OnePlus Nord N10 5G gets hands-free Alexa support in Europe

OnePlus Nord N10 5G, the budget phone from OnePlus is now receiving support for hands-free Amazon Alexa in Europe. You can completely ditch Google Assistant and set Amazon Alexa as the default voice assistant like pretty much any modern Android phone. However, the experience will not be as smooth as the Google counterpart.

The latest development comes from XDA-Developers, which cite a tipster who received an email from Amazon UK stating that his OnePlus Nord N10 5G now has the feature. While the device is still not listed on Amazon UK’s list of Alexa built-in-compatible phones, OnePlus has confirmed to the publication that the feature is indeed rolling out to select European markets. The OnePlus Nord N10 5G is getting hands-free Alexa feature in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain and that the integration works for any EU N10 SKUs.

You don’t need to have your phone purchased from the Amazon website in order for the new feature to work. For the unaware, the OnePlus Nord and OnePlus 8 series already have this feature. It allows you to trigger Alexa from any screen as well as while your phone’s screen is off, much like how you can trigger Google Assitant by saying “OK Google” from any screen. To enable this feature, you need to go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Default apps > Digital assistant app and select Alexa as the default app.

The OnePlus Nord N10 5G recently started receiving the February 2021 Android security patch with a new update. It brought an improved 5G quality of connection in some scenarios to provide a better and stable network environment as well as updated the GMS package to December 2020.

OnePlus Nord N10 5G and N100 will get just one major Android update

OnePlus recently launched two new budget Android devices under the Nord brand. The OnePlus Nord N10 5G and OnePlus Nord N100 were announced for the EU and North American markets. Like other OnePlus smartphones, we expected the new affordable devices to also receive at least two major Android updates, especially when they come pre-loaded with Android 10. But that might not be the case.

The latest development comes from Android Central, which cites a OnePlus spokesperson who reportedly confirmed that there will be only one major Android update for the OnePlus Nord N10 5G and Nord N100. Further, the spokesperson added that OnePlus will continue to take in community feedback to improve the software experience.

“The Nord N10 5G and N100 will receive one major Android update and a total of two years of security updates. The plan for these two devices aligns with industry standards for smartphones in more affordable price ranges. As always, we will continue listening to feedback from our users and looking for ways to improve the software experience for all OnePlus devices,” the OnePlus spokesperson said.

Typically, OnePlus offers two years of Android updates and three years of security patches. However, that’s not the case with the two new phones.

This comes as a bummer. To recall, these phones were launched after the OnePlus 8T that comes with Android 11 out of the box. The new Nord phones come with Android 10. Hence, one major Android update means that these will be updated to Android 11, and will be forgotten soon after. It would have been acceptable if this update meant an upgrade to Android 12, but that’s not the case.

Now, it is expanding its budget lineup with the launch of OnePlus Nord N10 5G and OnePlus Nord N100 in Europe and North America. Interestingly, the two phones will not be making their way to India as opposed to the original OnePlus Nord.

OnePlus Nord N10 5G key specs leaked ahead of rumored October 26 launch

OnePlus re-entered the mid-range segment with the launch of OnePlus Nord this year. Since then, there have been rumors claiming the OnePlus Nord series will get more affordable, and launch in the US market. Plus, according to earlier leaks, two OnePlus Nord phones, including the OnePlus Nord N10 5G could debut in the US market on October 26. Ahead of the rumored launch, specifications of the upcoming smartphone have leaked online.

The latest development comes from popular tipster Steve H.McFly (OnLeaks) who posted the key specifications of OnePlus Nord N10 5G on Voice. The smartphone is said to feature a 6.49-inch FHD+ display with support for a 90Hz refresh rate. It is tipped to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 SoC, which is a mid-range 5G chipset. On the optics front, the device could sport a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and two 2MP shooters. As per the leak, it will pack a 4,300mAh battery and have room for a 3.5mm headphone jack.

It could be priced around $400.

Earlier rumors have claimed that the company will be targeting a price tag under the $400 mark with the OnePlus Nord N10. This would make it a Google Pixel 4a and iPhone SE competitor. It might come equipped with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The new leak only reiterates the specs that have been rumored for a while now.

OnePlus Nord N100 is coming too.

Aside from the OnePlus Nord N10, the company could also launch a Nord N100, which might rely on the Snapdragon 460 SoC, paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. It might include a 13MP snapper in its triple rear camera setup, a 6,000mAh battery, and a 6.52-inch HD display. It might be priced somewhere around the $200 mark. Notably, OnePlus hasn’t teased or revealed any information about the upcoming Nord phones.

