LG will formally announce its exit from phone business on April 5: Report

Now let’s talk about LG, as I hate to say this, but this might be the beginning for the ned. Over the past couple of months there’s been multiple reports claiming that LG would be exiting the smartphone market but, it looks like it will happen. According to a new report from the Korea Times, LG has reportedly entered a transition phase where they are relocating their employees from the smartphone division to other business units. As a matter of fact, they came in contact with a company official and he mentioned that they will be making an announcement regarding the “direction of their mobile communication business soon.” If you’re wondering how soon, the report cites industry sources that claim that they will be making an official announcement at their board meeting on Monday, April 5. We won’t speculate here as we’re so close but, it’s really sad to see LG go after all the innovation they’ve brought. Guys, the LG G4 still has some of my favorite photos of all time. It truly is not good news if it ends up happening.

Sony Xperia 1 III leak reveals an overpowered Android specs monster

Let’s move the spotlight on to Sony as, we have some new leaks for their upcoming flagship. A little over a month ago we got some leaks for the new design from OnLeaks but, we didn’t have much other information to go from. Now we have some leaked specs from Weibo that well, reveal everything else. The Xperia 1 III will reportedly pack an HDR 4K OLED Display running at 120Hz on Sony’s typical 21:9 aspect ratio. It’ll be powered by the Snapdragon 888 along with either 12 or 16 Gigs of RAM and up to half a terabyte of storage. It also brings a 5000 mAh battery with support for 65W fast charging but, they don’t mention any details on wireless charging. When it comes to the cameras, we will reportedly get a 64MP main sensor, a long with a 12MP wide angle and a 12MP telephoto which relies on a periscope lens that’ll deliver 60x zoom which is most likely digital. Sony already made their event official for April 14th, so stay tuned as this might just be the first time I’m really enticed to try one.

2023 iPhone SE refresh might pack a bigger display with a radical design change

Now since we know that Sony phone won’t be cheap, let’s talk about a more affordable product with the nest-generation iPhone SE. There’s been multiple reports talking about how we will be getting a refresh this year or next year but, it won’t bring a new design. Well, we just got a new tweet from Ross Young where he gives us leaks on multiple future models. Speaking of the one next year, he claims it will still bring a 4.7-inch LCD display with some rumors claiming it might bring both flavors of 5G. Where it gets interesting is when he mentions that he’s hearing about a 6.1-inch variant coming in 2023 with a punch hole instead of the notch. If you haven’t been paying attention lately, reports from very trusted sources claim that Cupertino will finally move on to punch holes, either next year or 2023 so it makes sense. Of course we’re still very far away but let’s see what happens as, we should be getting that rumored SE+ soon right? Or hey I hope so..

Story of the day:

Google said to arm Pixel 6 with an in-house chip, just like Apple does for iPhones

But finally, for the hottest news today let’s talk about Google and Pixels.. But no, it’s not a hands on leak or anything like that.. Yet.. Give it a day or two. If you remember, there was a report that came out in April last year that claimed that Google was designing their own chip called “Whitechapel” to go in Pixels and Chromebooks. Pretty much what Apple has been doing with iPhones since the 4, iPads since Gen 1, and the Mac since the M1. Well, a new report from 9to5Google claims that the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 5a which are codenamed Raven and Oriole respectively, will be among the first phones to be equipped with a chip based on this Whitechapel platform. Also, notice birds for the codenames now and not fish. To quote the report, “Whitechapel is an effort from Google to create their own SoC, similar to how Apple did for the Mac, iPads and iPhones.” They’re apparently co-developing Whitechapel with Samsung which already rivals Snapdragon when it comes to Android phones. Now, speaking of Qualcomm, I wonder what’s going to happen with them as we know that they’ve had a big partnership with Google. I mean, the first-ever Snapdragon debuted on the first ever Google Nexus One. The chip is apparently called GS101 internally, with GS probably standing for Google Silicon. So, if you guys think about it, it looks like Google wants to go toe to toe with Apple considering, they make Android, they make the Pixels, they make the Chromebooks, they own the Play Store, and now they’ll be making the chips. If they do pull an Apple, this could just mean that Chromebooks will get better at running Android Apps and stuff.

iPhone 6s and 2016 iPhone SE may not get the next iOS 15 update

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

If there’s something that we have to praise about Apple, is how they give software support to their older devices. The latest iOS 14 update is available for every single iPhone device launched in 2015, meaning that the iPhone 6s and the previous-generation iPhone SE, launched in 2016, can still get a taste of Apple’s latest features. However, rumors now claim that Apple could drop support for these two iPhone models with the upcoming iOS 15 update.

