LG is dead, but check out the heavily discounted LG Velvet and Wing right now!

This week has been a tumultuous one for the tech industry. The data of over half a billion Facebook – and LinkedIn – users got leaked. Nokia launched not one, but six budget phones in one go. The global semiconductor shortage tightened its grip around giants such as Google and Apple. But the biggest news was about LG, and the brand’s exit from the smartphone market. Lack of innovation, poor software update cycle, and inability to keep up with the competition are being cited as the key reasons behind LG calling it quits.

While the news led to an outpouring of emotions and countless expert takes on social media, there is some silver lining too. LG’s existing portfolio of phones – especially the premium devices – just got a lot cheaper. Specifically, I am talking about the wild LG Wing with a swiveling dual-screen design and the sleek LG Velvet, both of which have received some sweet discounts merely days after LG’s not-so-shocking announcement.

LG Velvet for around $400, or even lower? Go, get it!

Starting with the LG Velvet, Amazon currently has an unlocked unit going for as low as $379. And if you can settle for a renewed unit, it will cost you an even smaller sum of $275. The phone originally made its way to the US market priced at around $600, while the variant that supports mmWave 5G – which Verizon sells as LG Velvet 5G UW – hit the shelves priced at $700. T-Mobile, on the other hand, has discounted the phone to $400.

For that price, the LG Velvet is a fairly good phone. It has a premium glass-and-metal build with an appealing design, a capable processor (MediaTek Dimensity 1000C / Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G), a trio of cameras at the back, a sufficiently pixel-dense OLED display, and a 4,300mAh battery with wireless charging support. And with LG promising updates for at least another two years, the LG Velvet seems like a very compelling phone at its reduced price. Want to get into the nitty-gritty? Watch Pockentow’s LG Velvet review above.

The wild LG Wing gets a cool 40% discount

Down the road, LG Wing will be a cool piece of smartphone history

Now, this one’s a cool collector’s item, even if you’re not much intrigued about the value proposition here. I mean, just look at the phone. LG was the only brand courageous enough to do such an experiment last year. And even though the phone didn’t prove to be a smash hit, it at least brought something fresh to the table. Also, that second screen isn’t merely a gimmick. Don’t just take my words for it. Watch Pocketnow’s review video above in which Joshua Vergara explains all the pros and cons in detail.

So, the LG Wing made its debut in the US market priced at $999. However, T-Mobile is currently selling it for $599.99. Alternatively, you can go for an installment plan that will set you back by $25 per month for the next two years. For that price, you get a phone that will get at least the next two major Android upgrades, fairly capable hardware, and a ton of bragging rights for you.

The downside?

Well, LG is saying goodbye to the phone market, and will offer software support for some of its premium phones. However, after-sales support might not be as solid down the road as it was last week. Yes, there will be third-party services that can fix your phone if it meets an accident, but that would ultimately depend on the availability of replacement parts, especially for these two premium phones – the LG Velvet and Wing. If you think that gamble is worth taking, go ahead.

LG Wing update aims to solve multitasking woes of its swiveling dual-screen design

The wildly-designed LG Wing with a swiveling dual-screen design made its debut earlier this year. While the hardware was unique and the internals were fairly powerful, one area where the phone couldn’t deliver was an underwhelming software experience that couldn’t fully exploit its swiveling form factor. To resolve some of those issues, the company has started the rollout of a new software update for the Verizon-locked LG Wing that intends “to help optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches.”

The update, which carries the build number F100VM10d, also brings the November Android security patch. Starting with the UI changes, the secondary display now shows the names of apps (widgets and folders), something that was previously absent due to spacing limitations on the small display. A few other aesthetic tweaks have also made their way to the LG Wing courtesy of the latest software update. The biggest change, however, is the way in which apps transition between the two screens.

Moving apps between the two screens of LG Wing is now easier

Now, users can move an app from the smaller screen to the larger swiveling display with ease by using the Fetch or Send buttons from the quick settings panel or by swiping up with three fingers. There is also a restart button that will be visible on the bottom right to relaunch an app in case it acts erratically when moved between the two screens. Also, media controls will now be accessible on the LG Wing’s secondary screen as well

Additionally, the camera app can now directly identify and scan a QR code without having to open a dedicated mode for it. However, users will first have to enable the “Scan QR Code” option in the Settings menu. Moreover, a guide has also been added that prompts users to see a quick preview of the image they’ve just captured by holding the thumbnail icon in the camera app.

