Samsung Galaxy Watch3 and Watch Active2 get FDA nod for ECG monitoring in the US

Samsung has today announced that the Galaxy Watch3 smartwatch as well as its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch Active2, have finally received the US FDA (United States Food and Drug Administration approval for taking Electrocardiogram (ECG) readings in the US. To recall, both the smartwatches already come equipped with the electrical heart rate sensors for ECG monitoring, but they weren’t marketed as such in the US market pending FDA approval. Now that Samsung has finally got the green signal, the company has released the Samsung Health Monitor companion app for users in the US to take ECG measurement.

            Image: Samsung

“To use the ECG Monitor app, simply take a seat, open up the new Samsung Health Monitor app, and ensure your watch is snug your wrist. Rest your arm on a flat surface, place your fingertip on the top button, and your watch will record an ECG and classify it as either Sinus Rhythm, or AFib,” Samsung explained in its press release. To take ECG reading, users have to install the companion app on a “compatible Galaxy smartphone.” It appears that Samsung is keeping the feature exclusive to its own line-up of smartphones when paired with the Galaxy Watch3 or Watch Active2.

ECG can prove to be a life-saving feature for people with heart conditions as it detects irregular heart rate rhythm for signs of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), a leading cause of stroke. Once users take their ECG reading, the Samsung Health Monitor app will also let them share a PDF report with their doctor or a concerned individual. To recall, Samsung got the approval for ECG monitoring on the aforementioned smartwatches in South Korea back in May, while its blood pressure monitoring capability was approved a month earlier. Additionally, Galaxy Watch3 can also detect the saturation level of oxygen in their blood, a feature that also made its debut on the Apple Watch Series 6

Samsung Galaxy Watch3 revives the rotating bezel, supports ECG and blood pressure monitoring

Samsung has finally lifted the covers from its latest smartwatch – the Galaxy Watch3. Just as the leaks had predicted, the Galaxy Watch3 comes in two sizes – 41mm and 45mm. The most notable aspect is the return of the rotating bezel, but this time around, it is thinner and more functional.

The new Samsung smartwatch is slimmer and lighter, but it is still based on the in-house TizenOS. Starting with the build, the Galaxy Watch3 employs stainless steel, but a titanium variant is coming later this year. The smartwatch comes with an MIL-STD-810G certified build, complemented by 5ATM and IP68 dust and water resistance.

The Galaxy Watch3 is powered by the in-house Exynos 9611 SoC paired with 1GB of RAM and 8 gigs of onboard storage. The smaller 41mm variant has a 1.2-inch display, while the 45mm version rocks a 1.4-inch Super AMOLED display with 360×360 pixel resolution.

Samsung says the Galaxy Watch3 comes with the most expansive suite of fitness and health-centric features it has bundled in a smartwatch yet. Galaxy Watch3 comes with a fall detection feature as well as the ability to monitor blood oxygen (SpO2) levels, VO2 max, sleep tracking, blood pressure monitoring and ECG as well. However, blood pressure measurement and ECG are limited to South Korea only as of now due to regulatory approval hassles. Plus, you get access to a library of more than 120 different video workouts.

Samsung Galaxy Watch3 price & availability

The Samsung Galaxy Watch3 will be up for grabs starting August 6 in the US. The 41mm variant will set you back by $399.99, while the LTE model is priced at $449.99. As for the 45mm variant, it costs $429.99, while the LTE-enabled version has been priced at $479.99. Interested buyers can choose from Mystic Bronze and Mystic Silver shades for the Galaxy Watch3’s 41m variant, while the 45mm model will be up for grabs in Mystic Silver and Mystic Black paintjobs.

