Apple’s Black Friday ‘shopping event’ is all about gift cards for old gear

You weren’t really expecting free latest-generation iPhones straight from on and offline Apple Stores, right? If you were, you must not know who you’re dealing with here. This is a profit-hungry company that didn’t even hold a Black Friday sale last year, so we should probably be thankful they’re now offering these modest complimentary gift cards with select iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Apple TV purchases.

Namely, up to $50 coupons are to be had stateside if you’re in the market for a SIM-free iPhone SE, 6s or 6s Plus today only, up to $100 gifts on all available iPad models, including Pros, the Air 2 and Mini 4, a flat $25 freebie for the Apple Watch Series 1 family, $150 with “select” Macs (no Touch Bar variant), and $25 when you buy an Apple TV.

Extremely similar one-day deals are on across a number of other territories, like Canada or Australia, and it goes without saying you can save a lot more through third-party retailers or carriers. For instance, T-Mobile and Verizon on American shores. Not to mention the avalanche of direct iPad markdowns at Best Buy, Walmart, Target and so on. Still, if you absolutely have to do your shopping at Apple, up to $150 gift cards are better than nothing, we guess.

Apple Store cryptically previews one-day Black Friday ‘shopping event’

Guess who’s coming to the Black Friday discount party. Apple, that’s right, and not just through third-party retailers like Walmart, Target or Best Buy this time around.

The actual online US Apple Store will apparently participate in the special “one-day shopping” festivities on November 25, alongside brick and mortar locations too, some of which may even offer “extended” shopping hours.

The fastest way to get in on the looming iDeals is obviously the dedicated Apple Store app, and in-stock items ordered by 5:00 pm shall qualify for free two-day delivery. Alas, that’s all we know about Cupertino’s Black Friday comeback, but recalling other such sales from a few years ago isn’t exactly a major enthusiasm booster.

Gift cards and Apple Music subscription freebies are probably the best you can hope to receive, along with trivial markdowns on old and/or unpopular devices like Apple TVs, the Apple Watch Series 1, iPhone 6s or SE, iPad mini 2 or Air 2, and previous-generation Mac gear.

Still, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on Apple Stores come Friday, and if we’re right to expect overall disappointing special offers, there’s always Best Buy or Walmart to fall back on. The former has already revealed it’ll be selling the iPhone 7 with up to $250 coupons on Verizon, AT&T or Sprint installment plans, also letting you save a decent $125 on all iPad Air 2 models.

Meanwhile, Walmart is cooking up $250 gift card giveaways for all iPhones, $70 iPad mini 2 discounts, and a sweet $100 iPhone 5s Straight Talk doorbuster.

Best Buy has dozens of sweet mobile Black Friday deals in the works, a few are already live

Black Friday is still technically a couple of weeks away, but Best Buy couldn’t just sit idly by while Walmart, Target and Staples bathed in the detailed deal preview spotlight.

This US discount specialist however takes things to the next level, not only revealing what’s in the pipeline for Thursday and Friday, November 24 and 25, both on and offline, also putting over a dozen must-buy items on a very compelling early sale today.

You can therefore already pay a measly $550 for an official US unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7, down from $670, free fast charge wireless pad included. Or how about a cheaper-than-ever $600 Intel Core m3-powered Surface Pro 4 with 128GB storage and a keyboard bundled in? You’d rather wait and see what’s coming on Thanksgiving? Here are some highlights across mobile, wearable and home entertainment categories:

  • Up to a $250 gift card for iPhone 7 with monthly installment billing
  • $160 savings on Verizon, AT&T or Sprint iPhone SE
  • $125 off all iPad Air 2 models
  • Apple Watch Series 1 starting at $219, Series 2 for $369 and up
  • Free $250 gift card and Gear VR with GS7 and S7 Edge

Samsung Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7 headline Target’s massive list of Black Friday deals

Following in an arch-rival’s footsteps, America’s second-largest discount retailer has just willingly unveiled its fast-approaching Black Friday 2016 deal bonanza, and while we can’t help but notice a few similarities to what Staples has in the pipeline, Target will cater to a much wider range of bargain hunters.

Without further ado, we’d like to direct your attention to several mobile and wearable must-buys available at their lowest prices in deeply limited quantities starting Thanksgiving Day.

Target lends Samsung a hand with its Note 7 recovery efforts by shining the spotlight on the Korean company’s top replacements. Both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge activated on Verizon, AT&T or Sprint are to hook you up with free $250 gift cards, Gear VR headsets, and $50 worth of Oculus content.

Meanwhile, the hot new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus on the same three carriers will net you “just” complimentary $250 coupons, though you’ll be able to save good money on some other Apple products too.

Namely, the iPad mini 2, Air 2, Pro 9.7, all Apple TV models still around, Apple Watch Series 1, and yes, even the Series 2. If you want a cheaper wearable, look for the $50 Garmin Vivofit Jr., $60 Vivofit 3, $120 Vivosmart HR+, $90 Fitbit Charge HR, $100 Alta, or $130 Charge 2. Last but not least, don’t forget about obligatory markdowns on latest-generation Chromecast and Fire TV Stick media streamers.

watchOS 3, iOS 10 released, but take your time with it

In another day or two, we’ll probably have to publish a quick story about how fast iOS 10 is being adopted and the torrents of people finding major, iPhone- or iPhone-bricking problems with the update.