LG Wing coming to Verizon on October 15 for $999, pre-orders kick off on October 1

Now let’s talk about LG as the company announced the Wing a couple of weeks ago but, we didn’t get any availability dates or the price tag at their event. Well, if you’re interested pre-orders for this phone will begin on October 1st on Verizon. If you’re not on Verizon, don’t worry, AT&T and T-Mobile will be getting it this fall, and you’ll be able to get it on third party retailers like Amazon and Best Buy as well. For those of you who haven’t been paying attention, the LG Wing is LG’s rotating phone. It packs a 6.8in FHD+ display, with a secondary 3.9in. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 765G, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also packs a triple camera setup that includes a 64MP main sensor, a 13MP wide angle and another 12MP wide angle. The price tag, which hadn’t been revealed is $999 and honestly, it’s not too bad for the features. I’m just curious as to how many of you are willing to take part in this new experiment, because let’s be real, it is.

Confirmed: There is no OnePlus 8T ‘Pro’

OnePlus 8T 5G will run OxygenOS 11; also spotted on Geekbench

Now let’s move on over to OnePlus as we’re basically in Tech-Tober already so, the Pixel isn’t the only thing we’re getting. OnePlus is gearing up to launch their T Series smartphone on October 14th. There’s been multiple rumors and leaks that there won’t be a Pro variant, even if the company has been teasing something “Ultra” for the event. Well, Pete Lau just confirmed that there won’t be an 8T Pro this year as, according to him, “users who like the Pro-level products can choose the regular 8 Pro, the annual machine king. Their current plan is defined in a direction where there won’t be no room for upgrade. And later in that statement he said 8T, hashtag, hashtag and a surprise that is worth the wait. Now, since they’ve been teasing something Ultra and there is no room for upgrade, we could assume that the regular 8T will pack a lot of punch. The leaked specs for this phone include a 6.5in display running at 120Hz, the Snapdragon 865, no Plus, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Finally, it’ll pack a quad camera array at the back with a 48MP main sensor, a 16MP ultra wide and two useless macro and portrait shooters. We’ll keep you posted as we get closer to the event, and no worries, that Macro Camera is not what makes it ultra.

Distributors could get the first iPhone 12 batch as soon as next week

I know it’s Google Day but, let’s talk about the iPhone 12 for a second. Jon Prosser revealed some new details of what and when we should expect them on Twitter a couple of days ago. According to him, the first shipments of finalized iPhone 12 units is going out to distributers on October 5th. This shipment will include the 5.4in iPhone 12 Mini which will start at 64GB of storage and the 6.1in iPhone 12 which also starts at 64GBs. He also mentioned that the 12 and 12 Pro Max will start at 128GB when it comes to storage and, them not being in that shipment list serves as some sort of confirmation that, we won’t be getting these until later and we’re expecting that to be some time early November. Finally, he added that the event will be happening on October 13th after all with pre-orders on the 16th and they’ll be in stores on October 23rd.

Nest Audio becomes official, and it’s now available for pre-order

Chromecast with Google TV is here with a sleek remote, 4K HDR support and a $49.99 price

And yes, today was the Google Event so, let’s start off with everything we got that isn’t Pixel related. And, actually, we thought it would be more but we got two different products. Let’s begin with Project Sabrina which is officially dubbed Chromecast with Google TV. Like the name suggests it’s a small dongle but instead of just letting you stream to it, it brings full blown Google TV. It allows you to stream 4K HDR videos at 60fps, with Dolby Vision and even HDR10+. It also brings a remote which let’s you call on the Google Assistant, and it also has a Netflix and YouTube button. According to Google it’ll bring Stadia support and it is available for $49.99. Finally, let’s move on to Nest Audio which is the successor to the Google Home. This new speaker is 6.89in tall, and weighs over 2 and a half pounds. It includes a 75mm woofer, and a 19mm tweeter to deliver 50% more bass, 75% more volume and give you a clearer sound than the original. Pre-orders are already live and it will be available on October 5th in 21 different countries for $99. We’ll let you know how the experience goes once we get these devices for review as, I’m not gonna lie, I wanna try them ASAP.

Story of the day:

