New iPhone 12 display issues have caught Apple’s attention

Apple’s latest iPhone 12 lineup has recently hit the shelves, and even though they are great phones, they aren’t perfect. Just last weekend, we saw that some users had started reporting issues with the iPhone 12 mini’s Lock Screen sensitivity, while the iPhone 12 and Pro had problems related to the Messages app. However, it seems that the list doesn’t end there. Now, more iPhone 12 devices have started presenting other display issues.

It seems that the new iPhone lineup is having more problems than expected. User’s complaints usually mentioned missing SMS messages or notifications in the 6.1-inch variants of the iPhone 12, or devices that have to do with the iPhone 12 mini, and how its Lock Screen doesn’t recognize the press or swipe to unlock when they used their thumbs.

The latest bug is also related to the display of the iPhone 12, which is now presenting a greenish tint and flickering. These issues have started to show up on Apple’s Support Community page, and unfortunately, there’s no immediate solution in sight.

The guys over at MacRumors got their hands on an internal document where Apple acknowledges the issue in some iPhone 12 displays, and it has also started to give instructions as to what to do when encountering these problems.

“In the document, shared with Apple Authorized Service Providers this week, Apple says that it is aware of customer reports related to this issue and is investigating. Apple has advised technicians to avoid servicing affected iPhones, at least for now, and instead inform customers that they should keep their iPhone up to date with the latest iOS version. This guidance suggests that Apple may be confident that it can fix the issue in a future software update.”

This is not the first time iPhone displays have presented this issue, as the previous iPhone 11 lineup was also affected by a similar problem. However, Apple managed to fix it with the iOS 13.6.1 software update, meaning that flickering, a green or gray glow, or other unintended lighting variations in the iPhone 12 lineup could soon be fixed with a future software update.

In the meantime, try setting the display’s brightness to 90% or lower and see if the issue is also affecting your iPhone 12, as users claim that this is when the display starts to show unwanted variations.

Instagram will now show more Reels and shopping posts with new update

Instagram is definitely not the app we all used to know and love some time ago. The social media app has been undergoing a couple of changes since it was acquired by Facebook back in 2012. These changes made Instagram co-founders leave the company back in 2018, but the latest changes may be worse than everything we’ve seen so far.

Instagram has announced today that its new update will feature a revamped app layout that will prioritize Reels and shopping posts instead of traditional posts. The app’s home screen layout will be rearranged, meaning that the navigation bar and the top bar will now show what Instagram wants users to use the most. And two of the most important buttons for Instagram, Create and Activity, will be moved from the bottom bar, and they are now going to be placed at the top of the user interface, alongside the DM/Messenger buttons. In their place, we will find the new shortcuts for Reels, Instagram’s TikTok competitor, and Shopping.

“Today we’re announcing some big changes to Instagram – a Reels tab and a Shop tab. The Reels tab makes it easier for you to discover short, fun videos from creators all over the world and people just like you. The Shop tab gives you a better way to connect with brands and creators and discover products you love.”

This is maybe, the most annoying update the app has received in the past few months. We can understand the ‘Suggested Pots’ added to the feed to help discover content from accounts we don’t follow. However, the recent integration of DM’s and Facebook Messenger isn’t something I personally love. And now, users have to put up with the latest changes that clearly push content consumption products over the traditional posts that made us love Instagram.

Safari on Mac is getting faster and safer with new upgrade

macOS is getting tons of new features with its Messages updates, its new version of Maps, the Mac Catalyst, and Safari is also getting better.

According to the latest WWDC 2020 presentation, Safari is now 50% faster than the Google Chrome browser. It has also improved privacy with more visibility in how each site you visit tries to track you. You get access to this information through the Privacy icon. Safari also tracks your passwords, and it makes sure none were compromised in a data breach.

Safari is also getting extensions; each one has its own button on the bar, and each extension has granular approval controls where you can choose which sites each extension can work with, giving them access: just for the one day, just for the site or to allow the extension all the time. You also get a fresh, cleaner customizable start page with redesigned tabs that are more elegant and powerful. You can also add native translation capabilities right into Safari.

Sony postpones PlayStation 5 event on June 4 due to ongoing unrest

Last week we covered how Sony would be hosting an event on June 4th to showcase their newest game titles for the upcoming PS5 but it looks like that won’t be the case. The company just announced that they will be postponing their event as they feel that right now is not a time to celebrate and that more important voices should be heard at the moment. The company hasn’t revealed when the event will happen but, we’ll keep you posted. Bravo Sony. Thank you for taking a stand.

