Samsung Galaxy A52 5G offers the luxury of a 120Hz screen on tight budget

Samsung’s new Galaxy A72 borrows flagship tricks for mid-range glory

Let’s move on to Samsung for the first time today as, the company just had their “Awesome Unpacked Event” earlier today where we got 2 new devices. Let’s start with the Galaxy A72 which brings a 6.7-inch FHD+ display running at 90Hz, it is powered by the Snapdragon 720G along with 6 or 8 gigs of RAM and up to 256 gigs of expandable storage. It also brings a 5,000 mAh battery, along with a quad camera system at the back which includes a 64MP primary shooter. Moving on to the Galaxy A52, aka the second highest selling phone of last year, this one brings a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Display at FHD+ and running at 120Hz. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G, along with up to 8 gigs of RAM and up to 256 gigs of storage. It comes in an LTE variant and a 5G variant which vary in specs of course. It also brings 4 cameras at the back with that same 64MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra wide, a 5MP depth sensor and a macro. The Galaxy A72 will cost you 449 Euros for the entry level variant and the A52 will set you back at 349 Euros for the 4G model or 429 Euros for the 5G variant.

OnePlus smartwatch won’t run Wear OS, and I’m excited about it!

OnePlus Watch leak tips a week’s battery in 20 minutes charge, 4GB storage and more

Moving on to OnePlus, the company already confirmed that we will be getting their first smartwatch with the OnePlus 9 Series on March 23rd but, we don’t have much information on the Watch just yet. Now, we have a new report from Pricebaba that claims that the Watch will bring a circular dial that could measure 46mm, it’ll come in 2 color variants being Black and Silver. It’ll also bring an IP68 rating, as well as 4GB of onboard storage. The leak also mentions that it’ll offer automatic workout detection, a swimming mode, sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, stress tracking and more. You can also expect a week of battery life with just 20 minutes of a charge thanks to Warp Charging. And this sounds to good to be true, but according to Pete Lau, it’s because they’re doing this. He wrote in a forum post that they developed the OS based on an RTOS and not WearOS, because they believe it provides a smooth and reliable experience while delivering great battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns people have when buying a smart watch. So yeah, this watch is actually sounding pretty good and we’re very close to this event so stay tuned.

iPad Pro refresh with a Mini-LED display slated to arrive in April: Report

Now, here’s a good twist, it looks like OnePlus is getting the 23rd all to themselves because, the Apple leaks we’re all wrong. See, we were expecting invites yesterday but, that didn’t happen. Well, now we have a new report from DigiTimes that claims that Apple won’t launch their new mini-LED 12.9-inch iPad Pro until at least the second quarter of the year.. Which begins on April 1st. Apparently this is because the supplier of mini-LED backlit panels has 50% of their production capacity for this tablet booked to begin in the second quarter of 2021. Early this morning we also got a new tweet from Jon Prosser where he claims that the event will now happen on April and that he will explain details on his show later.. But he will still be shaving his eyebrows. So yeah, this is the first time Apple will be hosting an event in April since their special event back in 2010 where they revealed iOS 4. Finally, just to jog your memory we are expecting these iPad Pros, AirTags, hopefully some AirPods and maybe even an Apple TV, let’s wait and see when it will actually happen.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 and Galaxy Z Flip successors will debut in Q3 2021: Report

Galaxy Note series isn’t dead, but don’t expect a new one this year

Finally, let’s move the spotlight on to Samsung and the mystery of the missing Galaxy Note. It’s already March and we have no codenames or any information on the 2021 Galaxy Note Series and I mean it makes some sense as Samsung just brought the S Pen to the Galaxy S and they’re reportedly working hard on their foldables. However, the company did say that we will still be getting a Galaxy Note but, not on the typical schedule. Well, at the latest Samsung shareholders meeting in Korea, Samsung’s CEO said “There is no new Galaxy Note this year” as translated by the machine. He continued on to say that “it is not that we will not release new products. The timing may vary, but next year we are preparing to continue to do so”. So, I guess this serves as some actual confirmation that Samsung will be taking a break from the Note this year, as leaks claim that they are working on bringing stylus support to the Galaxy Z Fold line, which I believe should turn into the Galaxy Note eventually. And if you’re wondering how Samsung’s launch schedule is looking like, a new report from Reuters claims that Sammy will be launching the Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 2 in Q3 along with some Wear OS watches, and the Galaxy S21 FE in Q4.

