Qualcomm Adaptive ANC offers enhanced comfort, sound quality for true wireless earbuds

Qualcomm will introduce 5G to its Snapdragon 4-Series in 2021

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G Compute Platform brings a plethora of new features

This morning Qualcomm made some very interesting announcements. First off they announced their new Bluetooth Audio SoC, the QCC514X which offers enhanced comfort, higher quality and adaptive ANC for TWS Earbuds. We also know that company’s goal is to bring 5G to everyone, so they announced that they will be bringing 5G to their Snapdragon 4 Series by 2021. So far, only the 6, 7 and 8 Series rock 5G, and by introducing it to the 4 it will allow them to take 5G capable smartphones to 35 new countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and more. Motorola, OPPO and Xiaomi have all committed to launch 5G smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 4 Series. Finally, they also showed the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 for 5G Computing. Gen 2 apparently brings a 50% improvement in system-wide performance and battery life against competing solutions. It supports both sub-6 and mmWave, along with Wi-Fi 6. We have a full list of specs and technical details in the links in the description but, it should make it to computers later this year.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite and S20 FE may launch soon

We’ve started covering rumors about the Galaxy S20 Rumors a while back. Then we thought it wouldn’t be a Lite variant and it would be dubbed the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition but, apparently these are two different phones. The S20 Lite has appeared on different and official Samsung support websites, like on the Gear 360 camera troubleshooting tutorial. On the other hand, the S20 FE has been certified by the Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Fi Alliance in three different versions, an LTE variant, and the other two were 5G variants, one supporting sub-6 and the other one with mmWave. We’ve been expecting the S20 FE to launch in October but, we’re not sure how Samsung might proceed if they do decide to launch the S20 Lite as well.

The unique LG Wing with rotating screen is coming on September 14

We knew that the amount of leaks we were getting for the LG Wing was kinda suspicious for a concept, so now we get some official press invitations from LG. Yesterday the company posted a teaser on YouTube to “Explore the Unexplored” so they’re dubbing this the LG Explorer project as it tackles uncharted territory in the industry. Apparently the company is partnering up with Rave, Ficto, Tubi, Naver and Qualcomm for this rotating device. We also have more details on it, it looks like it’ll feature a 6.8-inch primary display with a 4-inch secondary display with a 1:1 aspect ratio. It’ll reportedly be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G or the 768G and it will feature a 64MP camera. It’ll be announced on September 14th at 10AM ET on LG’s YouTube channel.

Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a have just passed through the FCC

We’re getting closer and closer to the leaked Pixel 5 launch date and, it looks like we’re actually getting there. A couple of days ago both, the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G went through the FCC hinting that the launch is close and revealing a lot of details. This certification revealed the model numbers for both the 4a 5G and the 5 in several variants. According to the report, the 4a 5G will reportedly bring the exact same plastic body from the regular 4a but with 5G connectivity and a larger display. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 765G, and it’ll pack a dual camera setup which will include a wide angle lens. The Pixel 5 will apparently come in two 5G flavors, the first one with sub-6 and the mmWave variant will reportedly be exclusive to Japan for some reason. It’s also expected to pack 8GB of RAM and a 4000 mAh battery. We should get these phones on September 30th and in October but, with Google you never know.

iPhone 12 Pro leaks reveal camera layout with LiDAR sensor and new color variant

Finally, let’s talk about iPhones as, we have some new developments. We have some new leaks from Twitter and a new report from Bloomberg. Starting off with the Twitter leaks, we have some new images from a tipster that show the rear glass panel for the iPhone 12 Pro showing off the new LiDAR sensor at the bottom which is actually smaller than we thought it would, it’s almost the same size as the True Tone flash which sits at the top. There’s also a new image that comes from Weibo that allegedly belongs to an iPhone 12 Pro Max case with the same camera array, including the extra slot for the LiDAR sensor. Moving on, a new report from Mark Gurman claims that Apple will be ditching the Midnight Green Color variant for a dark blue tint. It isn’t the first time that we’ve gotten leaks of a blue iPhone but these have been consistent for the iPhone 12, with renders going all the way back to January.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite and S20 FE may launch soon

We have received new information that makes us believe that Samsung will be launching two new devices pretty soon. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite has appeared on a couple of official Samsung websites, while the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition was seen in new certifications.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite was the first device to appear in the official Samsung websites for the US and Germany, as part of the troubleshooting tutorial for the Gear 360 camera and its app. The Fan Edition was then certified at the Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Fi Alliance in three different versions, the first one with 4G connectivity, while the other two came with Sub-6 and mmWave 5G support.

