Samsung Galaxy Fold gets select Z Fold2 features with a new update in the US

Samsung recently announced that select Galaxy Z Fold2 features will be coming to its first gen foldable, the Galaxy Fold. Now, a new update is rolling out in the US that brings features like App Pair, Samsung Dex and more to the Galaxy Fold. From improved productivity capabilities to unique camera experiences, the latest update brings a slew of features to the device.

The first addition is of App Pair, which lets you launch up to three apps together in your preferred split-screen layout. It can be accessed through the Edge Panel. You are needed to swipe the side of the screen to see up to 22 of your favorite apps. Moreover, the arrangement of Multi-Active Window can be arranged horizontally.

Further, the company is bringing its proprietary Samsung Dex to the first-gen foldable. It lets you easily connect your device to a smart TV by tapping on the Samsung DeX icon in quick panel. Once the two devices are connected, you can customize the second screen to suit your needs with the screen zoom. You can also use your Galaxy Fold as a touchpad to control the smart display.

The Galaxy Fold update also brings Capture View Mode that lets you capture and review photos in real-time. It displays up to five of the latest photos or videos on the left side of the Main Screen while giving you a preview of your next shot on the other half. There’s Dual Preview that shows the preview of the image on both the cover display as well as the main screen. It also works with video in Pro Video mode. Moreover, you can now directly share the password of the WiFi you are connected with trusted Galaxy devices near you.

Samsung may be working on a new Galaxy Fold “lite”

Samsung has just certified a new device on the Wi-Fi Alliance with model SM-F415F/DS. The first “F” in the device’s model name stands for “foldable” if we consider that the original Galaxy Fold is F900, and the Z Flip is F700. The higher the number means a more premium device, so what can we expect from a 400-series device?

New rumors suggest that Samsung may be working on a new “lite” Galaxy Fold. The device may not necessarily fall into the mid-ranger field, but it may not be as expensive as the other foldable devices. It is believed that Samsung may want to keep the price tag for this device around the $1,000 mark, and it could even feature a non-flagship processor, or at least not the latest.

This may be pure speculation, but if we focus on the device’s model number, the second digit is a “1”, meaning this is a second-generation device, as we saw with the Galaxy Z Fold 2 which has an F91x code, while the original Fold has an F90x model number. Now, the most critical question is whether this device will arrive with a clamshell design or if it will stick to the design of the original Fold. Whatever the case, this Wi-Fi certification doesn’t give us much more information, other than the fact that the new Galaxy Fold lite won’t support Wi-Fi 6.

Samsung and Corning are working together to develop UTG glass for foldable phones

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

According to recent rumors, the new Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 may launch on August 5. This new device is believed to arrive with Ultra Thin Glass, the same material produced by Dowoo Insys and Schott, and the one found in the Galaxy Z Flip. However, the Korean tech giant has partnered up with Corning to bring costs down, and to have better material for their future foldable devices.

Corning is the same company that makes the Gorilla Glass found in almost every important smartphone in the market. The company has recently started working together with Samsung to accelerate development and to set up a supply chain in the US. In other words, we could start seeing Corning UTG in foldable phones starting in 2021, which would reduce costs for Samsung.

Corning had already started working on its foldable phone glass since 2019, and it hoped to have a working design by the end of this year. The biggest challenge in creating this class is the design f the devices and decisions like how much the glass has to bend when the phone is closed, but this new partnership may benefit both companies greatly, and customers would also appreciate that the prices in these foldable phones may actually start to go down.