Samsung Galaxy S21 is selling for $75; more phones are also on sale

Apple’s latest M1 MacBooks, iPad Pros and more devices are on sale

The official news today begin with deals, and yes, we know Valentine’s Day deals are over but, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have some new ones for you. Starting with Samsung, the Galaxy S21 is still available for just $99 if you get it Unlocked with a trade-in along with the 50 dollars in instant credit for accessories. The S21+ is also available for as low as 215 dollars with an extra 75 dollars in credit, and the S21 Ultra is now going for 499 dollars with 100 dollars in instant credit. Moving on, if you’re looking for M1 MacBooks, you’ve come to the right place. The 13in MacBook Pro is currently 100 dollars off, leaving the entry level model for 1199 dollars shipped. The MacBook Air is also available for 60 dollars off if you go for 512GB of storage, leaving that at 1189 dollars. The latest 11in iPad Pro is also 50 dollars off, leaving it at 749 shipped. Finally, the Google Pixel 4 is still 250 dollars off from its original price, leaving it at 549 dollars shipped. We have more deals on Razer laptops, Apple Watches, Samsung Watches and more in the link in the description.

Nothing acquires Essential

Let’s move on to Carl Pei and Nothing as, which clearly does not stand for the amount of cash they hold, as there’s somewhat of a major surprise to discuss here. Just as a recap, back in December the company received $7M in funding and a couple of weeks ago, Carl Pei announced that his new company would be called “Nothing” and talked a little bit about their philosophy. Now, a new report from 9to5Google shows some resent filings at the UK Intellectual Property Office that reveal that Andy Rubin has sold his Essential Brand to Carl Pei’s Nothing Technologies Limited. The application was actually made back in November, with the process being completed on January 6th. Therefore, the trademarks, logo and the Essential Brand is now part of Nothing. We Essentially have Nothing here.. Get it? So far we still have no concrete information on what Nothing is planning on releasing with rumors hinting to wireless earbuds and even smart home technology but, the recent announcements claimed that we should expect it soon. If you think about it, they now have access to Ambient OS, and numerous patents Essential was working on so, let’s see what and when we get it.

HUAWEI P50 series rumored to launch next month with three models in tow

Let’s talk about Huawei for a second as, we’re currently due for a refresh of the company’s P Series. And of course, we know that they’re going through a lot of uncertainty at the moment as, even their SoC production is limited due to the restrictions. However, we have a new leak from a tipster on Twitter that claims that, the Huawei P50 Series is ready for mass production, as the final design is locked. The tweet claims that we’ll be getting 3 models like we did last year with the P50, P50 Pro and P50 Pro+, all with a new design. Finally he claims that the Selling Points here will be the screen quality, some new ultra sensing camera system and the gaming capabilities. Now, according to another tipster, the P50 Series will go official somewhere around March 26th to March 28th. Last year we got this phone in April, but without Google Play services, who knows how this launch will go once again.

Apple may be planning to give stylus support to its first foldable iPhone

Finally, for the hottest news today let’s talk Apple and their upcoming launches. And I know, it’s kind of early for the hottest news but it’s because we’ll be splitting it into 2 segments. Let’s start with the foldable iPhone as, we’ve been hearing a ton of feasible rumors lately. According to some research from a firm called Equal Ocean, the foldable iPhone will arrive with Apple Pencil support, though even if it says current models, we’re not sure if it’s Pencil 1 or 2. They also predict that it will arrive with the clamshell design like Prosser mentioned last week and it will feature a foldable OLED display between 7.3 and 7.6 inches. If you remember what we covered last week, Prosser claims that this foldable iPhone will come with several colorful and fun colorways, to market it to a younger audience. And guys we know, rumors for foldable iPhones have been going on for years now but, it looks like we’re finally getting somewhere with dates pointing on to 2023 or a little bit later. Let’s see where Samsung is by then with the Z Flip as well as by then it’ll be a pretty mature lineup.

