OnePlus 8 series is getting massive discounts, Apple Watch and other accessories are also on sale

Moto RAZR 5G is $400 off, Sony phones and more devices are on sale

The official news today begin with deals. I find it funny that Apple would never give out deals for their products on their website, but that isn’t stopping Amazon. They currently have M1 MacBook Pro that I’m using for 100 dollars off, leaving the entry level variant for 1200 bucks shipped. The Moto RAZR 5G is also 400 dollars off, leaving it at 1000 bucks… and I know, for that price I want it too, but you better not like photos to justify the purchase. Moving on to Best Buy for a second, the Apple Watch Series 6 Nike Edition is currently 50 bucks off, leaving it at 379 but, you can also get a 100 dollar discount on the Series 5, leaving that one for 299. Samsung’s Spring Event is still going on, where you can get the Galaxy S21 for 100 bucks, the S21+ for 300, or the Ultra for 500 if you have an eligible device for trade-in. We also have deals for Jabra earbuds, which for those asking, are my favorites for running, along with more deals on OnePlus devices and other products in the links in the description.

Google prepping affordable ‘Pixel Buds A’ whose details just got leaked

Since we already began sort of talking wearables, let’s shift the spotlight on to Google and what the company plans to do here. It’s been almost a year since Google released the true wireless Pixel Buds and it looks like they want to refresh them in a more affordable way. According to a new report from 9to5Google these will be called the Pixel Buds A, you know like the Pixel 4a. They will apparently have the same design to the Pixel Buds but with a few colorway tweaks. When it comes to the features, they’ll offer support for touch controls for you to answer calls, of course control music playback and summon the Google assistant but, it is still unclear as to what corners Google will be cutting in order to make these cheaper. Finally, the report mentions that we could expect these some time around June or earlier so, let’s see but, with Google you never know.

OnePlus reveals why its first smartwatch doesn’t run Wear OS, and it’s no surprise

Now let’s talk about another wearable that decided to ditch Google, for all the right reasons. OnePlus finally launched their first smartwatch last week and we’re still waiting on it but, there’s a ton of people asking over the fact that it doesn’t run WearOS. Well, the company’s Product Manager just wrote in an official forum that the fact that they chose their RTOS system over WearOS is because of the ability to offer better and longer battery life to their users which is totally understandable. They also note that RTOS allows them to use what they call “high frame rate debugging experience, which allowed them to raise the display’s capacity to 50Hz, giving you a smoother experience. So yeah, in case you missed it this new Watch features a 1.39-inch AMOLED display along with a 402 mAh battery that lasts up to 14 days with regular usage, or 5 days when sleep and blood oxygen is measured. And sure, I know some of you are concerned about third party apps, but let’s be serious, how many of you actually use more than one app on WearOS? They’re mostly trash.

Apple’s Mixed Reality headset might be unveiled much sooner than expected

Moving on, let’s talk about Apple’s Mixed Reality headset. At first I felt there were just too many rumors for how far away we are from a possible launch, but now things start making sense. Even with all the rumors of 8k displays and eye-tracking technology, that possible launch in 2022 made it sound like vapor wear. Well, now we have a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman that claims that “we could expect it sometime in the next several months, with this being their first major ‘new’ device since 2015”. Apparently it won’t happen at WWDC as Cupertino wants to make such announcement with employees, partners, and the media being present in the room and WWDC is set as an online event. However, they promised some insight on their platforms and they could introduce what they’ve been doing with AR and VR. So far we’ve heard from sources like Ming Chi Kuo that this headset could weigh around 150 grams, it’ll bring around 15 camera modules, a mesh headband and everything else we’ve already heard, so we’ll see.