Pixel 4a 5G brings Snapdragon 765G, dual rear cameras for $499

Google Pixel 5 arrives rocking an ultra-wide angle camera and $699 price tag

Finally, of course, the hottest news today have to do with Google, and let’s be real, regardless of how popular we want pixels to be, we really hope this is the time they take off. Let’s 4start off with the Pixel 4a 5G which is, a bigger and actually better version of what we currently have with the Pixel 4a. It has a 6.2in HDR OLED Display running at 60Hz, it is powered by the Snadragon 765G, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. We’ll talk about the cameras once we discuss the Pixel 5 as, they bring the same arrays. Finally, this one packs a 3800 mAh battery and it will come in Just Black and Clearly Black, for $499, oh and did I mention it still brings a headphone jack? And we know, we’re all here for the Pixel 5 so let’s just get to it. This one packs a 6in OLED display but running at 90HZ, it’s also powered by the Snapdragon 765G but it packs 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It also has a larger 4000 mAh battery and, it’s made out of a recycled aluminum enclosure, and It brings wireless charging and even reverse wireless charging for your accessories. Finally, let’s move on to the cameras, they bring an upgraded 12.2MP main sensor with EIS and OIS, and finally a 16MP wide angle camera with a 107° field of view. The selfie camera in the punch hole is an 8MP f/2.0 sensor. They also announced new features like how Night Mode now works for portraits, Portrait Light which let’s you add lighting effects to older photos as well, and a new Bracketing Feature. The Pixel 5 will cost $699 and they’ll be available on October 15th in 9 countries, with a free Stadia, Youtube Premium and Google One subscription.

LG Wing coming to Verizon on October 15 for $999, pre-orders kick off on October 1

LG has finally announced the price of its outlandish Wing smartphone for the US market. If you’ve been eager to lay your hands on the LG’s latest phone with a swiveling secondary display, you’ll have to fork out a cool $999. Pre-orders for the LG Wing kick off on October 1 and it will be up for grabs starting October 15 via Verizon. However, if you are hooked to another carrier, LG assures that the device will arrive on AT&T and T-Mobile as well in the fall season. Unfortunately, we don’t know if LG also plans to sell unlocked units via its own online store or retail partners such as Amazon and BestBuy in the US.

Before we talk about the device’s internal hardware, let’s quickly go through the new experiences that the LG Wing’s swiveling display brings to the table. When you swivel the main display at a 90-degree angle to reveal the secondary display, you can either expand an app’s UI to both screens or run separate apps on each one. For example, you can watch YouTube videos on the main screen while the secondary display will show the comments section. Additionally, you can create shortcuts for two apps that you use simultaneously such as Google Maps and Spotify. And in case you’re wondering, LG says the device can handle more than 200,000 swivels.

Up front, you get a 6.8-inch FHD+ P-OLED display while the secondary display measures 3.9-inch (1240×1080 pixels) diagonally and also doubles as a grip lock. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G SoC runs the show coupled with 8 gigs of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. The Qualcomm chip also brings 5G compatibility to the table. Verizon says that the LG Wing will support its 5G Ultra Wideband network.

The triple rear camera setup includes a 64MP primary snapper, a 13MP wide-angle shooter and another 12MP wide-angle camera that uses what the company calls hexa-motion sensors for a gimbal-like functionality. Selfies are handled by a 32MP pop-up camera. A 4,000mAh battery keeps the lights on, while Android 10 handles things on the software side. If you are interested in buying the LG wing from Verizon, you can check out the financing offers and trade-in discounts here.

This means you can get the entry level variant for the S20 for $799, the S20+ for $999 and the S20 Ultra for $1186, meaning you get a little bit over the $200 mark. Moving on, the latest MacBook Air is $100 off, leaving the 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD variant for $900. We also have more discounts on other storage tiers. The AirPods Pro which I highly recommend are $50 off, leaving them at $199. We have more deals on Razer peripherals, Nintendo Switch controllers and more.

HUAWEI’s Developers Conference

Yes, last week was Huawei’s Developers Conference and we got a ton of new announcements. Day 1 was all about new software and even hardware. We got the new FreeBuds Pro and the FreeLace Pro for those of you looking for true wireless earbuds. We also got new watches like the beautiful Watch GT2 Pro and the fitness tracker Watch Fit and both of these bring pretty impressing battery life. We also got the new Matebook 14 and the Matebook X which are thinner and more powerful. We also got EMUI 11 for Android 11 and Harmony OS which will be coming to smartphones next year. That was only day one. On Day 2 we got a ton of new announcements focused on their HMS Core which is focused on getting new developers to make a move to the App Gallery. For example, they announced their new AI and AR kits for e-commerce. A bunch of gaming improvements like their new Cocos Creator which is a free open source engine which allows developers to launch games to multiple platforms and they are letting developers keep 85% of the game revenue in the app Gallery. They also showed new developments with transport and navigations like their new Location Kit, Nearby Kit and more. So yeah, all eyes on EMUI 11, Harmony OS products next year, and how well the App Gallery looks more developers thanks to the new tools.