Android 11 leak shows a redesigned power button menu, controls for smart devices

Google delays Android 11 Beta Launch Show event scheduled for June 3

Now, even if Google just postponed their Android 11 Developers Preview Event that was happening on June 3rd, we have some Android 11 leaks. The event was postponed indefinitely due to the protests and the situation in the US but they claim the full Android 11 launch won’t be delayed. These new leaks come from Twitter and they basically show us the Power Button menu where we see 5 controls like Emergency, Power Off, Restart, Screenshot as well as a new Quick Controls menu which shows your smart devices and wallet access. The leak also shows that we will be getting a UI redesign at least in things like these. Google, also thank you for taking a stand.

if your iPhone runs on iOS 13, it could also get the new iOS 14 update

For those of you battling a tough economy, holding on to your device a bit longer is always a welcome relief, and you know Apple does that best. We have a new leak of which devices will be getting iOS 14 this year. We should take this with a grain of salt as this source doesn’t have the greatest track record but, according to them some inside sources claim that all devices running iOS 13 will be able to run iOS 14. This means that if you still have an iPhone 6s or iPod Touch7th gen or later, you’ll be able to get the update. They didn’t provide any information on iPads but we’re hoping it’ll be the same case if this actually happens.

Galaxy Note 20 might be able to pack a battery as big as the Galaxy Note 20+

I think one of the biggest deterrents of the small Galaxy Note 20 was that you weren’t getting a Galaxy Note Quality battery, and it looks like Samsung noticed. Apparently the company doesn’t want to cheap out on the batteries for the Galaxy Note 20 line. It just went through China’s 3C Certification and it shows that the regular Galaxy Note 20 will bring a 4300 mAh battery that’s rated at 4170 mAh. As a reference, last year’s Note 10 brought a 3500 mAh battery while the Note 10+ brought a 4300 mAh battery. According to another leak we got last week, the Note 20+ will bring a 4500 mAh battery so Samsung is closing that gap between the two variants.

Story of the day:

New images of alleged iPhone 12 dummy units suggest some changes

iPhone 12 allegedly begins mass production in 3Q20 with October launch in sight

And finally the hottest news today has to do with iPhones, and the fact that things might not be so bad for the launch timing, nor components. According to a new DigiTimes report, this year’s iPhones won’t get the regular September launch and we’ll have to wait until October, which switches things from the November we had heard. Due to the travel bans Apple hasn’t been able to send enough engineers to China which has delayed the production. DigiTimes also claims that the 6.1in iPhone will start production earlier than the rest. This is the iPhone that will allegedly bring the LG and BOE displays. The report suggests that this may happen to make sure that these panels meet the quality standards as LG display has had issues in the past. The Samsung displays on the other 3 are also easier to manufacture as they eliminate a separate touch layer. We also have some dummies of the iPhone 12 line up from MacOtakara which show the 4 designs but these don’t show the smaller notch that we’re expecting.

if your iPhone runs on iOS 13, it could also get the new iOS 14 update

Every time we get a new software update, we wonder just which devices will get it. Apple has done a great job in updating some of its older iPhone models, even though it had to throttle some processors to preserve the batteries in its devices, something it will eventually have to pay for. Now, a new iOS 14 update is on the horizon, and it seems that it could be available for any iPhone and iPod that currently runs iOS 13.

According to the information posted by The Verifier, you will be able to install iOS 14 in your device if it’s running iOS 13. This information allegedly comes from a trusted source from the system development process, meaning that the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, XR, XS Max, XS, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, SE 2020, and the 7th generation iPod Touch would get the new software. iOS 14 is expected to be presented in the next all-digital WWDC event, which is supposed to take place on June 22. As for iPad OS 14, there is still no information that tells us if this new software will be available for every iPad model that runs iPadOS 13.

The OnePlus 8 is getting new 5G band support at T-Mobile

If you have a T-Mobile version of the OnePlus 8, you can go to your phone’s settings, and check the latest T-Mobile software update is available for your device.

T-Mobile is sensing OTA software updates to the OnePlus 8 devices on its network. This new update includes 5G support with two new bands. You won’t be using these bands right away, but at least your device will be ready when they become available. The update includes support for 5G bands 2 and 66, in addition to the bands 5, 41, and 71 that were supported at launch.

T-Mobile’s 5G network works on the 600MHz band 71, it’s working to support more bands in the near future, which would also include the just added band 2 which is the 1900MHz and band 66 which is 1700/2100Mhz.

You can go to the device’s Settings > System > System Update > Check for update, and see if this software is already available for your device.

Samsung Galaxy S20 series gets a new software update to boost its camera

The Samsung Galaxy S20 series is now receiving a new software update that will improve its camera performance. Samsung has been working to improve its flagship’s camera after the autofocus issues presented. Hopefully, this update won’t affect the device’s display or its fast charging features, as a previous update did.

The latest software update from Samsung is giving the Galaxy S20 and S20+ faster autofocus, which will make cameras lock faster onto whatever you’re trying to capture in a shot. Now, the camera in the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is the one to get the most out of this software update. It will get a dedicated Close-Up zoom function, which will help the device improve its performance when focusing on an object at a close range. The camera’s Night mode has also been improved, and the device will now give you a more responsive fingerprint reader and better sound quality from the speaker. The complete Galaxy S20 series will also get May’s security patch with this update, so be ready to install the G98*NKSU1ATE6 firmware version, which is already available in South Korea, and it should reach other countries soon enough.