Story of the day:

iPhone 13 Pro Max will stand out with its upgraded wide angle camera: Kuo

And Finally, for the hottest news today,.. NO we won’t be talking about that cheese grater iPhone.. Yes, we saw the patents, but come on.. I doubt that’ll happen, or at least not any time soon. Let’s focus on what we should expect this year with a new report from Ming Chi Kuo on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, or 12s, or whatever. Up until now, all of the reports we’ve been getting claim that the smaller iPhone 13 Pro will bring the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s camera along with software and hardware improvements like the 7 element lenses so, it left us wondering what upgrades the 13 Pro Max would be getting. According to Kuo’s latest report, the iPhone 13 Pro Max will make an interesting jump to a brighter and faster f/1.5 aperture on the main sensor, and this will differentiate it as it seems the rest of the 13 series will stick to an f/1.6 aperture on the primary camera. The thing is, I’m not sure if it’ll translate into better photos, because as it stands, the 12 Pro Max just takes photos slightly faster, and not really better. If anything aperture that sharp makes closeups a problem. Now as for quality, Kuo also mentions that all models will bring that 7P lens which improves light transmission rate, that can translate to better image quality. The shipment for these lenses is expected to begin in Q2 of 2021 so, some time soon. Other than this we’ve heard that most of the camera upgrades will include better wide angles and telephotos as well as your typical software upgrades.

We have a ton of more deals on Sony Earbuds and Headphones, Pixel smartphones, more Samsung phones and more in the links in the description.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 leak tips AMD and Intel CPUs with April launch window

Oh boy we have a ton of leaks today for you guys so, let’s start with Microsoft as it looks like they’re planning to update the Surface Laptop line up.. Like finally. We have a new report from WinFuture that claims that the Surface Laptop 4 will come in both Intel and AMD flavors, also finally. The design language will apparently remain the same with a “sleek metallic build in a variety of colors to choose from”. When it comes to the internals, you can choose between Intel’s 11th Gen or AMD 4000 CPUs which are actually from last generation.. The AMD variants will come with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. When it comes to Intel you can actually go up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD. According to the report, the Intel model should get you Iris Plus 950 integrated Graphics, while AMDs will of course ship with Radeon Vega graphics. Finally, the Surface Laptop 4 will reportedly come in 13.5 and 15 inch sizes, with a Surface Connect port, a single USB-C and a single USB-A port. Sadly, we don’t have any information on price tags but, we could expect these some time in April.

Google Pixel 5a is reportedly launching on June 11

Alright, let’s move the spotlight on to Pixels which are finally starting to get some traction. Last week we covered a new report from Jon Prosser where he said we should expect new Pixel Buds in mid-April and a new phone on June 11th but, he didn’t specify the phone. Well, earlier this morning he updated that report saying that his source has confirmed that the Pixel we’re getting this June is the 5a. On that video we speculated how it was most likely the 5a as, it recently got leaked by OnLeaks. Going by those leaks we should expect a 6.4-inch OLED display at FHD+, 5G, dual cameras at the back with a 12MP primary and a 16MP ultra wide, same punch hole, same fingerprint scanner at the back and the headphone jack is still there. So, again, it looks like Google wants to refresh the Pixel 4a 5G, with a new processor and updated internals, and by the looks of it they’re getting rid of the smaller “a” phone since their flagship is now a smaller phone. So yes, we should be getting more information soon on things like the processor, color variants and more so, stay tuned.

Yes, OnePlus 9 will come with a charger. Alas, that’s a thing we worry about now!

OnePlus 9 Pro concept poses for camera rocking the classic sandstone finish

Speaking of things we should be getting soon, let’s talk about the OnePlus 9 which is pretty much a week away. Yesterday we got the official launch date which is happening on March 23rd as well as a first glance at their Hasselblad partnership. Late last week, Tech Droider posted some pictures of a OnePlus 9 Pro concept which was made based on all of the leaks we’ve got. Probably the hottest thing here is that he claims that the Sandstone finish is coming back to the 9 Pro, yaaaayyy… and on this concept we can see a great amount of detail on the new camera module. This camera module reportedly consists of a 48MP primary, a 50MP, an 8MP and a 2MP, cause someone in that engineering department really loves those macro lenses.. And just that guy. But alright, moving on from the concept and to official details, a fan asked on a OnePlus forum if the 9 Series would come with a charger in the box.. You know because we have to worry about that now… To that, Pete Lau responded not to worry about it, the OnePlus 9 Series does bring one. So yeah, we’ll keep you posted on any other OnePlus 9 updates as we just keep getting closer, and we hope the charger thing is not just a this is the last year thing.