OnePlus leak claims two Nord-series phones will debut on October 26

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei confirmed back in July a Nord-series smartphone is coming to the US, since the first-gen didn’t make it to the American soil. In the subsequent months, multiple leaks surfaced online claiming that not one, but two OnePlus Nord series smartphones will arrive in the US market soon. Now, tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer has claimed that the OnePlus Nord N10 5G and the OnePlus Nord N100 will be officially launched on October 26.

The fresh leak falls in line with a previous one which claimed that the Nord N10 5G and the Nord N100 will go official later this month. Starting with the OnePlus Nord N10 5G, it will reportedly pack a 6.49-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Qualcomm’s freshly-announced Snapdragon 690 processor will be at its heart, ticking alongside 6 gigs of RAM and 128GB storage. The Qualcomm SoC will also bring 5G to the table

OnePlus Nord N10 5G’s quad rear camera setup will be highlighted by a 64MP primary sensor, sitting alongside an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a couple of 2MP sensors for macro photography and depth sensing. The company is reportedly mulling an asking price of approximately $400 for its next smartphone, putting it in the same segment as Google’s Pixel 4a and the iPhone SE

As for the OnePlus Nord N100, it will be priced further down the price ladder, which means a less powerful chipset, a lower-refresh rate display, and toned down cameras. As per a previous leak, the OnePlus Nord N100 might rely on the Snapdragon 460 SoC paired with 4 gigs of RAM and 64GB onboard storage.

Other rumored OnePlus Nord N100 specifications include a 13MP snapper highlighting its triple rear camera setup, a 6.52-inch HD display and a large 6,000mAh battery. Leaks suggest that the OnePlus Nord N100 might be priced somewhere around the $200 mark, but do process this bit with a pinch of salt.

Two budget OnePlus Nord phones coming to the US soon?

OnePlus came back to the mid-range segment with the launch of OnePlus Nord recently but the smartphone wasn’t announced in the US. However, it looks like the company is gearing up to launch two new OnePlus Nord smartphones in the country. It is rumored to bring OnePlus Nord N10 and Nord N100 budget devices to the US by the end of this month.

The latest rumor comes from tipster Mukul Sharma who tweeted “exclusive: OnePlus Nord N10 and OnePlus Nord N100 devices are set for launch by the end of this month.” For reference, the ‘N’ in the name likely denotes the Nord series. We’ve heard several rumors in the past claiming that OnePlus is working on budget devices. Hence, these could be launched in the budget segment.

The OnePlus Nord N10 is tipped to be powered by the Snapdragon 690 SoC, which is a 5G chipset meant for mid-range devices. It could come with a 6.5-inch 1080p display with support for a 90Hz refresh rate. Further, the smartphone might house a quad rear camera setup with a 64MP primary camera. It is rumored to pack 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. All of this could be offered within $400.

On the other hand, the OnePlus Nord N100 is said to be the rumored OnePlus Clover device. If it ends up being true then we can expect it to be powered by the Snapdragon 460 chipset, and come equipped with a 6.52-inch 720p display, a triple rear camera setup led by a 13MP sensor. It might pack a 6,000mAh battery, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Moreover, it could be priced under $200.

OnePlus Nord N10 5G with a 90Hz display, 64MP camera coming soon for under $400: Report

In the past couple of months, we’ve heard multiple rumors of a new OnePlus Nord series device that will be more affordable and is headed to the US market. So far, all we have got is an admission from OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei who revealed in an interview back in July that a different variant of the OnePlus Nord is on its way to the US consumers. Now, an AndroidCentral report claims to offer details such as what this phone will be called, how much it costs, and what hardware it will bring to the table.

Starting with the name, the device in question is internally called ‘Billie’ and will debut in the market as OnePlus Nord N10 5G. We don’t have any word on how much it costs, but the report claims that OnePlus is targeting a price tag under the $400 mark, which would directly put it in the same segment as the iPhone SE and the Pixel 4a, both of which have been well-received by the audience.

Coming to the specifications, the OnePlus Nord N10 5G will reportedly feature a 6.49-inch display with an FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate as well. It will draw power from the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 processor, which is the first Snapdragon 6xx series processors to offer 5G support. The Qualcomm chip will be accompanied by a healthy 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage

In the camera department, the OnePlus Nord N10 5G is tipped to pack four rear cameras. The main camera will use a 64MP sensor, and if true, this will be the highest resolution camera we have seen on any OnePlus smartphone so far. It will sit alongside an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a pair of 2MP sensors, most likely for depth sensing and macro photography. No word on the resolution of the front camera though.
