go-to recommendation for people interested in checking out such wearable technology, but now it faces new competition in the form of the Galaxy Gear. Issues with differences in feature sets and compatibility has us wondering if maybe there’s a place in the market for both these products, but with the opportunity presented to us by the IFA in Berlin, we felt we should still place ...

Sony Vaio Tap 11 hands-on (Video)

Sony’s no stranger to the tablet world, releasing the very impressive Xperia Tablet Z earlier this year, but when it comes to Windows 8 tablets, the company is only just now testing the waters. Besides the Xperia Z1 and those Cyber-shot lens-style cameras, Sony brought a new tablet to show off at this year’s IFA, the Windows-8-running Vaio Tap 11. As should be obvious from the name, we’re looking at an 11-inch screen, this time with a 1080p ...