Story of the day:

It will take two more years for iPhones to bring a ‘Persicope’ Telephoto lens

And finally, for the hottest news today, it looks like Ming Chi Kuo is the new king of March Madness, cause he’s taking his report as seriously as we like. On his latest report he details the path for the next 3 iPhones and their camera modules where, he claims that Cupertino will introduce a periscope telephoto lens, but not this year. Actually, maybe not even next year as the report claims the 2023 iPhones. Previous reports from Kuo claimed that we should expect these in 2022 but, it looks like that won’t be the case. Speaking on that “path for the next 3 iPhones” he claims that the 2021 iPhones will feature an upgrade telephoto lens maybe upgrading to a 6-element lens from the current 5. When it comes to 2022 we should also expect further camera improvements that will also focus on the telephoto, upgrading to a 7-element lens system for the iPhone 14. Kuo also claims that Apple will be adopting a new FaceID transmitter for the 2021 iPhones which is made out of plastic materials instead of glass. However, it’s still not clear if this design change will affect user benefits, whether that is how good FaceID is or if it will affect the design but, it does mean that Cupertino is cutting costs down. So yeah, Cupertino will be slightly tweaking their cameras for the next 2 years but, it looks like the next big hardware update will come 2 years from now..

Apple’s VR/AR headset could arrive as soon as next year

Well, March is shaping up to be a pretty exciting month. We have received the official launch dates for the OPPO Find X3 and more devices from OnePlus, Xiaomi, ASUS, and more. However, we have also heard rumors of a possible Apple event that’s going to give us new iPad Pro models and other interesting devices. And since we’re already talking about Apple and rumors, we must also remember Ming-Chi Kuo’s reports about upcoming devices.

Ming-Chi Kuo is on fire! The respected Apple analyst has had quite a busy month. He started talking about Cupertino’s future foldable iPhone, the smaller notch in the iPhone 13, and some changes in future devices that include punch-hole displays and vapor chamber cooling systems. However, he now focuses on new wearable devices, as he believes that the new VR/AR headset could arrive as soon as next year.

Kuo detailed what he believes is Apple’s roadmap for virtual reality products, where he lists a new “helmet type” headset with AR and VR capabilities, followed by a new pair of AR Glasses in 2025 and finally an AR contact lens that could arrive sometime between 2030 and 2040.

The AR/VR headset is expected to weigh around 100 to 200 grams, even though the current prototypes weigh between 200 and 300 grams. We could also find Sony micro-OLED displays inside them, which would have “independent computing power and storage,” meaning that they could run without the need of an iPhone or other Apple device.

“Although Apple has been focusing on AR, we think the hardware specifications of this product can provide an immersive experience that is significantly better than existing VR products. We believe that Apple may highly integrate this helmet with video-related applications (e.g., Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, etc.) as one of the key selling points.”

Kuo was also bold enough to give us an approximate price tag for this AR/VR headset. If you’re interested in getting one, you should start saving around $100/mo, since it’s believed to have a price “similar to that of a high-end iPhone,” in other words, about $1,000.

iPhone 13 series to rock a smaller notch, larger battery, and upgraded camera tech: Kuo

Well, it looks like today is iPhone Leak Day in the world of technology journalism, and the single force behind it all is TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a research note accessed by Macrumors, Kuo appears to reiterate a few iPhone 13 series rumors that have been swirling around for a while, lending more credibility to them.

The notch is only getting slimmer, but its width remains the same

Kuo starts by noting that the entire iPhone 13 family will feature a smaller notch. Multiple rumors in the past have also predicted that the iPhone 13 series feature a smaller notch, with the size rumored to reduce vertically while its width remains the same. Apple has reportedly rearranged the sensors to reduce the depth of the boat-shaped notch

Additionally, Kuo also mentions that the iPhone 13 Pro and its Max sibling will come equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate, thanks to the usage of LTPO technology, which also paves the way for an adaptive refresh rate to save battery life. The upgraded 5G hardware will include the new Snapdragon X60 modem by Qualcomm, and there will be four models in total, just like the iPhone 12 quartet.

