What does Microsoft killing the Lumia mean?

Microsoft killed the Lumia star. Ok, so it’s not as catchy as the song that tortured my college days working in a mall kiosk across from the GAP. But the fact remains that the once shining star that was Nokia’s Lumia lineup is likely about to fade from the night sky. At least, this is according to an anonymous (and let’s face it, aren’t they all?) source. You see, Microsoft isn’t just winding down production of the Lumia series of phones. It is ceasing sales of Lumias entirely. I mean how Microsoft will cope with the loss of this financial failure is beyond me. Who knows, the darn ...

Forget December, as Lumia 950 XL production may have ended already

The uncertainty around Microsoft’s troubled Lumia smartphone family, as well as the Windows Mobile ecosystem on the whole (or whatever’s left of it), deepens, with 550, 650, 950 and 950 XL stock reportedly on the verge of worldwide depletion, production likely halted, and upgrades nowhere on the horizon. That’s right, it ...

Motorola flat-out accuses Samsung of ‘stealing’ its ‘original’ Always On Display

Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery? Not according to the official Moto US Twitter account’s handlers, who use a different, much harsher word for it to begin with.Lenovo’s reformed, increasingly ambitious and competitive daughter company seems to believe Samsung didn’t imitate, get inspired by, or even copy a certain trendy software ...

Microsoft indirectly discloses latest quarterly Lumia sales numbers – 1.2 million

It certainly was both odd and ominous to see Microsoft tight-lipped about the box-office scores of its flagging Lumia roster for the April – June timeframe in an otherwise comprehensive full fiscal 2016 report. After all, in sickness and in health (mostly sickness recently), for better or worse (primarily worse), the Redmond-based tech giant always released those numbers, and so did Nokia before it. But it’s not like it went the whole nine yards to keep the latest Windows Phone decline under wraps either, with ...

Microsoft announces yet another round of phone-related layoffs, $950 million restructuring charge

Things have gone from bad to worse to near-cataclysmic for Microsoft’s mobile phone-designing and manufacturing business of late, with the $7 billion acquisition of Nokia’s entire consumer hardware expertise back in 2014 yielding massive financial losses rather than the expected gains.Windows Mobile is a lost cause, although Redmond insists it hasn’t altogether given up on

Microsoft sells off feature phone business, Nokia grants license to newly founded company

Instead of breathing fresh air into a slowly flagging family of mobile devices that was once synonymous with industry innovation and box-office success, Microsoft’s 2014-completed acquisition of Nokia’s phone business appears to have accelerated the downfall of Lumias and Windows Mobile.Meanwhile, Redmond didn’t even try to revive feature phones, accepting the market moved past the X lineup, Series 40 or Asha ...

Microsoft announces its budget-minded $139 Lumia 550

Microsoft’s event is still live, and the company has tried its best to keep it fast paced and passionate. Microsoft begins some minor internal mergers with its websites

Microsoft has been doing a ton of changes all around, from its approach towards competing platforms, to its internal strategy. One thing that hasn’t changed sadly, is how long the company takes to launch flagship Lumia products. October 6 is apparently the date for these to see the light of day, and aside from some leaks, we ...

Microsoft Lumia 640 XL review: the latest Windows Phone phablet

The Microsoft Lumia 640 XL is now available on AT&T in the States and we’ve got one of them to test out. As is the theme with Microsoft and their Windows Phones since shutting down Nokia, this is a budget friendly device that won’t let you show off any ground-breaking incredible new features like Nokia used to do with the likes of the Lumia 1020 or Lumia 1520 from 2013.  The Lumia 640 XL is, however, quite a nice phone especially if you’re into the giant-screen phablet style devices.  The Lumia 640 XL is only a bit smaller than the Lumia 1520 with its 5.7″ ...