Here’s your first detailed look at the OnePlus 8T and its key specifications

We’re still a few weeks away from the OnePlus 8T hopefully and the leaks hinted that this phone wouldn’t be much of a design change but, apparently those were wrong. We have some new CAD renders from OnLeaks that show off the new design. Some of the most notable changes include a flat display and of course, we’re getting a stove at the back. This new stove module will actually pack a quad camera array according to these renders. Back to the display and the rest of the specs, it’ll reportedly be a 6.55in FHD+ display, running at 120Hz, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, not the Plus, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for the entry level model. It’ll run on Android 11 and it’ll bring a 4500 mAh battery. Finally, according to the video, it’ll bring a 48MP main sensor which will reportedly be an upgrade over the one on the 8, a 16MP wide angle lens, a 5MP macro and a 2MP portrait camera. We’ll keep you posted as, the launch should happen some time soon now… but yeah, I know.. Identical to the Galaxy S20.

LG WING with Swivel display goes official

After about a month of leaks, the LG Wing is finally official. IT features a 6.8in P-OLED Full Vision main display with a 3.9in secondary with doubles up as a grip lock. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of expandable storage and a 4000 mAh battery. It has a triple camera setup at the back which consists of a 64MP main sensor, and two 13MP ultra wide cameras as well as a 32MP selfie shooter at the front. It brings different modes for you to be able to take advantage of both screens like “Swivel Mode” once you rotate the device, “Basic Mode” when the phone is in its natural state and even “Grip Lock Mode” which let’s you use the secondary display to show information like the time and date while it ignores accidental touches. The company also mentions that the hinge mechanism is still reliable after 200,000 swivels. It’ll come to the US, the UK, Australia and other countries but we don’t have an official date or a price tag yet.

Alleged hands-on video of iPhone 12 Pro’s chassis shows a familiar design and LiDAR sensor

Apple AirTags design may have leaked before possible launch

Ming-Chi Kuo reveals important details about the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup

And just as we recorded Friday’s Pocketnow Daily where we talked about Apple, a hot leak of the iPhone 12 came out. EverythingApplePro, tweeted out a hands on video of the iPhone 12 Pro’s chassis. According to him this is the 6.1in Pro Model and the video shows the inside of the panel as well as the exterior. On it, we can see the flat sides, the new LiDAR sensor placement and possibly the connector for the 5G antenna if you look closely on the insides. We also got a new report from Ming Chi Kuo where he confirmed that the iPhone 12 Pro won’t bring a 120Hz display, as those will come until next year but, this year’s Pro models will bring a narrower notch. He also mentioned that the iPads we’re getting at this event will bring Touch ID on the power button to pave the way for the larger display. And, speaking of things we could get tomorrow, earlier today, Jon Prosser, released a video on Apple’s upcoming AirTags. This is a render created based on a real video of the actual tags according to their sources. They’ll apparently be slightly bigger than a bottle cap, and they’ll have a pretty clean design, kind of like the old battery slot cap for Magic Keyboards with a white top and the Apple logo on the inside. We’re not sure when we’re getting these AirTags but we could see them tomorrow, and we’re not expecting the iPhone 12 until October but hopefully we’ll see something tomorrow.

Story of the day:

Google schedules September 30 event to launch Pixel 5 and new smart devices

Speaking of events we’re getting soon, Google just sent out press invitations for the Pixel Event which will happen on September 30th. The teaser reads “Launch Night In” obviously alluding to the fact that we’re going to have to watch the event from home as it also says “your couch is the best seat in the house” but, it also teases some sort of improvements for Night Mode because, this is Google. They’re even teasing other products that we were expecting like Google’s Sabrina dongle which brings Android TV to the Chromecast’s form factor, some new smart speakers, and of course, we’re expecting to see the possible Google Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5S? There’s been a lot of confusion with the Pixel 5 because we keep hearing of more variants. The Pixel 5 will reportedly bring a similar design and footprint to the current 4a, with a dual camera at the back, a fingerprint sensor and a punch hole display. Some of the leaked specs include the Snapdragon 765G, a 6in OLED display running at 90Hz, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, no leaks on the price tag yet. The 5s will reportedly be the mmWave variant for this phone, with the regular one being sub-6GHz 5G. The 4a 5G will be the larger variant and will reportedly bring similar specs to the regular 5G but with the dual camera as well.

LG WING with Swivel display goes official

LG has unveiled its first Explorer Project device, the LG WING, which comes with a unique form factor. It is a dual-display device where one display swivels over the another. LG says users can “switch seamlessly between Basic Mode and Swivel Mode any time to enjoy an expanded and truly differentiated user experience.” In Swivel Mode, the entire front of the phone rotates clockwise 90 degrees, orienting the Main Screen in landscape mode to reveal a 3.9-inch second screen. A single application can be expanded to both screens or two applications can be displayed simultaneously, one on each display.

Watch media and simultaneously chat with someone in a different app.

Viewing video-sharing and streaming platforms in Swivel Mode allows users to interact with the second screen while content plays uninterrupted on the main screen. LG has collaborated with industry-leading platform partners. For instance, when viewing YouTube or Tubi on the preinstalled NAVER Whale browser, the video plays on the main screen while the second screen displays comments or the search bar. Moreover, the Multi App feature allows users to create shortcuts for pairs of apps they typically use together.