Story of the day:

iPhone 13 could finally get an always on display and other great features

Finally, again, for the second hottest news today, let’s talk iPhone 12s.. Yes, make peace with the name, but it doesn’t sound like if this lineup will be bad at all. So far we’ve been hearing very consistent rumors that this will be an S year with the same camera design but with improved internals, a shorter notch, all paired with better internals. Now, we have a new report from Everything Apple Pro where he gives us more information on what to expect. First off he claims that the matte back of the phone will be getting refined, meaning the Pro models, saying they’ll have a slightly more grippy texturized back. This should make them more comfortable, kind of like the soft matte you get on the Pixel Series. Moving on to the front, he claims that we will finally be getting an always-on display thanks to the implementation of an LTPO panel, which also allows for variable 120hz. The Always-On Display will apparently have minimal customizability, kind of like a toned down lock screen. We even hear of an optical fingerprint scanner on the display instead of ultrasonic to keep the cost down, with the power button option maybe making it to a refresh of the SE. Finally, the video also mentions that we’ll be getting an improved camera with a better ultra wide lens, features like Portrait Video and more.

Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 2 and more devices are on sale

Apple’s latest M1 13-inch MacBook Pro, LG monitors are on sale today

OnePlus 8, the Pixel 4 and more Android phones are also on sale today

And what that means is that we have more Valentine’s Day deals for you because you should take advantage of them, with or without a partner. Starting with Samsung, the Galaxy S21 is still available for just $99 if you get it Unlocked with a trade-in and you also get $50 off instant credit for accessories. The S21+ is also available for as low as $199 with an extra $75 in credit, and the S21 Ultra is still going for $399 with $100 in instant credit. And by the way, don’t forget that SUPCASE is still our favorite choice for device protection. Use promo code 10POCKETNOW on Amazon to get 10% off the Award Winning UB Pro, or use promo code POCKETNOW15 on SUPCASE.com for a 15% discount as well. Moving on to the M1 MacBook Pro, it is currently available for $100 off on both Amazon and B&H, leaving the entry level model for $1200 shipped. OnePlus also has the regular 8 for $100 off, meaning it starts at $699 for both color variants. The T-Mobile variant of the 7T is also available for $200 off, leaving that at $399. Finally, if you’re looking for a Google Pixel, the Pixel 4 is $250 off its original price tag, leaving the entry level variant for $549. And guys, we have more deals on LG monitors which are some of my favorites, Dell Laptops, other Pixels and more in the links in the description.

TikTok sale to Walmart and Oracle shelved

Let’s move the spotlight on to TikTok which, had a very interesting end to their 2020. If you remember, back in September, the company reached a deal with Oracle and Walmart, to avoid the US ban that was being imposed on them. The deal was approved by the administration but, when the sale deadline came on December 4th, the government gave them no response so the deal was left off in kind of a limbo. Now, it looks like the new President of the US has different plans. According to the Wall Street Journal, TikTok’s deal with Oracle and Walmart has been put on hold “indefinitely”. Apparently the new President is reviewing the past efforts which were based on handling security risks from Chinese tech companies. Now, the officials haven’t ruled out anything just yet but it looks like the sale might not happen at all. However, the new administration might have to make a decision pretty soon as, they are supposed to deliver a formal response before February 18th as part of TikTok’s lawsuit. We’ll see how this evolves next week as, we know that they might end up selling or, simply making changes to the app and the algorithm it uses to recommend you videos as, that wouldn’t be sold.

First signs of a Samsung Galaxy S21 FE aka Fan Edition have emerged

Moving on back to Samsung, a couple of weeks ago we covered how the company might already be working on the S21 FE but, that was kind of a reach and most likely just an LTE variant of the S21. However, we have a new report from SamMobile, showing off the model number of a new Samsung device which reportedly belongs to the S21 Fan Edition. Now, the report mentions that Samsung hasn’t launched LTE variants of their flagships just yet, so they’re assuming that they’re only trying to streamline things by bringing this model number of the Galaxy S21 FE in line with the rest of the Galaxy S21 models, basically to throw us off. Now, it is pretty early in the year when compared to when we got the S20 FE, but we are expecting the specs on this phone to include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870, a similar camera to the Galaxy S21 Trio, 5G and of course, a high refresh rate AMOLED display. The report also mentions that Samsung might go the same route by bringing a wide array of bright color options, to market it in the same way they did last fall. So yeah, let’s hope we get this phone somewhat soon as the S20 FE was a great pick last year.