The first time Samsung launched a Fan Edition device was back in July 2017, when the company renamed the explosive Galaxy Note 7 and sold it in the South Korean market. However, these new Galaxy S20 FE will most likely be available in more markets.

Recently it was spotted on Geekbench using the Snapdragon 865 and packing 6GB of RAM and now, Ice Universe is chiming in. According to him this phone will also bring a 120Hz display. He also mentioned the fact that it will be IP68 dust and water resistant and a 3.3mm punch hole. He didn’t confirm if we’ll get it in the middle like on the S20 or on the side like we did with the S10. On the tweet he also confirmed that it’ll get a “nice” price and that it is set to launch in Q4.

Twitter accounts of Apple, Uber, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and more hacked to promote Bitcoin scam

If you’re on Twitter, make sure to follow me by the way, you would know that a lot of pretty big people got hacked yesterday including Apple, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Kanye West, Uber and many others. The hack was apparently conducted through a third party app and they basically ran the same crypto currency scam through out all of these accounts. They would tweet out that said person was feeling generous due to the pandemic and promised that if you send them some bitcoin, they would double it. According to MalwareTech, they made millions of dollars before the tweets were pulled. We have no more information as to what will happen with the hackers or the money but, be aware, it may happen again.

Microsoft’s product chief Panos Panay again teases the Surface Duo in a candid shot

And, since companies leaking their own products is pretty much a trend now, let’s talk about Microsoft. We’ve been waiting on the Surface Duo for almost a year, 10 months to be exact, and now the company’s CPO Panos Panay is just casually showing it off on social media. Back on July 1st he answered a tweet about how excited they were for the Duo by saying he was pumped too and showing off the device. Now, hem posted a picture on Twitter about starting his day while using the Duo while it’s on a case. We’re still expecting this phone to come out for the Holiday’s rocking the Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It won’t have either 5G or NFC and it will run Android 10, we’ll keep you posted if we get more teasers.

13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with Arm processors would ship late in 2020

Apple has made a lot of buzz ever since they announced their new ARM-Based Macs with Apple Silicon. A new DigiTimes report claims that Apple will be releasing a new 13in MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air by the end of 2020. And, this is no secret as we’ve been covering before but, this new report gives us more details on production. According to the report, Taiwan supply chain will begin shipping Backlit units and other components for these Macs in Q3 of this year, which means any time between now and September. Total shipments for these Macs are also expected to grow this year and to be between 16-17M units when compared to last year’s 14.5-15.5M. This is a little earlier than Ming Chi Kuo said a couple of weeks ago. Speaking of Kuo, another prediction in the report also aligns with one of his, where he said we might get a new 10.8in iPad with a “higher-performance” chip in the latter half of this year. We don’t know if this will be a bigger iPad or we’re just getting smaller bezels with the A12 chip inside. We’ll keep you updated.

Story of the day:

Privacy Screen could allow only an Apple Glass user to view content on an iPhone’s display

And finally the hottest news today have to do again with Apple. So do any of you have any guesses why the company wants to push AR so much and also bring us Apple Glass? Well let’s just say it seems to be a privacy feature, and we see how the company is doubling down with iOS 14 as it let’s you know when an app is using your camera or your microphone and helping you protect your gallery. Cupertino just filed a new patent application called “Privacy Screen”. Basically, the way this would work is by using AR and the Apple Glasses to make it look like there is a normal display on your device but, to other people your screen will look completely blank. Now, this is obviously in development and the patent does mention that it decreases battery life because it sometimes pushes the brightness to compensate. There’s different ways to doing this but, the chief method is by using the AR glasses. This system would also work for other features like, displaying information to read with the AR system showing your controls somewhere on the screen. It would help get rid of those polarized screen protectors and give you more privacy if needed. Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition aka S20 Lite will arrive in October