This is the new Sony Alpha a7S III, built for recording 4K video

Alright, like I’ve been waiting for this moment literally for the past 5 years, and I’m both happy and disappointed. Sony just unveiled their new Alpha 7S III mirror-less camera which is oriented for video. This camera brings a new 12.1MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor with a new image processing engine with up to 8x more power. It shoots UHD 4K video with 16-Bit Raw Output. It also allows you to use their new Atomos Ninja V HDR monitor recorder to allow for ProRes RAW recording via HDMI up to 4K at 60fps. So we finally get the camera that all of us YouTubers have been waiting for. Finally, a Sony full-frame camera with larger Pixels, meaning higher ISO sensitivity that includes an articulate LCD that can record 4K at 60. And oh, they finally fixed the menu system and you can actually select things in the menu with your finger. The problem is that, it’s too late and why? Because Canon just killed it with their new 8K RAW video on the EOS R5, and it’s only an extra $300.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 official renders and retail package surface online in fresh leak

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series leaks reveal the price and give us a closer look at its design

The Galaxy Watch 3 is probably one of the most leaked Samsung products of all time. Now, we have a new leak from Twitter showing off the packaging. There’s really not much to see here except for the new Copper variant. The leaked specs for this watch include either a 1.2in and 1.4in display depending on the variant, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage running the latest Tizen OS. There’s also a full Unboxing video on YouTube from a different channel than the one we got yesterday so yeah, no secrets left here. We also have multiple pictures of the Galaxy Tab S7 from Evan Blass, showing the device with the S Pen, the keyboard and even playing Halo with an Xbox Controller.

CES 2021 will be an all-digital experience, kicks off on January 6

Yes, it happened. The CTA just announced that CES 2021 will be an online-only event. The event will take place from January 6th to January 9th and, according to the company, technology and innovation will help them reimagine CES and will help bring together the tech community in a more meaningful way. They also said that by using a digital platform it allows them a more unique experience to help their exhibitors connect with existing and new audiences. This is not a surprise as, all other events except for IFA to some degree have been cancelled and, the CTA determined that there was just no way to carry out CES as a physical event next year.

Apple patent envisions two iPads connected and being used as a dual-screen device

It looks like Apple keeps on looking for ways to avoid adding a touch screen to MacBooks. AppleInsider just discovered a new patent applications that show how Cupertino would design an accessory that would allow you to connect 2 iPads for “notebook-style” computing. The application is titled “Modular Multiple Display Electronic Devices” which basically let’s you use a modular hinge to connect two iPhones or two iPads to use one as a display and the other one as a dynamic keyboard. The patent shows two different scenarios, one would work like a regular laptop with both of the displays on landscape mode or, like a Book which kinda looks like the Surface Duo. There’s multiple patents that suggest multi-screen devices from Apple which could also mean that the company is looking for foldable alternatives as well. Now if only we all lived in Monaco and could afford having two iPad Pros each.

            Story of the day:

We could have pricing, storage options and battery sizes for every iPhone 12 variant

For those of you waiting for the new iPhones, we have even more leaks from Twitter and, there’s actually a considerable amount here. Let’s start off with the batteries, the tipster claims that the regular 12 will bring a 2227 mAh, the 12 Max a 2815 mAh, the 12 Pro will bring a 2775 mAh and finally, the 12 Pro Max will bring a 3687 mAh power pack. The tipster claims that the 12’s battery life is actually worse than the SE 2’s, the 12 Pro will get the same as the 11 Pro, after that you get the 12 Max and apparently the 12 Pro Max will remain the battery king as it will bring similar battery life to the 11 Pro Max. According to him, the small 12 will bring such a small battery because it packs larger camera components and Apple had to make some room by sacrificing some battery life. Now, let’s move on to the prices. Apparently the 12 and 12 Max will come in both 5G and LTE variants and, the 5G 12 will start at $699 for the 64GB variant, while the 5G 12 Pro starts at $799 for the 64GB variant. The 12 Pro and Pro Max won’t bring LTE variants and they will start at 128GB of storage for $1049 for the 12 Pro and $1149 for the 12 Pro Max. According to him the 5G and LTE variants will have $50-100 in difference between them. He also claims that these prices are different than the ones we got from Jon Prosser due to the new mmWave 5G systems and the fact that the regular variants will bring Samsung displays.