Apple will most likely unveil the new iOS version in June during its WWDC event that’s mainly focused on presenting new features and software updates. Unfortunately, it may not be all good news. According to the French site iPhoneSoft, iOS 15 won’t be available for Apple devices with the A9 chip, meaning the iPhone 6S lineup and the first iPhone SE.

We can’t say that this rumor comes as a surprise and more when we consider that these devices are more than five years old. Still, this isn’t official information, so take this with a grain of salt. Let’s remember that rumors also suggested that the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus weren’t going to catch the iOS 14 train, but Apple still managed to include them in the package.

It is believed that iOS will only work on iPhones that have an A10 Chip or more recent processors, meaning that you can still carry your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus for another year. In other words. You may want to start thinking about upgrading to a more contemporary iPhone model. Rumors also suggest that there will also be changes on iPadOS 15, as the 2015 iPad mini, the 2014 iPad Air, and the 2017 iPad 5 may also lose support. This may seem a bit harder to believe since these devices work on different chipsets, especially the iPad 5 that features the Apple A9 chip. Still, it would be best if you also started to consider a new iPad, especially when rumors are talking about a new iPad 9 less than a year after the launch of the latest iPad 8 model.

New Apple AirPods Pro, iPhone SE are on their way: Report

There have been rumors of Apple working on its next wearables. The company could launch the 3rd gen AirPods and 2nd gen AirPods Pro in 2021. Moreover, it could also be working on a third HomePod model, which is said to sit in between the HomePod and recently launched HomePod Mini. A new report goes on to say that the iPhone SE is not a lost caused yet. Apple is working on the 3rd generation of the product, and it could be launched in April 2021.

The latest development comes via the Japanese website Macotakara. It cites information from suppliers in China to suggest that Apple’s next AirPods Pro and iPhone SE are due in April this year. The report further gives information about the upcoming audio device. The 2nd gen AirPods Pro could have the same 21mm thickness, while the height and length are said to be 46mm and 54mm, respectively.

It is a bit different from the predecessor but not significantly so. Apple is claimed to be planning to make the earbuds more compact by eliminating the short stem that currently sticks out from the bottom. The said design is in the testing phase with a more rounded shape that fills more of a user’s ear. As per a previous report, the AirPods Pro 2 might use the in-house W2 chip. It could also come in two sizes.

The report also mentions the presence of 3rd-gen iPhone SE. However, nothing else is known about the device at the moment.

As per an earlier report, the design of 3rd gen Apple AirPods will be similar to the current AirPods Pro. This means it will have a shorter stem and replaceable ear tips. The company is touted to be working on improving the battery life of the device. Despite the design, the upcoming AirPods will not have higher-end AirPods Pro features like noise-cancellation.

OnePlus Nord SE with 65W fast charging is in development: Report

We know that OnePlus has been having a pretty busy year, especially when it comes to their Nord line up which recently expanded to the US. Well, speaking on that, a new report claims that they are prepping another Nord device for the US. This device would be called the Nord SE and is being developed under the codename “Ebba”. It reportedly brings a 4500 mAh battery and it supports 65W charging, giving you a full charge in under 40 minutes. On the front we might get an OLED panel unlike the ones we got with the recent Nord, and sadly we still have no details on the cameras or processor. OnePlus apparently hasn’t settled on a launch date just yet, pun intended, but we might get it shortly after the OnePlus 9 launch which will apparently happen in March.

Samsung Galaxy S20 and Note 20 devices are experiencing wireless charging issues

Let’s talk about Samsung but, not for Galaxy S21 leaks. Several users have been complaining about wireless charging issues, ever since the latest firmware update. These issues are happening on the Galaxy Note 20 and S20 lines and according to the users, your wireless charging gets constantly interrupted every few seconds. Some of these are third party chargers but, they claim that everything was fine with that same charger until that firmware update happened. We’re not sure if it was the October or September patch but, users have tried even factory resetting their devices and it doesn’t help out. We’ll see if Samsung puts out statement or releases a hot fix, we’ll keep you posted.

