Latest leak suggest LG’s Rollable phone got very close to an official launch

As we all know, LG is out of the smartphone segment. On Monday, April 5, the company officially announced that it was shutting down its phone business after failing to find a buyer to take on its legacy in the phone world. However, that doesn’t mean that the company had stopped working on its path to innovation. They developed some of the most daring phone designs in the last few months, and many of us, myself included, were waiting to see the launch of the company’s rollable device.

The LG Rollable phone was expected to launch in the early months of 2021. Rumors also claimed that the successor of the V60 was also getting ready to make an early appearance. Unfortunately, rumors suggested that LG was in talks to sell its phone business, so the V70 had to be put on infinite hold. LG’s rollable device was also affected by these rumors, as it never received an official launch date, even though leaks suggested it was very close to becoming official.

Evidence of this was found on March 19, when the Rollable phone received its certification on the Bluetooth SIG. Now, the latest information has surfaced online, where we can see that LM-R910VM received its NFC certification on January 5. Unfortunately, we may never get to see the actual device or at least a final production unit of the LG Rollable.

Closing its smartphone business will help the company stop losing money, and for those who own an LG device, worry not. LG will continue to provide support and Android updates for their current devices until the arrival of Android 13, which means you get at least two years of software updates. You can check out a chart that let’s you see which devices will go all the way to Android 13 and which will stay stuck on Android 12.

Stare and shed a tear for these high-end LG phones that will never release

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

In case you haven’t already come across hundreds of social media obituaries about LG and the articles detailing its rise and fall, the LG smartphone brand is dead. And with the company’s exit from the market, a few high-profile upcoming phones have also been nixed. Not that we didn’t hear about that happening much earlier, but the official confirmation still came as a bittersweet surprise. Among those canceled projects were the V70 ThinQ flagship and the Rollable, both of which have now appeared in leaked images.

Starting with the V70 ThinQ aka Rainbow, this one was going to succeed the LG V60 ThinQ, a high-end Android flagship that came with a cool dual-screen attachment and powerful internals. The white rear panel appears to be made out of glass that slopes on the sides to meet the metallic frame. The overall design is reminiscent of the LG Velvet, which itself marked the beginning of a fresh design language for premium LG phones. But as fate would have it, the Velvet will walk off into the sunset as a one-of-a-kind LG phone sporting a design unlike any other in the company’s portfolio.

The second one- and probably the more high-profile cancellation – was the LG Rollable. LG teased the device at CES 2021 and it was scheduled to debut later this year. The device had a rollable screen that expanded to turn the phone into tablet mode, somewhat like the OPPO X 2021, which itself might not be launched commercially.

LG Rollable was the second phone under the Explorer Project initiative – the first one was the swiveling LG Wing – that sought to explore innovative ideas and newer form factors for smartphones. Among all the rollable phone concepts I’ve seen so far, the LG offering looked the most practical. We never got to know about the innards or the technology behind that extending-retracting display, and it is likely that we never will. So long for a promising product that could’ve revived LG’s fortunes in a nascent segment.

LG Rollable nears launch as it gets certified on Bluetooth SIG

LG gave us the first glimpse at its upcoming rollable phone back in January. Since then, we’ve heard conflicting rumors surrounding the device. However, the company has already confirmed that it will be launching the LG Rollable in 2021. Now, the phone has been spotted on Bluetooth SIG, which indicates that the official launch is just around the corner.

The LG Rollable has received Bluetooth SIG certification. While the certification doesn’t reveal any specifications of the upcoming device, it does highlight the phone’s model number — LM-R910N — and product name — LG Rollable. Moreover, the certification mentions that the device is an “End Product”. This leads us to believe that the device is all set to launch in the coming months.

Earlier leaks have said that the LG Rollable could launch in June. It is tipped that the phone was supposed to be launched in March but it has been postponed to June. The device has already been registered in South Korea’s carrier intranet database. It also revealed the same model number of LM-R910N.

The LG Rollable could feature a 7.4-inch rollable display. It is likely to work in different aspect ratios. There might be a Phone mode with 2428 × 1080 pixel resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. You could also get a Video mode that might have a 2428 × 1366 pixel resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. Similarly, it could also include a Productivity mode with 2428 × 1600 pixel resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio.

The LG Rollable is rumored to come equipped with 16GB of RAM. Moreover, it is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship chipset. It could come with a 4,200mAh battery.

We expect the company to start teasing its upcoming device in a couple of months as the LG Rollable it tipped to launch in June. However, there is no official confirmation on the launch date.

LG’s wild Rollable Phone is actually launching in 2021

LG gave us the first glimpse of its upcoming rollable phone, the unimaginatively named LG Rollable, a day ago at CES 2021. The phone has a wild slide-out extending display design that will turn it into a tablet in a few seconds. The concept is futuristic and LG’s teaser certainly fanned the hype. Now, the company has confirmed that its rollable smartphone will be launched in 2021. In addition to LG, OPPO will also be launching its take on the concept called OPPO X 2021 later this year.

LG has joined hands with China's BOE to make its rollable phone's display

“Our management wanted to show that it is a real product, as there were many rumors around the rollable phone,” LG spokesperson Ken Hong was quoted as saying by Nikkei Asia. “As it is released at CES 2021, I can tell that it will be launched this year.” As per the report, LG is working with China’s BOE Technology – one of the world’s largest manufacturers of, LCD, OLEDs and flexible displays – for producing the LG Rollable’s display.