This year we got the S10 Lite and the Note 10 Lite at CES but, it looks like Samsung doesn’t want to wait too much this time around. According to a new Korean report we could be getting a new Galaxy S20 Lite as soon as October. The report claims that Samsung is working on a 3-month continuous phone launch strategy where the Note 20 will arrive in August, the Fold 2 will hit the shelves in September and we could be getting this S20 Lite in October. Another report claims that this phone might actually be called the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition, which just sounds a little fancier. This phone will reportedly come in LTE and 5G skews and will run One UI 2.5 over Android 10.

Microsoft is permanently shutting down its retail stores

I’ve got to hand it to Microsoft for reaching profitability again in such a staggering way, but I’m not gonna deny that the controversial decisions are not my favorite, like killing Windows Phone and writing off the Nokia deal. Well today we have another one. Microsoft decided to close their retail stores temporarily back when the pandemic started but, apparently they want to keep it that way. In a major strategy shift, Microsoft just announced that they’ll be permanently closing almost all of their retail stores across the globe and they will be relying only on their online sales and their services. As for the jobs, we don’t know if they will be able to keep all of them but, Microsoft says that their retail team will “continue to serve customers from the Microsoft corporate facilities or even remotely”. They also say that they will “re-imagine” the space in their stores but we don’t exactly know what that means just yet.

Google Pixel 4a nears launch as it appears on FCC

Even if the Google Pixel 4a isn’t talked about as much lately, it still pops up in the rumor mill just enough for us to not completely forget about it. Now, it was just listed on the FCC which usually means that we’re getting close to a launch date. From that listing we got three different model numbers, one for the US and the other two are most likely for other parts of the world. Now we also have some case renders for the phone that show the more symmetrical bezels we’re expecting, the hole for the stove camera and even the punch hole at the front. The phone on the case render is Blue but, we still don’t know if that variant will be announced as it might’ve gotten scrapped. We’re still hoping for a July 13 launch so we’ll keep you posted as, Pixel 5 leaks should start coming soon.

OnePlus Nord will feature a dual front camera setup of 32MP + 8MP

We’ve been getting a lot of teasers and leaks for the upcoming OnePlus Nord. Now, a new development from Android Central talks about the selfie cameras, yes, cameras. We were expecting this phone to come with a centered single punch hole but according to this leak, it’ll bring dual front facing cameras. These will consist of a main 32MP sensor along with an 8MP secondary, but we don’t know exactly what the secondary camera will do. The leak mentions that the two cameras will come like the ones on the Huawei P40, at the top left corner. We’re expecting this phone to bring a Snapdragon 765, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with a starting price around $330.

Story of the day:

New leaks give us a 4G iPhone 12 starting at $549

iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max could arrive with 120Hz displays

And finally for the hottest news today let’s talk iPhone 12 and two very important things… new perks.. And what you’ll have to pay for a specific variant we didn’t think would happen. We have some new leaks from Ice Universe but, they’re actually not for a Samsung device, sort off. We know Samsung provides Apple’s displays, especially when it comes to the Pro models. Well, according to him and “a reliable source”, the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max have basically the maximum 120Hz refresh rate. Some iOS 14 beta users have found an accessibility setting that limits the frame rate of their device to 60fps, hinting that future iPhones will be capable of higher refresh rate. Now, we don’t know if these iPhones will bring variable refresh rate but, that’s most likely not going to be the case for this year. Instead we’ll apparently get Apple’s ProMotion feature which dynamically adjusts the display to the movement of content for fluid scrolling, greater responsiveness and smoother motion. We also have a new leak from Twitter, though the source I’ve never heard of, and the leak is also funky.. so we have a claim that we will still get LTE versions for the iPhone 12 and 12 Max (Not Pros), and if we do, these will cost as low as $549. The 12 Max will cost $649 and the 5G prices will be $649 for the 12 and $749 for the 12 Max, pretty much like Jon leaked before. Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition aka S20 Lite will arrive in October

Earlier this week, rumors emerged that Samsung is preparing to launch an affordable version of the Galaxy S20 and might call it the Galaxy S20 Lite, following in the footsteps of the Galaxy S10 Lite. As per fresh information coming out of Samsung’s domestic market, the affordable Galaxy S20 sibling could hit the shelves as early as October.