The LiDAR sensor will remain exclusive to Pro models

Notably, the entire iPhone 13 series is claimed to come with the new sensor-shift image stabilization technology, which has so far remained exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. This technology is said to be more efficient compared to optical image stabilization (OIS). And contrary to previous rumors, Kuo adds that the LiDAR sensor will remain exclusive to the Pro model only.

Lastly, Kuo also claims in his research note that the entire iPhone 13 family will come equipped with a larger battery, thanks to a new internal design that Apple has achieved by putting the SIM slot on the motherboard and reducing the size of Face ID components. However, there is not going to be a USB-C port on the upcoming iPhones, as Apple is sticking with the Lightning and MagSafe standards for yet another year.

Kuo predicts a foldable iPhone might arrive in 2023

Talks about a foldable iPhone have heated up lately. TF International Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a fairly solid track with predictions related to Apple products, now claims that a foldable iPhone might make its debut in 2023. Additionally, Kuo mentions (via Macrumors) that the device could feature a foldable panel measuring between 7.5-inch and 8-inch, which puts it in the same class as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 and the HUAWEI Mate X2.

Don't get your hopes too high though

However, the plans might change down the road and depend on whether Apple manages to overcome some hardware-related supply and production issues by that time. Kuo specifically mentions “key technology and mass production issues” and adds that the idea of a foldable iPhone has “not yet officially kicked off.” What this means is things are pretty much on the drawing board at the moment, and Apple may decide to either delay it, or scrap the project entirely depending on the challenges ahead.

Over the past few months, we’ve come across multiple rumors surrounding Apple’s foldable iPhone project. Earlier this month, it was reported that Apple has roped in LG Display for the development of foldable OLED panels. Leakster Jon Prosser, on the other hand, claims that Apple’s foldable iPhone might go for a clamshell design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and that it might come in multiple color options.

Stylus support for the foldable OLED panel? Yes please!

Research firm Equal Ocean recently chimed in on the foldable iPhone saga and mentioned that the device might arrive with Apple Pencil support, which actually sounds like a sane idea from a productivity perspective. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who is one of the most reliable sources when it comes to upcoming Apple launches, recently shared that Apple has developed prototype foldable screens for testing them internally. However, he added that things are still limited to the screen stage, and a functional foldable iPhone is still not on the lab table.

Interestingly, Apple patents even hint at the possibility of a self-healing foldable display, which is pretty wild. At this point in time, nothing concrete has surfaced so far. And Apple being its secretive self, it is advised to process all these rumors with the proverbial pinch of salt until an official announcement.

Kuo: iPhone camera hardware could get better until 2023

iPhone cameras are indeed some of the best in the market, but we are always expecting them to evolve. However, a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple will take its time to include better camera hardware in its phones.

Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple will have three companies as the main lens suppliers for Apple’s upcoming iPhone lineup. Said companies are Largan, Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO), and Sunny Optical. He also managed to look at the three companies’ technologies and production lines, which led him to believe that we won’t see any significant upgrades in the iPhone 13’s camera hardware or the 2022 model.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Apple won’t find a way to improve the picture and video quality in its upcoming iPhone devices. In other words, Cupertino may focus on software development to improve and enhance the already great results provided by its camera lenses.

“GSEO faces price competition from Largan. Unless the structural challenges of the lens industry are significantly improved or GSEO can significantly reduce its dependence on Apple’s orders, GSEO’s EPS (earnings per share) may not grow in 2021-2022.”

Kuo also believes that Largan will be in charge of fifteen to twenty-five percent of the high-end lens orders in the first half of 2021, which would take some orders away from GSEO. Sunny Optical has been Apple’s recent addition to its supply line, and if things go according to plans, the company may start shipping lenses smoothly in 2021, and it should ramp up production by at least fifty percent in 2022.

Whatever the case, we could finally see Apple look to improve its camera hardware in 2023. Other iPhone improvements shouldn’t take that long to arrive. It seems that Apple is finally ready to give us LTPO displays with 120Hz refresh rates, at least in the Pro models.