The specifications of LG’s rollable, and more importantly, the mechanism behind how the extending screen gimmick has been brought to life, remain shrouded in mystery. So far, the company has only revealed that the LG Rollable is part of its Explorer Project initiative that will focus on developing devices with experimental designs and capabilities to push the boundaries of smartphone innovation and develop new use case scenarios. The first product to come out of this project was the LG Wing which had a swiveling dual-screen design.

Rumors suggest that the LG Rollable will cost somewhere around $2359, which is to be expected from a device with hardware like this. The device is said to pack a 7.4-inch display that will adjust its resolution to different values based on three scenarios – a phone mode, video mode, and a productivity mode. Inside, it will reportedly draw power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC paired with a healthy 16 gigs of RAM. But these are all rumors, so process them with a healthy dose of skepticism.

LG gives us the first glimpse of its upcoming rollable phone in action

LG first teased its upcoming rollable phone packing a retractable slide-out display back in September last year. Following the teaser, we’ve come across multiple leaks surrounding the next ambitious LG device which is part of its Explorer Project initiative. Well, we finally have our first real-life look at the futuristic phone. As part of its CES video press conference, the company twice gave us a glimpse of the device in action.

LG Rollable might arrive in the first half of 2021

Touted to debut as LG Rollable, the device appears to employ a motorized mechanism that extends the panel outside or retracts it inside depending on the use-case scenario. Unfortunately, the company has not revealed any details about the engineering behind its rollable phone. But at first glance, it appears to take the same approach as TCL’s own smartphone-tablet hybrid with an extendable display. To recall, OPPO also showcased a similar device called OPPO X 2021 that features a flexible display with a similar slide-out design.

As per reports emerging out LG’s home market, LG Rollable will make its debut in the first half of 2021. Rumors suggest that the device will feature an OLED display and might eventually hit the shelves carrying the name LG Slide. Another leak that emerged last month mentioned that the LG Rollable will cost somewhere around $2359, which puts it in an even higher price bracket than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Rumors suggest that the LG offering will feature a 7.4-inch display that will work in three scenarios – a phone mode that outputs 2428×1080 resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio, a video mode with 2428×1366 resolution figures, while a productivity mode changes those numbers to 2428×1600 pixels. This will likely materialize by extending the rollable OLED panel to a variable extent. Inside, the LG device will reportedly pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 SoC, 16 gigs of RAM, and a 4,200mAh battery

LG Rollable tipped to cost USD 2,359; specs leaked

LG is said to be preparing another smartphone under its ‘Explorer Project’ after the launch of its LG Wing. The upcoming phone is being referred to as LG ‘Rollable.’ Previously, it has been claimed to be named ‘LG Slide‘. Recently, a report claimed that the company is working on bringing the LG Rollable to the market in the first half of 2021. Now, specs and price of the upcoming phone have appeared online.

These come from popular tipster Tron on Twitter. The tipster revealed that LG Rollable’s launch is scheduled for March but it could be postponed to June. In another tweet, he claimed that the launch is set for May. However, this reiterates with previous reports that claimed that the smartphone will launch sometime in the first half of 2021.

The LG Slide aka LG Rollable has already been registered in South Korea’s carrier intranet database. It carries the carrier model number LM-R910N and the unlocked model number is OMD-LM-R910N. The smartphone is rumored to come with a rollable OLED display. It could feature a 7.4-inch Rollable display. There are different aspect ratios that it is expected to work in.

For instance, there might be a Phone mode with 2428 × 1080 pixel resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. Similarly, Video mode could have a 2428 × 1366 pixel resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio, while it could also include a Productivity mode with 2428 × 1600 pixel resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio. LG to launch its rollable phone in H1 2021: Report

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

After the LG Wing, the company is said to be preparing another smartphone under its ‘Explorer Project’. It is said to be working in ‘LG Slide‘. The phone looks like one of those concepts that seem cool but appear to still be a distant reality. However, that could change in the coming times! It could be launched sooner than expected. A new report claims that the company is working on bringing the LG Slide to the market in the first half of 2021.

As per a report from KoreaITNews, LG is all set to launch the LG Rollable / LG Slide, Rainbow and LG Q83 in the first half of 2021. Amongst these, the Rainbow is said to be its flagship handset, which could be launched in March 2021. Rainbow is expected to be a classic flagship, the next device in the V-series. It will be a bar phone, and the report says it is the successor to LG Velvet and succeeds the V series such as LG V50 ThinQ. It is also said to come equipped with Wacom’s AES (Active Electrostatic) stylus pen.

As for the LG Slide, the company seems to be closing in on the official necessities before the launch as the device was spotted in South Korea’s carrier intranet database. The LG Slide aka LG Rollable has already been registered in South Korea’s carrier intranet database. It carries the carrier model number LM-R910N and the unlocked model number is OMD-LM-R910N. There is little else to know about the upcoming rollable phone, but carrier registration hints that LG could be working on it. The second ‘Explorer Project’ smartphone is unlikely to be a successor to the LG Wing, but it could be the start of something all-new.

It is rumored to come with a rollable OLED display. In November, LG filed two trademark applications at the European Union Intellectual Property Office for the name LG Rollable and LG Slide with just two days difference between them. The previous trademark patent for the LG Rollable also suggests that the new device may also feature stylus support.