An ETNews report claims that Samsung is working on a 3-month continuous phone launch strategy. In accordance with it, the Galaxy Note 20 will arrive in August, the Galaxy Fold 2 will hit the shelves in September, followed by the Galaxy S20 Lite in October. However, another report claims that the Galaxy S20 Lite might actually debut as the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition.

As the name makes it abundantly clear, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition aka Galaxy S20 Lite will make some concessions in the hardware department to keep the price in check. The phone will reportedly come in two variants, a 4G-only and 5G version, and will boot the One UI 2.5 skin based on Android 10.

Take a look at these hands-on images of the HTC Desire 20 Pro

We’ve been getting a lot of leaks for HTC’s upcoming device and now we have some hands-on pictures from Mr. Evan Blass. These pictures match the previous schematics we had as well as the teaser the company posted earlier this week. It shows an interesting color variant, kind of like the ones on the HTC U12 but this one is a tone of gray instead of blue. We see the triple camera array at the back as well as the physical fingerprint scanner. The leaked specs for this phone include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, 6GB of RAM and this will be HTC’s first phone running Android 10 out of the box.

It seems that a new Samsung Galaxy S20 Lite is on the way

Back at CES, Samsung revealed their new Lite variants for the Note 10 and the S10. According to a new SamMobile report, the S20 will be getting the same treatment. The Galaxy S20 Lite is apparently under development with the model numbers SM-G780 and SM-G781 for the US and Global variants. The global variant will apparently lack 5G capabilities but the US variant will support 5G. It’s also expected to bring at least 128GB of storage and it will run Android 10 with One UI 2.5.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 will come with a flat screen

We have a new tweet from Ice Universe that shows off some cases for the Galaxy Note 20. Both of these are for the regular Note 20 and not for the Note 20 Plus and they show off that flat display that we’re expecting which was confirmed by Ice Universe a couple of days ago. In the Weibo post, he also claims that the Note 20 will enter mass production very soon.

Apple may give us a 12-inch MacBook with an Arm-based processor

Apple will reportedly announce at WWDC that they will be moving on from Intel chips to ARM-based Macs. We have a new leak from Twitter which we should take with a grain of salt, but it actually makes sense. On the Reddit post, Fudge said that based on tidbits from supply chain sources and reports, Apple might bring back the 12-inch MacBook to be the first model with these ARM chips. He details the road Apple has gone through to, to get to these ARM processors, starting back in 2014 by adding the T1 and T2 security chips. This launch with the new MacBook would start a new phase in this project which is basically Project Catalyst which allows Mac apps to work on the iPad. According to the post they are still working on perfecting the Infamous Butterfly Keyboard for it to be on this new model. It would bring the same design from the MacBook and the processor would be of 8-12 cores. Apple is reportedly making three tiers of A14X chips and we expect this rumored Mac to bring the lower tier. The Reddit post is actually a great read (we’ll link it down below) and it goes along with my speculation yesterday on Apple bringing this MacBook back to get started with the ARM processors.

Story of the day:

BOE is allegedly having quality issues with iPhone 12 OLED displays

Yesterday we covered how BOE had failed Samsung’s first round of testing for Galaxy S21 display. Now, a new report from this morning claims that they failed Apple’s as well. This report mentions that they will be submitting new batches to both companies and it is not clear whether these are an initial test run or the actual stock that was planned to be on the iPhone 12. Cupertino is expecting 45M panels from BOE and it’s not clear if it will be affected from the pandemic, besides the quality issues. Due to that we don’t know if Apple will remain with BOE after the new batch they submit but if not, they might go to Samsung or LG which was moved to their third supplier for these BOE displays. The first version would be available with and without 5G support, while the US version would only be available with 5G connectivity.