This is what we could expect from Apple’s new mixed reality headset

Let’s move on to Cupertino for the rest of the show, beginning with their upcoming Mixed Reality headset as, we’ve had a ton of leaks in the past 2 weeks. Now, we have some new patents for this headset which were made public yesterday. This headset is listed as a “Head-Mounted Display Unit with Adaptable Facial Interface” and it explains how the design elements can prevent the headset from moving around when the person moves while providing a comfortable fit. Now, there’s a ton of technical jargon here so, apparently it’ll feature at least one eye tracking camera, an illumination source that emits infrared light to the user’s eyes, and a diffraction grating located in the eye pieces. Other details mention over a dozen cameras, to help achieve the eye tracking, as well as the 8K displays, making everything look as good as possible. Another image on the patents show that this might work in a Tony Stark kind of way where, it will display a 3D text generation and editing GUI in a virtual spaces, which includes a virtual screen for you to enter or edit text in documents via a keypad from the input device. Apparently the text document or area can be placed and moved to various depths in your 3D virtual space. Very Michael Fisher Iron Man if you ask me. We should expect this headset as soon as next year and priced at $3000 to compete with Microsoft’s solution… which sounds all enterprise.

Story of the day:

Apple’s next-gen iPad Pro and AirTags object tracker rumored to arrive next month

Finally, for the hottest news today, let’s talk Apple leaks as, we’re due some products. Earlier today Jon Prosser went on an answering and tweeting spree where he gave us some new information on when we should expect some things. First off, let’s get iPhone 13 out of the way as, someone asked him if Touch ID was still coming to iPhones this year, and Prosser simply replied “Yup”. Now, moving on to other products and their launch dates, he tweeted out that AirTags, which have been ready for months now, are still slated to launch in March. Of course this isn’t set in stone but, he claims that his sources haven’t mentioned any further delays this time. Meaning it should finally be a done deal. Now, speaking of March, someone also asked him about a new iPad Pro with Prosser replying that we should also expect it in March as far as he knows. Now, to expand on these products, we’re expecting the AirTags to be Tile-like tackers that will help you keep track of your belongings. And yes, you’ll most likely have to attach them to a third party accessory to carry it around. When it comes to the iPad, we’re expecting a similar design to the current iPad Pro with the dual camera at the back, the boxy design, Face ID and we really hope this is the debut of mini-LED displays. Finally, for iPhone 13, we’re expecting a shorter notch, Touch ID and upgraded cameras for all 4 models this year.

Apple M1 MacBook Pro 2 Months Later – ALMOST Living The Dream!

Anton D. Nagy contributed to this post.

The day was August 1st, 2011… Well, earlier actually. More like 2009. But that’s a story for another video. 2011 is actually my first full day on Pocketnow, and that 13-inch MacBook Pro behind me was what started it all.

Apple’s New MacBook video really sold me on it. You gotta understand that at the time, there were no laptops with multi-touch trackpads, aluminum unibody housings, back-lit keyboards, or LED backlights. This Mac was only one of few, and the only one I could afford.

At the time we were already doing video, and iMovie was fine at first. The problem is when we came up with the idea of the Pocketnow Daily and decided to do multi-layered content. My first ever 3-minute project took one and a half hours to render and export. Nope, I’m not exaggerating. After hours of editing was done, renders took hours on Final Cut 7.

But see, this has been the paradigm of computing for decades. If you want more power to export a video in minutes, portability doesn’t help. You either got a powerful desktop or spent thousands of dollars on a large and heavy laptop. The maxed-out 16-inch MacBook Pro I bought back in September was $4,700, and even with 64 gigs of RAM, a powerful GPU, and fan noise like a jet engine, you make peace with some compromise in performance and battery life.