LG WING

The LG WING features a 6.8-inch P-OLED FullVision main screen display with 20.5:9 aspect ratio. The 3.9-inch second screen doubles as a grip lock. There’s also a Grip Lock mode, that uses the second screen to display information such as time and date and ignores accidental touches. In video platform apps optimized for its unique form factor, LG WING’s second screen acts as the media controller. When activated, a floating icon appears in the upper-right corner of the second screen, giving users the ability to change video and sound settings without having to pause the video or switch to another window.

While watching a video, playback and brightness controls can be moved to the secondary screen.

The LG WING is powered by Snapdragon 765G SoC. It sports a triple rear camera setup of 64MP OIS Wide + 12MP Ultra Wide Angle camera + 13MP Wide lens. There’s a 32MP pop-up selfie shooter. The Gimbal Motion Camera turns LG WING’s second screen into a convenient grip, providing the stability needed to capture clearer shots and smooth video footage in horizontal mode with one hand.

The camera controls can be moved to the secondary screen while capturing photos and videos.

“The hinge mechanism in LG WING has proven to be perfectly reliable even after 200,000 swivels,” says the company.

LG Wing’s leaked hands-on video finally shows how the rotating dual display works

Yesterday, LG confirmed that their “Explorer Project“, which is coming out on September 14th, will be called the LG Wing. And, we’ve seen other leaked videos of the phone like the ones on the car but now, we have an 8 second hands on of the device where we see the display rotating for the first time. On the video you can see the UI change as the person rotates the main display from its horizontal state to the vertical state and honestly it looks pretty smooth. This seems to be a glossy, white color variant which means that it could bring a similar design language to the Velvet. According to an ETNews report the shipment price for the Wing has been set at around $918 from KRW but after the value-added tax rate it shows it’s $1608. Both of these prices go right along with the leaks we got last week so we can expect the actual price to be somewhere around this.

Microsoft officially unveils Xbox Series S and confirms a sweet $299 asking price

A few months ago we covered the possibility of a more affordable and smaller alternative for the Xbox Series X, which would be dubbed the Series S. Well, that just became a reality. Microsoft officially unveiled this console online and it will bring a custom-made NVMe SSD with a 512GB capacity, up to 120fps at 1440p, DirectX ray-tracing, 4K media streaming and more, all while being 60% smaller than the Xbox Series X, meaning that this is the smallest Xbox ever. The teaser also claims that it already has 100 high quality titles that will be optimized for the next generation. According to a Windows Central report, the Series S will be released along with the Series X on November 10th and it will cost $299. Considering that the Series X might cost around $499, this looks like a pretty good alternative as, the PS5 will reportedly bring a hefty price tag as well.

Microsoft is working on a smaller Surface-branded laptop that might start at just $500

Sticking with Microsoft, we know that the Surface lineup is pretty much all 2-in-1 convertibles except for the Surface Laptop which has kind of a pricy entry level variant. Well, according to another Windows Central report, Microsoft is working on a more affordable Surface Laptop. The report claims that it’s codenamed “Sparti” and it will apparently bring a 12.5in display, a 10th Gen Intel Core i5, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. It would bring Windows 10 in S Mode and would start at around $500 or $600. This new Surface Laptop would be targeted at students and it would reportedly launch in October. Microsoft apparently wants to go after the Chromebook market with this one and it might just work out considering it will be an actual PC.

Android 11 released for Pixel smartphones via the stable channel. What’s new?

A couple of months ago I made a video on how Android 11 was making me love the Google Pixel 4 again. Well, Google just released the first stable build of Android 11 for all compatible phones, meaning Pixels. Most of the features that Android 11 brings were already present in the betas but just to refresh your memory, it focuses a lot on privacy like how you now get a dedicated notifications tab for conversations, app permissions reset after a while of you not using them, separation between work and personal files and more. Media controls have been revamped a long with Google Home controls, a new native screen recorder and more. You can check out my long term review of the Pixel 4 XL with Android 11 which will be right up here on the screen to check out other updates. So, if you have a Pixel 2 or newer you can download it already, we’ll keep you posted on when other devices get it.

