Instagram locks down API, breaks sharing through IFTTT

Instagram’s logo isn’t the only thing they’ve updated recently: They’ve also made significant changes to their API.Internet automation service IFTTT posted a blog this afternoon detailing upcoming changes to the Instagram API. It would seem Facebook is locking the service up a bit tighter, which is going to hamper folks who like to share photos directly on services like Twitter.

Snapchat vs Slingshot: self-destructing photo shootout (Video)

Last year, Facebook caught a lot of flak for releasing a Snapchat clone last year, dubbed Poke. However, the app never really caught on and Facebook pulled it from the App Store back in May.Just last week, Facebook tried its hand at the destructive photo sharing app again by releasing another Snapchat competitor, Slingshot. It’s easy to mistake Slingshot as a Snapchat knock-off. And while the two services have a lot in common, like the same basic function, Slingshot has its fair share of differences ...

Top 5 social apps for Android (Video)

The brunt of our mobile usage – for most of us, anyway – is social. Yes, there are things like gaming, reading, and other forms of entertainment which are commonly devoured by mobile users. But smartphones are still largely communication devices, even if we’re communicating in entirely different ways than we were a decade ago. As such, social apps are some of the most important and interesting. And there is no shortage of social apps in Google Play. So where do you even begin? Well, the native Facebook, Google+, ...

Instagram BETA for Windows Phone walkthrough (Video)

Instagram has been one of the most requested applications to be brought to the Windows Phone platform. Co-founder of Instagram, Kevin Systrom, revealed his desire to bring the photo sharing platform to all mobile operating systems, but when that would actually happen was previously unknown. How often do you disconnect? (Poll)

I am … a connected man. At any given time, I have two smartphones in my pockets, and many more in my “nerd bag“, along with a couple tablets, MacBook Pro, and a host of related devices. (Currently a Moga Pro controller, NEX-5N camera, UE Boom speaker, UE earbuds, Bluebuds X, etc.) In other words, I’m always connected – some way, somehow – to the Internet. I tweet dozens of times every day, I post to Google+ regularly, and I creep on Facebook for a collective hour ...

Follow us on Instagram!

For all its limitations, Instagram appears poised to remain an unstoppable force in social media. As of last month, the Facebook-owned service boasts over 16 billion photos shared, a brand new video-sharing feature that’s spanking the competition, and over 130 million monthly active users. Well, make that 130 million and one. Because we’ve just joined the Instagram universe under the venerable (if predictable) title: “Pocketnow.” Now, many Pocketnow team members also have personal Instagram accounts which many of you already follow – and we thank you for that. ...

Do you want one social app to rule them all?

While smartphones are now capable of doing more than many of us ever thought possible, such as graphic-intensive gaming, taking impressive photos, or data speeds faster than most home Internet connections, I explained in May that the majority of our use is still communication and social networking. For most, modern smartphones are pure overkill, which is why I assumed a switch back to BlackBerry might not be so bad, why it might be refreshing. Obviously, that

The future of Waze may lay in the hands of Facebook or Google

In the States, yesterday was Memorial Day. It’s a day we spend remembering men and women who have given of their lives, times, and talents to fight for our Freedom and Liberties. It’s also a time where we honor our departed loved ones by visiting and decorating graves. In my family, it’s an annual tradition to gather at Grandma’s house, then trek to three cemeteries, cleaning headstones, placing flowers, remembering all the good times had together, and forging new memories as well. Memorial Day also represents a three-day weekend in which a great many people head ...