Apple could finally launch AirTags and a new augmented reality device in 2021

A new research note from well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shares some light about what we may get from Apple in 2021. And we’re not just talking about the iPhone 13, new iPads or Macs, but new products altogether, as it seems that the long-awaited AirTags may finally be ready to launch in 2021, as well as a new AR device.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple could have everything ready to launch its new AirTags in 2021. These new devices are expected to work as Tile’s Bluetooth tracker devices, and they would help us find our keys, wallets, backpacks, and more. These trackers would also notify users on their Apple devices when one of their items goes out of range. Now, these new Apple AirTags are also expected to be managed through a future Items tag in the Find My app, which will also help you find your items in case you have misplaced your stuff.

Apple seems to be also working on a new augmented reality device. The rumors mention a new AR headset or glasses, but Mr. Kuo didn’t expand on the subject. However, he did mention Apple’s plans to release new AirPods, which could arrive in two different sizes. He also believes that we will get new Apple Silicon Macs and the first iPads with mini-LED displays.

Rumors of a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED displays have been coming for quite a while now, and some even believed that Apple could’ve even managed to launch them late in 2020. Still, the ongoing pandemic has seriously affected the company’s possible launch dates.

Whatever the case, we are also expecting a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and a 16-inch MacBook Pro refresh, both of which would arrive with mini-LED displays in 2021. Ming-Chi Kuo also believes that we may see a new MacBook Air with Apple Silicon and a mini-LED display in 2022, with other products like a 24-inch iMac and a smaller Mac Pro-like desktop in a not so distant future.

iPhone 13 Pro could arrive with LTPO tech and 120Hz displays

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

The latest iPhone 12 lineup arrived with a couple of interesting improvements when compared to the iPhone 11. However, that doesn’t mean that we received everything we were expecting. 5G support was a great addition, but most Apple fans were also expecting to receive 120Hz displays. A new report claims that we may finally get 120Hz refresh rates in the upcoming iPhone 13 lineup, and it also seems that we could receive these devices without delays.

Once again, we have received rumors claiming the new iPhone will arrive with 120Hz refresh rate displays. This feature didn’t make its debut in the recently launched iPhone 12 series, but it may be available with the iPhone 13 since a new report from The Elec claims that Samsung, LG, and BOE will provide new OLED displays with LTPO technology. The first two would still be Apple’s primary supplier, with BOE waiting in line to grab a piece of the cake.

“Samsung Display is hoping to have around 140 million iPhones launching next year to use its OLED panels, the sources said.”

“LG Display is expected to provide its OLED panels for around 30 million iPhones; BOE is expected to take the remaining 10 million units, according to Samsung’s estimation.”

These new LTPO displays will help the new iPhone 13 lineup be more power-efficient, and it is rumored that they would also allow them to feature always-on displays. We would only have to see how Apple deals with some of the battery draining issues presented by their devices since we know that 5G drains batteries faster than LTE, but we have also heard cases of batteries draining while the phones are in standby mode.

Whatever the case, we can at least expect the new iPhone 13 series to arrive with a new A15 chip in its regular timeframe. This means that we may see Apple’s new devices in September, or at least that’s what Ming-Chi Kuo believes. We will only have to wait and see how the ongoing pandemic affects next year’s launch events.

New iPhone 13 lineup may arrive with a smaller battery

Ming-Chi Kuo has been quite active, giving us predictions of future Apple products. He has already mentioned that the company will add Taiwanese manufacturer Career Technology to its supply chain because of the company’s LCP soft boards, which will be included in several Apple devices. However, changes don’t end there, as Kuo also believes that next years’ iPhone 13 lineup will arrive with smaller batteries, which isn’t necessarily bad.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new iPhone 13 lineup will have smaller batteries thanks to a new technology known as soft board batteries. He also says that next year’s iPhones will be the first phones ever to use the new tech. His note explains that these new soft board batteries will be supplied by Jialianyi, which will make the company double its Apple business thanks to said batteries.