Story of the day:

Apple schedules an event on September 15, Apple Watch Series 6 expected to debut

And yes, Marc Gurman’s leaks from yesterday were right! Apple just scheduled an event for September 15th at 10AM PST, where we’re expecting to get some new hardware. However, Marc claimed that this will be the “iPhone” September Event but it looks like that’s not what we should expect here. The press invitation has the caption “Time Flies” and with an art that looks like a looping armband, so yes this is hinting that we’ll be getting the Apple Watch Series 6. What’s weird is that the event is scheduled to happen for two hours, so we should naturally expect more hardware than just an Apple Watch. According to Bloomberg and other tipsters, we should also get a redesigned iPad Air with an edge-to-edge screen, possibly Apple’s over the ear headphones, and even a smaller HomePod. Other things that might make the cut but are unlikely at this event are the Apple Tags or AirTags and maybe even AirPower. This also means that the iPhone 12 Line will happen until October like we expected as, they’re just not ready, they reportedly entered mass production this week.

We have new leaked renders of the LG Wing

As we get closer to the LG Wing’s official launch, the device has received more attention. It has recently been caught in several hands-on videos, three to be a bit more specific, but this time we get new official-looking renders of the device thanks to well-known leaker Evan Blass.

We are less than a week away from the official launch of LG’s new twistable device. The LG Wing is scheduled to arrive on September 14, but we are still getting new leaks that let us see the device in beautiful new renders. These images show us the design of the device at both the front and back. We can see both displays, with the smaller 4-inch display placed at the bottom and the larger 6.8-inch display set horizontally on top.

Yes, we have seen several hands-on videos of the device, but none of them give us the details shown in these new renders. We also get to see that the device is coming in at least two colors since the renders show the back of the phone in white and black.

Let’s remember that LG has already teased its new ‘Explorer project”, which is both an initiative and a category and will include devices that deliver distinctive and yet unexplored usability experiences.” It seems that this device was designed to attend the “diverse usage needs of today’s smartphone customers.”

LG has also confirmed, via press release, that the upcoming device with a rotating screen will be officially known as the LG Wing. Now, we are just waiting for confirmation of the device’s internals. Rumors claim that the device will arrive with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 or 765G processor and a price tag that could very well fall around the $1,000 mark, or it may go all the way up to $1,600. Still, these are just rumors, so we only have to wait a bit longer to get this new phone’s official pricing.

LG Wing’s leaked hands-on video finally shows how the rotating dual display works

Earlier today, LG confirmed that its upcoming ‘Explorer Project’ smartphone will be called Wing. So far, we have seen the upcoming dual-display smartphone with a swiveling design in a couple of videos and a leaked render, but only with the two screens locked at a fixed angle. It was believed that the secondary screen would swivel out from behind, but we were yet to see that happen in action. That finally changes. A leaked hands-on video finally shows the LG Wing’s display rotating on camera. And it is not the secondary display that swings into action, but the primary display at the top.

The top full-screen panel is impressively thin, and appears to rotate all the way up to 90-degrees in a relatively smooth fashion. When rotated, the main display appears to lock itself horizontally at the top, making a ‘T’ shape with the secondary display that only occupies half the vertical space, while the remaining half hides the display rotating hardware. Of course, LG will give it a fancy name and go to great lengths explaining the engineering behind it, but at least now we know how it all works on the surface. And to be honest, it looks extremely cool.

LG’s Wing smartphone appears to have a Type-C port at the bottom sitting alongside the speaker. Also, we get a blink-and-you-miss-it glimpse of the rear panel’s curved slope, which appears to flaunt a glossy finish. It would actually be awesome if LG could give the Wing the same design treatment as the LG Velvet.

Additionally, as per an ETNews report, the shipment price of LG Wing has reportedly been set at KRW 1.09 million (~ $918), while the cost calculated after “value-added tax rate reflected in the factory price” (translated) comes down to KRW 1.91 million (~ $1608) – both of which fall in line with a previous leak. LG has promised to share more details about its upcoming smartphone on September 14.

LG WING confirmed to be the official name of the upcoming rotating smartphone

Over the weekend, LG has confirmed, via a press release, that the official name of is upcoming rotating smartphone will indeed be LG WING. It’s how the media has been referring to the device ever since the first reports popped up back in May, describing its T-shaped rotating build.

The phone will be part of LG’s Explorer Project, a “new mobile category aimed at discovering new ways to interact with mobile devices”.

As we reported at the beginning of the month, the LG WING will be unveiled on September 14; this has been now officially reconfirmed by the company in the aforementioned press release.

As far as the device is concerned, it brings a new approach to an older concept. While we all remember sliders like the BlackBerry Priv, the concept with most devices in this category was simple: slide the display up to reveal a physical keyboard.

With the LG WING, users will reportedly be able to tilt/slide the main display in order to reveal a secondary screen that will host the keyboard or other information depending on the usage scenario and the app being used.

LG has been experimenting with multiple displays for quite some time now. While the company seems to have settled for the Second Screen concept, a case you snap on to the phone that attaches an identical secondary display, it does indeed reveal the fact that, at least for now, LG is not planning on any “real” foldable.