Samsung has scheduled an event on August 5 where the company will unveil five new products, some of which have already appeared in extensive leaks. The South Korean electronics giant has now released the first trailer for its highly anticipated event that shows us a glimpse of all the devices that are set to debut early next month.

The Galaxy Note 20 and its Ultra sibling have also appeared in some hi-res renders and we also have come across their camera specifications in detail. Similar is the case with the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+, both of which will bring an upgraded dual rear camera setup and the S Pen magnetically attached to the device. Additionally, live images of the Galaxy Buds Live as well as the Galaxy Watch 3 have also made their way online.

Here’s everything we saw today during Apple’s WWDC 2020

A couple of days ago we gave you some tidbits of features that weren’t exactly talked about at WWDC but are coming with the new updates and now we have some more. For example, you remember the start up chime on the Mac? Well, it’s coming back with the Big Sur update. Speaking of things coming back, Apple is reviving the Game Center on both iOS and the macOS with a new update. iOS14 is also able to detect hand and body motion to provide new features like fitness performance tracking or use emoji overlays on different scenarios. A new privacy feature let’s you give limited access to apps that ask to permission to access your Photos or other files. Let us know if you want more of these updates.

Android 11 sheds more light on Google’s upcoming Android TV dongle

Lately we’ve been getting some leaks of Google’s upcoming dongle codenamed Sabrina. Sabrina would be Google’s first Android TV dongle since the Nexus Player. Now, Google just dropped a new Android 11 Developer Preview, exclusive for this dongle. In it we have some files that make reference to Sabrina along with a new video with instructions on how to reboot it. It looks exactly like the leaked video we got from XDA where the G Logo is in the center instead of the bottom like on the case of the Chromecast Ultra. Rumors hint to this device being launched along with Android 11 so we could get it at the Pixel 5 Event.

OnePlus is making a documentary film about the journey behind creating a new phone

OnePlus has been teasing their new phone in a… different way. Let’s just say they’re taking the crown for making it unique again, cause if you remember, they were pretty much first at launching a phone with an invitation system back in the day. Today, well, first we saw their new Instagram account and now, they just put out a teaser for a 4-part documentary detailing how they made the phone. At least we think, cause the teaser seems to be more about how OnePlus came to be in the early days. The first part will apparently premiere on June 30 and it consists of different interviews and the whole creative process, but it’s not entirely clear if it’s about the OnePlus One, or this new phone that might be coming, but it’s the story of a six month process. The name for the phone isn’t completely clear yet but if you search Nord on Amazon, it lands on a OnePlus teaser. We hope we’ll get more from this documentary ahead of the July launch.

Yet another leak suggests a 108MP camera on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra  More

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G specs leaked online

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 appears in new render

We have multiple leaks for Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked Event. Let’s start with the Z Flip 5G which just went through certification so we got some updated specs. According to this certification it’ll bring the Snapdragon 865 clocked at 3.09GHz, a 6.7in AMOLED display, dual batteries rated at 2500 mAh + 704 mAh and the usual specs from the previous Z Flip. Moving on, we have some new renders of the Galaxy Watch 3 from Mr. Evan Blass himself. Apparently this is the 45mm variant on a 22mm black leather band. We hadn’t really gotten a lot of leaks when it came to design for this Watch. Finally, we have some alleged Note 20+ case leaks that show off the new camera array and pretty much confirm the dimensions we’re expecting and, a very reliable tipster on Twitter just confirmed that it will bring a 108MP main camera. Another report also claimed that the Note 20+ or Ultra will reach 50x hybrid zoom with a 13MP periscope lens and will ditch the ToF for laser autofocus, it will also bring a 12MP ultra wide.