“Benefiting from the return to Apple’s full product line soft board supply chain, we predict that Jialianyi’s Apple business revenue will grow by about 100% YoY or above in 2021 […]
“Jialianyi is expected to obtain about 40-50% of orders for battery soft boards for iPhone 13 and 13 mini. We predict that iPhone 13 will be the first iPhone model to adopt battery soft board technology, which will help save internal space and reduce costs.
“The battery soft and hard version suppliers for the iPhone 12 series include Xinxing, Huatong, Yaohua and TTM, and the battery soft board suppliers for the iPhone 13 series are changed to Jialianyi, Xinxing and Huatong.
“We believe that the number of battery panels for the iPhone 13 series is reduced due to the reduced number of suppliers, which will benefit the long-term profits of the suppliers. As a new entrant, Jialianyi is the biggest beneficiary of the iPhone 13 series’ switch to battery soft board design.”

These new batteries have fewer layers than other batteries, meaning that Apple could give its future devices more capacity while using less space. Another option is that we may get a slimmer design.

“The 2021 iPhone display may use 10-20% less power than the iPhone 12, thanks to a more power-efficient technology, according to a new report today. There’s even an outside possibility of some kind of always-on display on next year’s iPhones.”

We just hope they figure out how to give enough juice to the new iPhone 13. We know that it currently struggles with 5G connectivity, and we also expect the new iPhone lineup to include 120Hz refresh rate displays in the higher-end variants.

iPhone 13 may arrive with F/1.8 ultrawide lens and LTPO displays

We have received new rumors concerning next year’s iPhone lineup. This time Ming-Chi Kuo gives us details on the camera of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, and a report from Korea claims that LTPO displays will finally make their way to next year’s iPhone lineup.

First, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that we will receive four new iPhone variants once again. The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max would arrive with a significant camera upgrade, as they would feature a new F/1.8 6P (six elements) ultrawide lens with autofocus. This would give us better quality than the F/2.4, 5P fixed focus ultrawide modules found in this year’s iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. Further, the main lens provider for next year’s iPhone 13 lineup is expected to be Taiwan’s Largan Precision, which would get around 70 percent of all orders.

Then, we move onto the new display in next year’s iPhones, as a report from The Elec says that LG is getting ready to create a new type of OLED panel for the iPhone 13, using a technology known as low-temperature polycrystalline oxide or LTPO. These new displays would consume ten to 20 percent less power than the recently launched iPhone 12 lineup.

“LG Display will expand the production rate of its organic light emitting diode (OLED) panel factory lines dedicated to Apple, TheElec has learned […] LG Display is planning to put in low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPTO) thin-film transistors (TFT) equipment […]
“Apple is planning to apply LTPO TFT to higher-tier iPhone models launching next year. It has used the low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) TFT process so far. An oxide TFT process will be added to become LPTO TFT.
“LG Display likely got prior approval from Apple for its expansion plan – it needs Cupertino’s review to transfer is production liens from LTPS to LTPO. The LTPO equipment being placed in the factory lines will be for OLED panel supply to iPhone next year, while the ones after May will likely be for panels for iPhones of 2022.”

The report also suggests that only two iPhone 13 variants will include the new LTPO displays, which could very well end up being the higher-end iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. However, the report also suggests that these devices won’t feature always-on displays.

“The biggest question for us under-the-hood types: what is an “LTPO” display, and how does it allow for an always-on face? […]
“During the Apple Watch portion of its event, Apple implied that their LTPO tech is the reason the watch can drop its refresh rate and save battery life when it’s not actively being used. But it’s the other components briefly mentioned during the segment, and listed on the news release, that likely make the real difference: “an ultra-low-power display driver, efficient power management integrated circuit, and a new ambient light sensor.”

Now we will only have to wait and see if next year’s iPhone 13 lineup finally gives us a design with a smaller notch and displays with 120Hz refresh rates.

iPhone 12 and 12 Pro pre-orders could’ve reached 9 million during the weekend

The new iPhone 12 lineup kicked off pre-orders this past Friday, October 16, and it seems that its sales numbers may have reached great success, or at least that’s what well-known Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes.

According to the latest estimates provided by TF Security’s Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models managed to pile up between seven and nine million pre-orders during their first weekend on sale. Now, that means that this new iPhone lineup may achieve better sales numbers than its predecessor, as the iPhone 11 reached ten to twelve million pre-orders during its launch week. Further, 2019 iPhone models sold 500,000 to 800,00 units during the first 24-hour time frame, while only two iPhone 12 models could’ve sold from 1.7 to 2 million units during the same time.