For years, I’ve dreamed of an ultra-portable laptop like my first Mac, but that could handle all my tasks, last all day on a charge, and not cost an arm and a leg. I knew Apple Silicon was coming, but like every marketing pitch, it sounded too good to be true. Apple has never gotten first-generation products right. I still bought the cheapest models, just out of curiosity, cause I figured they were still not going to fulfill my dream, and well, I was kind of wrong.

Foreword

This is the M1 13-inch MacBook Pro, what Apple calls the future of the Mac, which is actually the least pretentious thing they’ve ever said about a product. After two months of using it, I’m gonna actually go as far as to say it doesn’t do this computer enough justice.

I’m not gonna bore you with a review full of benchmarks and numbers, the Internet is full of that by people that are actually better at it than I am. I’d even say those numbers don’t really explain why this chip changes everything.

M1 MacBook Pro

So, simple example. In the past, if you wanted to edit a video smoothly, the base 13-inch MacBook Pro didn’t cut it. I mean, it could, but trust me, I tried and fried a $3,000 maxed out Intel version 2 years ago. As it was, even if you had a quad-core CPU and 32 Gigs of RAM, integrated graphics was just not enough. You were forced to go 16-inches just for the extra discrete graphics.

What’s mind-boggling about the M1, is that even this MacBook Pro is overkill. I actually started the testing with the Air, and it turned out to be so good, that a week after testing the cheapest $999 base model, it has now replaced Diego’s old $3,000 15-inch MacBook Pro to edit the Pocketnow Daily. I ended up keeping the Pro because I do videos in 4K, expecting that I’d need the fan cooling for sustained loads, and two months later, I’ve only heard it spin once during a software update.

Like how can this be? How is it that Apple is willing to kill its own, more expensive computers with these little entry-level machines? The only logical explanation that I have is scale. The more similar the chip is to an iPhone, the more they can negotiate volume and reduce the cost per chip all around. I used to work in supply, so I understand this really well. The less the cost per component, the more the profit. Think about it: How many more MacBook Airs can Apple sell at less than a grand, versus trying to sell maxed-out 16-inch MacBook Pros? There’s just more profit in scale. And Apple has already tried this before with the iPad. How many times have you seen them trying to sell you that an iPad as a computer? So, if that didn’t work, why not turn things around and optimize the software in a way to make the computer run on iPad guts?

M1 MacBook Pro

So, if you’ve joined me in dreaming about one affordable computer that can behave like an iPad in lasting all day on a charge, this is it. My battery anxiety issues were addressed. I’ve been able to edit entire videos on flights, render them in just minutes, and have enough power for the rest of the day. Sure my 16-inch MacBook Pro can export videos faster, but to give you some perspective, just around 2 minutes faster. Yes, 2. In the past, it would be a difference of about 20 and don’t even dream about the 16-inch letting you edit a video on a charge. It makes no common sense for anyone today to want to spend $3,500 more, just to win 2 minutes on an export on a dead battery.

All this being said, yes there is a catch. For you to achieve this ideal, you kinda have to be sold on Apple software. See macOS Big Sur is Apple’s full return to ARM ever since they abandoned PowerPC chips 15 years ago for Intel. You could say Cupertino never stopped living a double life since that foundation is how iPhones and iPads ran a variation of OS X in the early days. What’s genius is that Apple has made this transition almost seamless through Rosetta 2. Apps just run, and that includes non-apple apps, but to explain the difference, think of it this way: If your app is already optimized for Apple Silicon, you’ll get all the performance and battery life. If it’s not, it’ll most likely run just as well or take an extra second to launch, but then your battery will behave like you were using any other Mac, which is still fine. In two months I have never seen this computer hang, drop frames, or bore me with beach balls. And this is with only the base 8 gigs of RAM. For those interested in seeing performance with 16 Gigs, I’ll link to my buddy David Cogen for his deep dive.