However, the “twistable” could be innovative enough, and “cool” enough to make up for that approach. This innovative smartphone might, however, according to recent reports, be priced somewhere around the $1,000 threshold.

In addition to the image at the top, which is an old mock-up from spring, you can check out a leaked video showing off the phone in a navigation scenario. A second video shows off the same device, which will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

We’ll, of course, be covering the event and we’ll tell you all about the LG WING, so make sure to check back in on September 14 for our LG WING launch coverage.

Qualcomm Adaptive ANC offers enhanced comfort, sound quality for true wireless earbuds

Qualcomm will introduce 5G to its Snapdragon 4-Series in 2021

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G Compute Platform brings a plethora of new features

This morning Qualcomm made some very interesting announcements. First off they announced their new Bluetooth Audio SoC, the QCC514X which offers enhanced comfort, higher quality and adaptive ANC for TWS Earbuds. We also know that company’s goal is to bring 5G to everyone, so they announced that they will be bringing 5G to their Snapdragon 4 Series by 2021. So far, only the 6, 7 and 8 Series rock 5G, and by introducing it to the 4 it will allow them to take 5G capable smartphones to 35 new countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and more. Motorola, OPPO and Xiaomi have all committed to launch 5G smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 4 Series. Finally, they also showed the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 for 5G Computing. Gen 2 apparently brings a 50% improvement in system-wide performance and battery life against competing solutions. It supports both sub-6 and mmWave, along with Wi-Fi 6. We have a full list of specs and technical details in the links in the description but, it should make it to computers later this year.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite and S20 FE may launch soon

We’ve started covering rumors about the Galaxy S20 Rumors a while back. Then we thought it wouldn’t be a Lite variant and it would be dubbed the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition but, apparently these are two different phones. The S20 Lite has appeared on different and official Samsung support websites, like on the Gear 360 camera troubleshooting tutorial. On the other hand, the S20 FE has been certified by the Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Fi Alliance in three different versions, an LTE variant, and the other two were 5G variants, one supporting sub-6 and the other one with mmWave. We’ve been expecting the S20 FE to launch in October but, we’re not sure how Samsung might proceed if they do decide to launch the S20 Lite as well.

The unique LG Wing with rotating screen is coming on September 14

We knew that the amount of leaks we were getting for the LG Wing was kinda suspicious for a concept, so now we get some official press invitations from LG. Yesterday the company posted a teaser on YouTube to “Explore the Unexplored” so they’re dubbing this the LG Explorer project as it tackles uncharted territory in the industry. Apparently the company is partnering up with Rave, Ficto, Tubi, Naver and Qualcomm for this rotating device. We also have more details on it, it looks like it’ll feature a 6.8-inch primary display with a 4-inch secondary display with a 1:1 aspect ratio. It’ll reportedly be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G or the 768G and it will feature a 64MP camera. It’ll be announced on September 14th at 10AM ET on LG’s YouTube channel.

Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a have just passed through the FCC

We’re getting closer and closer to the leaked Pixel 5 launch date and, it looks like we’re actually getting there. A couple of days ago both, the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G went through the FCC hinting that the launch is close and revealing a lot of details. This certification revealed the model numbers for both the 4a 5G and the 5 in several variants. According to the report, the 4a 5G will reportedly bring the exact same plastic body from the regular 4a but with 5G connectivity and a larger display. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 765G, and it’ll pack a dual camera setup which will include a wide angle lens. The Pixel 5 will apparently come in two 5G flavors, the first one with sub-6 and the mmWave variant will reportedly be exclusive to Japan for some reason. It’s also expected to pack 8GB of RAM and a 4000 mAh battery. We should get these phones on September 30th and in October but, with Google you never know.

iPhone 12 Pro leaks reveal camera layout with LiDAR sensor and new color variant

Finally, let’s talk about iPhones as, we have some new developments. We have some new leaks from Twitter and a new report from Bloomberg. Starting off with the Twitter leaks, we have some new images from a tipster that show the rear glass panel for the iPhone 12 Pro showing off the new LiDAR sensor at the bottom which is actually smaller than we thought it would, it’s almost the same size as the True Tone flash which sits at the top. There’s also a new image that comes from Weibo that allegedly belongs to an iPhone 12 Pro Max case with the same camera array, including the extra slot for the LiDAR sensor. Moving on, a new report from Mark Gurman claims that Apple will be ditching the Midnight Green Color variant for a dark blue tint. It isn’t the first time that we’ve gotten leaks of a blue iPhone but these have been consistent for the iPhone 12, with renders going all the way back to January.