Ming-Chi Kuo also mentions that the pre-orders for the iPhone 12 Pro beat analysts’ expectations. This is because Apple’s core user base usually goes for the higher-end variants and because these devices have a strong demand in China, The United States, and Europe. Let’s not forget that there are still two iPhone 12 variants to reach the market, even though these are expected to sell in more moderate quantities.

The analyst had already explained how the new iPhone 12 would lead this year’s iPhone sales, as the 12 mini’s smaller 5.4-inch display won’t be as appealing to customers because of its small screen, even though it will arrive with a $729 price tag if you want it unlocked. As a matter of fact, Kuo believes that it will only make up for 10 to 15 percent of the new lineup’s sales, while the 12 and the 12 Pro would each take around 30 to 35 percent of the new 12-series shipments. The 12 Pro Max would be relegated to the third position, with sales that may go from 15 to 20 percent of new iPhone sales.

The new iPad Pro could be the first Apple device with mini-LED display

The idea of getting mini-LED Apple products has been out for quite a while. We have heard rumors mentioning possible MacBook Pros and iPads with mini-LED displays to be launched this year, but unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. Now, we get information from a very reliable source, claiming that the new iPad Pro will be Apple’s first device with mini-LED displays.

It seems that Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple has been working on mini-LED displays for some time now, and we may soon get a total of six new products featuring this technology. According to Kuo, these will be new iPads and Macs, but he is very specific as to which will be the first Apple device to include this feature, and it seems it will be the iPad Pro.

He claims that Apple will be accelerating mini-Led panels’ adoption because they are performing better than expected in current testing. These new displays would be manufactured by a new supplier called Sanan Optoelectronics, and they could appear on the next 12.9-inch iPad Pro. He also mentions that Epistar will remain the main mini-LED panel supplier for Apple, but the company needed to get more panels to meet the initial demand.

“While Sanan has seen rapid development of its mini-LED capabilities that could allow it ship large quantities of the chips to Apple in the first half of 2021, Kuo says that Epistar has experienced some yield issues that have led Kuo to reduce his fourth-quarter 2020 display shipment estimates by 50% to between 300,000 and 400,000.”

We are also expecting the next iPad Pro to include 5G connectivity, even though we’re not sure if we would only get sub-6GHz support or the faster mmWave 5G antenna. The new iPad Pros and the future MacBooks with mini-LED displays would feature great color gamut performance, high contrast, dynamic range, and local dimming for darker blacks. Rumors suggest that we may see them arrive in the first quarter of 2021.

Ming-Chi Kuo reveals important details about the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup

We are just hours away from the next big Apple event. “Time Flies” is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 1 PM ET, where we expect to see the launch of several new devices. However, the new iPhone 12 is not likely to make its debut. Still, Ming-Chi Kuo has just posted a recent research note that shines some light on some upcoming iPhone lineup details.

According to a new research note from Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 12 models will not support 120Hz refresh rates, but this time it isn’t because of missing drivers. It seems that the reason behind the lack of 120Hz displays in the new iPhones is battery life. Apple would’ve decided to wait until next year to include this feature, as 2021 iPhones are expected to arrive with LTPO display technology that’s not as power demanding as the current iPhone lineup.

Further, Kuo claims that the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will arrive with a narrower notch than the other models, as the 6.1-inch versions and the 6.7-inversion are expected to have the same notch size as the iPhone 11 models. On a positive note, he also says that every variant will include 5G support, with two versions of each model. In other words, we would first get an iPhone 12 lineup that would only include sub-6GHz support, while a second version would also have mmWave 5G connectivity.

As for tomorrow’s Apple event, Ming-Chi Kuo expects to see the arrival of new iPads and the new Apple Watch Series 6, which he doesn’t expect to include a significant redesign. The new Apple Watch Series 6 is believed to feature blood oxygen sensing, and we are led to believe that it may also come with a larger battery. However, rumors also mention that we could also get a new Apple Watch SE. The new iPad Air would now include Touch ID inside its power button, which would help Apple give an “all-screen” design to its models starring 2021.