LG’s new rollable phone may be called LG Slide

Let’s talk about LG as, the company has been on kind of a roll lately… pun intended. But yeah, they got back in the spotlight thanks to the Wing, and they quickly teased that they were working on a roll-able smartphone as part of their Explorer Project. Well, the company just trademarked the name “LG Slide” in the EUIPO which, is kind of a clear hint as to what this devices is going to be called. LG has trademarked other names like “The Roll” before but, the LG Slide sounds cleaner. For those of you who haven’t seen the leaks, this phone should slide out or roll from it’s regular state to reveal a much larger canvas, it will most likely be aimed at both content consumption and productivity. It’s pretty much a Galaxy Fold that doesn’t Fold.. It rolls. We should expect it some time in Q1 next year. So, are you guys interested in a phone like this? Because it is definitely cool to see.

iPhone 13 may arrive with F/1.8 ultrawide lens and LTPO displays

New iPhone SE not coming in the first half of 2021: Ming-Chi Kuo

Let’s talk about upcoming iPhones and Ming Chi Kuo reports. Well, according to a new alleged report, it won’t happen in the first half of 2020, quick only means that the possibility of another iPhone SE is not happening yet. It claims that there is some stiff competition between four Apple suppliers to be in charge of the iPhone 13’s camera and this might hinder the iPhone SE’s production. So, apparently Apple is putting their effort in to the iPhone 13 which we’ll talk about soon and that might move the iPhone SE to the back seat. Now, we don’t know if this phone will be getting a redesign like rumors hinted to the previous one but we should technically still expect it next year, just not in the first half of the year. Let’s move on to the iPhone 13. On his most recent note, Kuo claims that we’ll be getting 4 iPhones once again and that the Pros will get a hardware update when it comes to the cameras. He claims that the ultra wide lens will be an F/1.8 6P lens with autofocus. This means that we should get noticeable improvements over the current iPhones which pack an F/2.4 5P fixed focus ultra wide lens. Another report claims that these iPhones’ display will use 10-20% less power than the 12 line. This is because we’ll be reportedly getting LTPO displays which are already on the Apple Watch. This will also allow for high refresh rate, finally, while using less power. Other rumors for the iPhone 13 also hint to an on-display fingerprint sensor and a smaller notch.

Story of the day:

Google Account and Google Photos’ storage policies will change, for worse?

Now let’s talk about Google and probably one of the services that I recommend most, which I might not recommend any more. Google just made some major changes on its storage policies, and unless you own a Pixel, prepare your wallet. The first is that Google is now making Google Docs, Sheets and Slides count toward storage caps on your Google Drive, whether you’re on the base 15GB or pay extra. The problem is Google Photos. In the past you had free unlimited storage for high quality photos and video, which Google would convert and optimize for you. Well as of June 1st, 2021, unless you own a Pixel, those high quality photos and videos will also count toward your storage limitations. This is a major problem. In the past I would recommend that people with limited storage simply use Google Photos to back everything up, but now that could become a recurring monthly fee depending on how much you’ve backed up. In Google’s defense, they’re pretty much following the practice that every other company in the industry was providing, but it makes you wonder what holds anyone back from just getting 2TB on Office 365, backup your photos on OneDrive, and get superior solution to Google Docs with Microsoft Office apps.

New iPhone SE not coming in the first half of 2021: Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple released the second-generation iPhone SE earlier this year. The smartphone went on sale in April 2020. Naturally, people are expecting Apple to launch a new iPhone SE next year. However, that might not happen. An alleged report by Kuo states that there may not be a new iPhone SE in the first half of 2021. The reason is not something you’d expect.

The latest development comes from a report by MyFixGuide that cites Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. It states that there won’t be a new iPhone SE in the first half of 2021. The report says there is stiff competition between four Apple suppliers for the anticipated iPhone 13’s cameras that might hinder the production of a new iPhone SE.

It is said that Kuo believes the market underestimates the impact of the competition being faced by Taiwan’s Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO), a company that provides camera hardware to Apple. Now, there are three other players – Largan Precision, Semco (Samsung Electro-mechanics), and a new firm named Sunny Optical. Hence, due to this competition, Apple’s plans for the new iPhone SE have been hindered.

Moreover, it is tipped that GSEO might lose orders for the ultra-wide-angle lens in the yet-unannounced iPhone 13 due to the competition. Reportedly, GSEO fulfilled 50 percent orders of the ultra-wide lens for iPhone 12. The number might come down to  30 percent for iPhone 13.

Apple launched the second-gen iPhone SE (review) with the internals of iPhone 11 in the body of iPhone 8. It is the cheapest 2020 iPhone model available in the market. Soon after the launch, it gained popularity and was the best selling iPhone alongside the iPhone 11 last quarter. Hence, Apple is expected to follow it up with a successor in 2021. However, that won’t happen in the first half of next year.
