Samsung to launch three types of foldable phones in 2021, says OLED research body

At this point in time, it is quite evident that Samsung is giving a big push to foldable phones, and that will likely continue well into 2021. We’ve heard rumors of a new clamshell foldable phone, a successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and a more affordable foldable phone as well. Now, the folks over at OLED research firm UBI Research (via The Elec) have claimed that Samsung will release three types of foldable smartphone models next year.

The report adds that Samsung Electronics’ sister company, Samsung Display, is reportedly making three types of foldable OLED panels, which is a clear sign that the South Korean electronics giant will unveil at least three foldable phones next year. All three devices are claimed to use the in-house UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) solution which is touted to be stronger and better-suited for foldable smartphones and is already being used on the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Galaxy Z Fold Lite arrives in Q1 2021, reportedly!

Samsung is yet to reveal its foldable phone plans for the upcoming year, but those three aforementioned foldable phones set to arrive next year will likely debut as Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 with a clamshell design, and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Lite. The Galaxy Z Fold Lite will reportedly make its debut in the first quarter of 2021, while the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will arrive in the third quarter.

Adding some details about their screen specs, the report adds that the Galaxy Z Flip 2 features a 6.7-inch inner display akin to its predecessor, but the cover display is now much larger and measures 3-inch diagonally. The increase in size will make the latter way more useful compared to the tiny external display on the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. Coming to the Galaxy Z Fold Lite, the device will feature an inner foldable display that will measure around 7-inches, while the cover display is about 4-inches when measured diagonally.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 debuts in third quarter of 2021

UBI Research also notes that the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s inner foldable panel will measure somewhere around 7-inches, while the external cover display will be in the ballpark of 4-inches. The latter part of the prediction is a bit surprising since the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s external display is much larger at 6.2-inches, so process this with a pinch of skepticism.

The report adds that the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s screen will also have low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPTO) thin-film transistors (TFT) to boost power-efficiency. More importantly, the flagship foldable device will offer stylus support and might come equipped with an under-display camera that will be hidden from your sight when not in use.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Lite launch reportedly delayed, could debut next year for $830

Samsung Galaxy Fold Lite first hit the rumor mill last month when it was rumored to be launched at Samsung’s virtual event on August 5. However, the latest leak claims that its launch date has been postponed. It also gives us a price tag of the upcoming foldable phone.

The development comes from a report by a South Korean publication Viva100. It says that the Galaxy Fold Lite launch has been delayed to 2021. Further, the report adds that the device was supposed to be priced at KRW 1 million (~ $830 / Rs 62,800). This is a lot cheaper than the original Galaxy Fold’s price tag of $1,980.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold Lite is said to arrive with different components of 2020, 2019 and 2018. The secondary display on the outside is tipped to be smaller like that on the Galaxy Z Flip. It is supposed to include Mirror Black and Mirror Purple color options. It is reported to only support 4G connectivity, and maybe a 256GB storage space.

We’ve been getting a good amount of leaks of the upcoming Nokia 9.3 PureView. According to a new report, the 9.3 might be able to capture 8K video at 30fps. The problem is that the source claims that the feature is currently only available on a prototype variant and may not make it to the final product. The phone is expected to bring a 64MP or 108MP main sensor and we’re expecting it sometime later this year.

A new, Samsung Galaxy Fold Lite may be coming for less than $1,100

According to a new tweet, Samsung might be working on a Lite and affordable variant of the Galaxy Fold. We’ve been hearing codenames for the longest time including Winner2 and Winner2 5G. According to the tipster, the regular Winner2 might correspond to a Galaxy Fold 2 Lite instead of the actual Galaxy Fold 2. The Fold Lite would aim to go on sale for $1099 by using a mix of components that includes components from 2018, 2019 and 2020 and it also won’t benefit from Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass. This Fold would bring 256GB of storage and it may or may not bring the Snapdragon 865. It would be built out of aluminum and bring a considerably small cover display, kind of like the Z Flips.

Apple’s new AirPods Studio may include head and neck detention

We have a new report with positive rumors for the AirPods Studio. Apparently these will bring Head and Neck detection, similar to the AirPods and AirPods Pro Ear Detection, which pauses a song once you take one of them out. The Studios would know when you have them on your head and will pause whatever you’re playing if you move them over to your neck. Another sensor will also detect your left and right ear to immediately adjust the audio channels, so there is no wrong or right way to put them on. Once you pair them they will apparently also bring a customizable EQ as well. Other rumored features include ANC and those interchangeable bands we discussed yesterday.

Story of the day:

POCO F2 Pro with Snapdragon 865 SoC goes official for €499

After almost two years, the successor to the POCO F1 is finally here. The POCO F2 Pro was announced today and it’s not as bad as we thought. It brings a 6.67in Full HD+ display which achieves a 92.7% screen to body ratio. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 865, either 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of storage, or 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of storage along with a 4700 mAh battery. It brings a 64MP main sensor at the back, a 7MP ultra wide, a 2MP depth sensor and a 5MP macro lens. It brings an on-display fingerprint scanner, dual Sim capabilities, a headphone jack and more. It will be available in 4 different color variants starting at €499 and going up to €599 for the higher tier variant. It will roll out globally starting today. Just like in India where the F2 Pro starts at Rs 40,740 while the SE will cost you Rs 42,500.