The not so good

Now, you know me, I make reviews, not love letters, and this computer is far from perfect. I think the reason why Apple has not done this launch enough justice starts in the visuals. The price we had to pay for this first-generation product is that it’s kind of boring. This design is five years old, with just a few minor improvements that are not even new. If you place it next to any other MacBook Pro you won’t be able to tell a difference. Same machined aluminum unibody, with the large trackpad, the improved scissor switches with Touch ID, and the touch bar that just won’t die. Over time I’ve learned to stick to silver instead of space gray since it ages better, but it won’t be free from dents if you hit other metals.

M1 MacBook Pro

Now, all that aside, my biggest problem with this M1 MacBook Pro, is that the one thing Pros need most is not addressed: and that’s Ports. Seriously, not sure what engineer thought that a Pro can survive with just two USB-C ports, out of which you’ll need one for charging every now and then. Sure, I appreciate the portability when I’m on the go, but when I’m at the studio or at home, I need my monitor and peripherals. Sadly, what most people don’t know is that dongles don’t really solve all the problems. You’ll find a ton with HDMI out for example, but most are capped at 4K at 30hz.

Still, for those asking why, even with its flaws, I always come back to using a Mac, it really has a lot to do with the quality of their panels for the price. This 13.3-inch Retina Display continues to be my favorite for color accuracy and its support for the P3 color gamut. Viewing angles are top-notch and it does get pretty bright in direct sunlight. Sadly yeah, it’s also kinda boring. I won’t blame you for thinking the bezels are a real waste of space with what Dell and Huawei have been doing for years. After using 15 and 16-inch models for years, I agree, this screen is just as crammed as the storage options you get. If you’re a creative, that’s the one upgrade I would recommend, as you can’t upgrade later.

Maybe the only portion of overhyped marketing is the whole idea of running iPad apps. You can, but the navigation is funky, and if there’s a more expensive Mac app, you better believe the iPad version won’t be in the store.

Conclusion

To conclude, what can I say? I mean, I’ve been living a dream for the past two months. You can call it marketing all you want, but I don’t think this is just the future of the Mac. Apple has almost re-invented laptops as we know it. This seriously has changed the rules of how we judge computers so much, that it would be incorrect to compare this to anything. Be an Apple hater all you want, but I challenge you to give me a more powerful and complete creative tool for just $1,299, or even $999 with the MacBook Air.

M1 MacBook Pro

After 10 years of iPad, Apple finally achieved a paradigm shift, but on the Mac. This is not something that happened overnight, Apple Silicon began with the A4 on the first iPad in 2010. The result is that we finally have almost all the benefits of an iPad but on a real computer.

Really the only reason why this is not replacing my 16-inch MacBook Pro just yet is because certain of my graphics plugins are still not yet compatible with the M1, but that’s been changing quickly. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to wait and see what Apple has next, but if you’re in the market for the best laptop I can recommend right now, this M1 MacBook Pro is a pretty complete package.

Moving on to some Apple deals, the Apple Watch Series 6 is available for $40 off on Amazon, leaving the 44mm, GPS variant for $409. The Series 5 is also on sale, with the Gold variant being a crazy $300 basically leaving at the regular price for the other variants at $449. Finally, the Google Pixel 4a 5G is still $40 off, leaving the entry level variant for $459 shipped. We have more deals on headphones, Samsung smartwatches and more.

iOS 14.4 arrives with a fix for security bugs that may have been actively exploited

Now let’s continue with official news, but let’s switch gears into Apple, as I don’t know about you but my Apple Watch was acting funky in calorie counting, so I was waiting for an update. Yesterday, the company released iOS 14.4, iPadOS 14.4 and watchOS 7.3, which I highly recommend you download. See, iOS 14.4 includes improvements like, smaller QR codes being recognized by the camera, the option to classify your Bluetooth devices in Settings for the phone to correctly identify headphones or another devices. Apple is also now warning you, that with iOS 14.4 your iPhone can recognize if the camera on it had a third party repair for the iPhone 12 Series, which is handy if you buy second hand I guess. iOS 14.4 also brings a ton of bug fixes, like the artifacts that appear in HDR photos in the 12 Pro, some widgets that wouldn’t show your activity data, and delayed typing in the keyboard. Probably one of the biggest changes is with the HomePod mini as Apple is now introducing the functionality of the U1 Ultra Wideband chip for the iPhone 11 and 12 Series. This improves the handoff feature, as well as visual, audible and haptic effects while doing so. watchOS 7.3 that brings some new Unity faces, ECG support for more countries, enhancements to Fitness+, but what I really cared about was the bug fixes. So yeah, make sure to download it if you’re having issues with some bugs, not so much if you have a third party camera. And we also have a full list of the updates in the links below.