            Story of the day:

Supply chain sources claim the iPhone 12 will launch in September

Apple’s first ARM-based Macs will be a MacBook Pro and a redesigned iMac

And finally, the hottest news today have to do with Apple’s roadmap, which includes iPhones, and also the possibility that Apple Silicon computers are not gonna be products to frown upon. Starting with iPhone there’s been numerous reports that this year’s iPhones will be delayed for obvious reasons but, the analyst that once predicted there wouldn’t be delays is now confirming it. According to him, the supply chain has gone back to normality on an impressive level, way ahead of the expectations and the report claims that this may put Apple in a position where they will be able to launch the new iPhones in their typical mid to late September frame. Now, Ming Chi Kuo did report a couple of months ago that we still might get a delay due to the mmWave variants so we still might get all the phones announced in September but not launched at the same time. Speaking of Kuo, he put out a report a couple of days ago where he said the Apple Silicon plans are kind of epic. Apple plans to launch the redesigned iMac in Q4 of this year. He says that this will be one of the first two ARM Macs that Cupertino plans to release in the fall with the second one being a 13in MacBook Pro. In the meantime, Kuo expects Apple to refresh the current Intel based iMac in Q3 but it is unclear if that model will feature the new design.

And let’s be honest, as much as Chromebooks are cool and affordable, Android apps haven’t really solved much of its problems because hey, the were designed for phones. Well, Google is apparently working on a solution to bring Windows apps to Chrome OS. The company is partnering up with Parallel which is a well-known name which let’s you run cross-platform solutions across different operating systems. In Google’s own words, this partnership will allow them to seamlessly add full-featured Windows Apps, including Microsoft Office to Chromebook Devices. They didn’t go into detail on how they plan to make this happen but, more details and other technical aspects will be revealed in the coming months. This should reduce the cost of hardware for Chromebook users by adding this cross-platform functionality. Thing is, you do realize how much of a problem this might end up being for Windows computer sales, right?

I think we all need a little normalcy in our lives, and that might be the case with Apple’s next launch. We have some new insight on the iPhone 12’s launch from a different analyst. According to him, Apple’s supply chain has now normalized after it was disrupted by the pandemic and it is ready for the September launch. Even if we have some reports claiming that the iPhone 12 might roll out like the iPhone X did, his report claims that we’ll get the normal September announcement with the phones being available for launch in October. He also expects the 4 different models to launch with 5G but, Apple will apparently make different 5G models for the non-US variants which won’t support mmWave. He also claims that even though people believe there’s lower demand this year, Apple might enter a super cycle with 350M of the current 950M iPhone users are in the upgrade window. These new lower price tags on the 5G phones will make it easier for people to upgrade. He also mentioned the fact that the EarPods won’t be on the box anymore, driving more sales for the AirPods. As for WWDC the report mentions that we’ll be getting iOS 14, the transition to ARM based Macs, and some “breadcrumbs” on the Apple Glasses or other AR products. New Samsung Galaxy Watch3 and Buds Live may be announced next month

We have recently seen certifications that confirm the names and the sizes of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch3. Rumors suggested that this new wearable would launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and the new Galaxy Fold 2, but further information says otherwise.

It seems that we may get to see the Samsung Galaxy Watch3 before than expected. New information has been posted by SamMobile, where it claims that we could see the Galaxy Watch3 announced in July. It is also said that the new smartwatch will share the spotlight with the new bean-shaped Galaxy Buds Live. We still don’t get an exact date for the announcement, but the report also suggests that both the Galaxy Watch3 and the Buds Live will go on sale around the next Unpacked event that will be held on August 5.

Samsung and Corning are working together to develop UTG glass for foldable phones

Samsung introduced their Ultra Thin Glass for foldables this year with the Galaxy Z Flip and we’re expecting to see it on the upcoming Fold. The current material is produced by a Korean manufacturer called Dowoo Insys but Samsung apparently wants to step it up. Apple could let you take long distance group selfies in the future

It looks like Apple is looking to take social distancing to a whole new level. A new patent shows that the company is working on a way to take a group selfie, without all of the people in the picture being present. It would send an invitation to you, and all of the participants would take a separate picture, and software would create a synthetic group picture. The funny part is that Apple filed this patent back in 2018 and it was just granted back to them, probably due to the pandemic. This feature would not only work with still selfies, it would also allow live streaming images and stored video images.