This new SoC brings a Krypto 470 CPU at up to 2.3GHz and an Adreno 618 GPU which according to them, offers 15% improved graphics over the 730G. Besides these performance improvements, it also allows for Qualcomm’s Elite Gaming for ultra-realistic gameplay in over a billion shades of color. It features the 4th Gen Qualcomm AI Engine and the Snapdragon X15 LTE modem. We have the full list of technical details and specs in the links below, and this new chip is expected to debut with the leaked POCO X3 which we covered last week.

The price of the new LG Wing may not be so compelling

We’ve been getting an interesting amount of leaks for the LG Wing, considering that it is still a concept. So far we’ve gotten two videos of this dual screen-rotating device fully working from Android Authority, and now we get a possible price tag. According to a South Korean publication, the Wing will cost $1600, making it the most expensive LG phone yet. However, an anonymous source talked to XDA Developers and claims that the phone could cost $1000 in the United States which might still be the most expensive LG phone. The source also confirmed that these videos from Android Authority are the real deal. The confusing part is that, there’s still no rumors of the phone entering production or even a possible time line for the launch date. We’ll keep you posted as, the leaks just keep increasing for it.

New leaks of AT&T’s Moto RAZR 2020 have emerged

Speaking of dual screens and foldables, we’re pretty much in September already which means we’re getting closer to the new Moto RAZR. Now we have some new leaks from Evan Blass for the AT&T variant. These are fully labeled pictures of the phone and they reveal more details like the 20MP selfie shooter and the 48MP main camera. You also get to see the new design elements like the outer display which is bigger now, the slimmer bezels on the front and the fingerprint sensor is now on the Moto logo at the back. We’re expecting this phone to be powered by the Snapdragon 765G, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage with a possible launch date on September 9th.

New leaks could give us our first look at the new OnePlus 8T

Believe it or not, we’re getting closer and closer to the OnePlus 8T’s usual launch time. Well, we have some sort of a first look from OnePlus from the guys over at Android Authority. This image belongs to the Android 11 Developer Preview Source Code and it allegedly belongs to the 8T. Now, we should take these with a grain of salt as it could be a simple place holder, but it kinda looks different enough from the 8 Pro. It shows a pretty similar design but with a different color scheme, at least when it comes to the wallpaper shown and it makes sense as this is a T model. We’re expecting this phone to pack a Snapdragon 865 Plus and other spec bumps. Since we got the 8 line in April, we should be getting these in early to mid Fall, so we’re getting close.

Story of the day:

12-inch MacBook to make a return with ARM processors

Apple’s upcoming 10.8-inch iPad appears in leaked schematics with an iPad Pro-like design

Next Apple event would present AirTags, Apple Watch Series 6, and iPhone 12 with LiDAR sensor?

Let’s talk about Apple’s convoluted roadmap as, we have a bunch of leaks from different sources so bear with me here. Let’s start off with Apple Silicon Macs as those are coming later when compared to Cupertino’s Fall Line. According to a new supply chain report from China, the 12-inch MacBook is making a comeback as an ARM-powered machine. The report mentions that we should expect it by the end of this year with Apple’s A14X chip built on TSMC’s 5nm process. This MacBook will apparently weigh less than 1KG and it will be able to reach 15-20hrs of battery life. Moving on to next year, another report claims that we should expect an Apple Silicon iMac in the second half of 2021 with a custom GPU codenamed “Lifuka”. This iMac will apparently offer better performance and more energy efficiency than Intel models. But, now let’s move on to the announcements that should happen in a couple of weeks. We have some leaked schematics of the 10.8-inch iPad from 91Mobiles and it looks like it will adopt the iPad Pro’s design. They bring the squared design, Face ID and a USB-C port. This iPad would be the successor to the current 10.2in iPad which costs $329 and could launch along with the iPhones. Finally, according to a new MacOtakara report, Apple will be hosting an event in the latter half of October to announce the iPhone 12, the Apple Watch Series 6 and the AirTags. These leaks contradict the previous information we got from Jon Prosser where we’d get the Watch and iPads through a silent release in September and then the iPhones in October.

The price of the new LG Wing may not be so compelling

We have been getting an interesting amount of leaks for the new LG Wing. The latest rumor suggests that this device won’t be as expensive as foldable smartphones, but that doesn’t mean that it will be cheap either.

The first report mentioning the new LG Wing’s possible price came from South Korean publication, Herald Corp. It claimed that the device would arrive with a $1,600 price tag, making this the most expensive LG phone ever. However, an anonymous source spoke to XDA-Developers, and now, it seems that this phone may arrive for $1,000 in the United States. The source also confirms that the recent videos leaked at Android Authority are legitimate. However, we are still waiting for rumors to suggest a possible launch date and the device’s internals.