Carl Pei is now the CEO and co-founder of Nothing

Now let’s move on to Nothing, and no this is not one of Diego’s bad jokes. I guess Carl Pei decided that the best way to name his new company is to call it Nothing. A few months ago he made headlines after leaving OnePlus to start his own venture and now, he’s announcing his new company, “Nothing”. This comes shortly after the $7M he got in financing was announced back in December with funding from his friends like Kevin Lin and even Casey Neistat. Carl issued out a statement saying, “it’s been a while since anything interesting has happened in tech. It’s time for a breeze of fresh change”. He claims that Nothing’s mission is to “remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future. He believes that the best technology is beautiful and intuitive to use, and once it is sufficiently advanced, it should fade into the background, and feel like “nothing”. The company will be releasing their first products in the first half of this year but, we have no information on what kind of products or how many we should expect. We don’t even know what field they’re going into but, we really do hope this is not another “Essential” case as, we all know how that went down. Let us know if you like the name Nothing, cause I understand the idea, but I debate the negative nature of the name, though hey, he’s someone I admire as a marketing genius so I’m excited.

More OnePlus 9 images surface online

And yes, we’re getting closer to the OnePlus 9 Series as 2021 is kind of the year of earlier releases like we saw with the S21. A couple of weeks ago we got some high definition renders of the phone from Ben Geskin and now we get to see the real deal. This is apparently the OnePlus 9 Pro and these pictures were taken somewhere in the Chinese subway. From the back we get to see the new camera module which brings 2 large sensors for the 48MP primary, the wide angle and of course, a smaller lens for the macro. This looks like a silver color variant with the OnePlus Logo in the center as you could expect. From the front, remember this is the Pro so it is rocking a curved display with very small bezels and that punch hole looks so small it kind of looks photoshopped. On the display you also get to see the specs, like the Snapdragon 888, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. We’re also expecting this phone to bring a 32MP selfie shooter, a 4500 mAh battery with 40W wireless charging. We’re expecting this phone along with the OnePlus 9 and the 9 Lite some time in March, along with maybe the OnePlus Watch which was recently certified.

Story of the day:

AirPods Pro 2 rumor again points to 1H 2021 launch

iPhone 13 series could support faster Wi-Fi 6E

Spigen’s AirTags case listed online, hints at imminent debut of Apple’s object tracker

And finally, for the hottest news today, let’s move back on to Apple but for 3 different reports of things we should expect this year, so bear with me. Let’s start with the next generation AirPods Pro which should be launched very soon. According to a new report from DigiTimes, a company called Winbond is expected to be one of the suppliers for the next generation AirPods Pro which are “slated for a launch later in the first half of the year”. And actually, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard this as a previous report claimed that we should get these in April with the iPhone SE+… I know, you heard that right, SE+. Moving on to another unreleased wearable, let’s talk AirTags. We have some new, high resolution images of another leather keychain carrier for the AirTags from a company called Cyrill which is actually a sub-brand for Spigen. The keychain is listed at $20 along with its features like being wireless charging compatible. The thing about is, this keychain is listed for “Late October” but these have been delayed so much, this could probably be late October for 2020 so, we’ll see. Finally, let’s talk iPhone 13 as, a new report from a Barclays Analyst claims that the iPhone 13 Series will bring Wi-Fi 6E amplifiers with suppliers like Broadcom benefiting from Apple and Samsung adopting the technology. Wi-Fi 6E is the new technology which offers higher performance, lower latency and faster data rates at up to 6GHz.. You know, stuff the Galaxy S21 Ultra has. We’ll see what else we get as, is it just me or are the iPhone leaks getting kinda slow?
