The advantages of carrying an oversized smartphone

The big phones only get bigger, it seems. We’ve been clamoring over gigantic phones since the original Galaxy Note announcement, and possibly even before that over phones which are now comparably quite small. Personally, I’ve been carrying large phones since January 2012, not long after the original Galaxy Note made its way stateside. And I’ve been back and forth between loving and hating giant phones ever ...

LG Gx rumored as new 5.5-incher, but sure sounds a lot like the existing Optimus G Pro

Is LG working on a new Android phablet? That’s a big, fat “maybe” as we get a look at a leak purporting to show off an upcoming LG “Gx” model, but find ourselves questioning some of the details surrounding the find. Those low-res images above were just posted to a South Korean message board, apparently revealing a holiday-themed advertising campaign for the phone. Is what we’re seeing legitimate, or did someone just cook this up in Photoshop? Let’s take a look at why we’re suspicious. Layout-wise, that Gx sure appears

LG gives a stylus to rumored G Pro Lite Dual

So far, LG’s had an interesting relationship with phablets. The devices we’ve seen have either seemed a little odd, like the whole Vu series and their 4:3 displays, or like pale imitations of the Galaxy Note, like we saw with the Optimus G Pro. One big way LG’s efforts have fallen short of Samsung’s has concerned the absence of a stylus; certainly, the S pen has become a key component of the phablet experience Samsung brings users. With the new Vu III ...

LG G2 review: a phablet trapped in a smartphone’s body

About this time last year, I wrote the following in Pocketnow’s full review of LG’s 2012 Android flagship: LG has … an excellent smartphone in the Optimus G. Within its well-crafted, jewel-like casing, industry-leading hardware and one of the most responsive implementations of Android we’ve ever seen combine to deliver a smartphone experience that’s not just adequate, but outstanding. [...] For those in search of an excellent, modern Android smartphone with the proper balance of ...

I may be done with big phones for good

I admit, I wasn’t on board with the idea of a 5.3-inch phone at first. I wrote a couple articles exclaiming how giant phones aren’t all that much more useful than, say, a 4-inch phone, and that they would be more difficult to use, hold, and carry for most people. I despised the original Galaxy Note … until I held one at CES 2012. And that’s when I fell in love. I came home from the trade show and bought one for myself. Admittedly, the original Note wasn’t the greatest phone ever. So I sold it after using it for several months, and set my sights on the Galaxy Note ...

AT&T phone leaks: LG Optimus G Pro, Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3

Fans of the LG Optimus G Pro on AT&T can currently opt for the single version available on the carrier and that flavor is black. According to this leaked render above, the carrier is planning on adding the white version to its line-up too. While this is, by no means, groundbreaking, it’s good to know there are options available, even if the Galaxy Note III is just around the corner. On that exact same note, AT&T is apparently preparing to carry the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, in case you need an ...

Still, images of an unknown LG smartphone kept appearing, and we couldn’t quite shake the rumor that LG might be ...

AT&T LG Optimus G Pro Render Leaks in Advance of Next Week’s Launch Event

Next Wednesday, May 1, LG has a press event scheduled to take place in New York City. While initial save-the-dates didn’t reveal just what LG intended to have on the agenda, we learned earlier this week that the Optimus G Pro had been tapped to star. LG hasn’t gone official with the details on which US carrier(s) the phone would be announced for, but signs at the FCC pointed to AT&T stepping up to give the handset a home. As we wait to get the ...
