Caviar made a $500K PlayStation 5

Caviar is known for making luxury electronic items by adding the most expensive materials including diamond and gold on the already-existing products. The brand has now announced that it is making a custom PlayStation 5 for $499,000. For the unaware, the regular PS5 costs $500. So what do you get for a 100,000% increase in price? The answer is, gold!

Caviar has made a console covered in 4.5 kilograms of 18-carat gold and a crocodile leather-clad controller, which makes it a $500K PS5. According to the company, only nine of these consoles will be made. Moreover, it says that it has already received more than 1,342 applications including from the NBA star, Lebron James.

Caviar Sony PlayStation 5

“Since December 28, the company has received 1,342 applications for the new product. Among those who showed interest in Golden Rock was the famous basketball player LeBron James, the company also received inquiries from a well-known Russian businessman living outside Russia and an equally famous American businessman in the IT field, whose names are not to be disclosed,” wrote Caviar.

Golden Rock is assembled from 8 sheets that have been cast in solid gold. As per the images, it seems like the Caviar is only selling the digital edition of the PlayStation 5.

The company will also create premium versions of the product made of carbon and leather. These premium custom versions of the PlayStation 5 in black leather and carbon on the official Caviar online store will start from $5 830. There is an Alligator leather version with bits of 24-carat gold that is priced at $8140. Caviar will make 99 pieces of these PlayStation 5 units.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 teardown reveals liquid metal cooling and an ingenious stand

So far, we’ve only had glimpses of Sony’s PlayStation 5 from the official reveal and a few videos from Japanese publications, but nothing too detailed about its inner hardware. Well, the wait ends now, thanks to Sony’s official teardown video of its latest console. Yasuhiro Ootori – VP of Mechanical Design Department, Hardware Design Division at Sony Interactive Entertainment – meticulously took apart the PlayStation 5 on video while explaining the engineering that went behind it. However, the two aspects that stood out the most about the PlayStation 5 are its ingeniously designed stand and the use of liquid metal for cooling

Starting with the stand, it looks like a disc with a slight incline and two claws. Notably, the stand is put to use irrespective of whether the console is kept vertically or placed horizontally on a table. When standing vertically, a single metallic screw at the base is used to hold the stand and the rest of the console in place. Now, if you want to position it vertically, it is easy too, but you must first worry about safely storing the screw. Or NOT.

Source image

The stand’s underside has a small compartment where the screw can be safely kept. Now, all you have to do is rotate the top of the stand and the screw will be safely sealed in the compartment. And if you’re worried about the screw hole at the base being visible while the console is kept horizontally, Sony also hides a small plastic screw in the aforementioned compartment that can be used to cover the screw hole. Neat, isn’t it? Now, you can use the stand’s claws to clip it alongside the real panel, while the flat portion cushions the sides as the PlayStation 5 is laid horizontally.

The M.2 slot for expanding the storage using PCIe 4.0 drives.

The other interesting thing we learned from the PlayStation 5 teardown video is that Sony has used liquid metal for cooling. Now, this is not a first, as Asus has already showcased it on video and plans to use the novel solution in its ROG-branded gaming laptops soon. However, it is by no means an easy feat to achieve inside a console, as Sony claims to have spent over two years trying to fine-tune the liquid metal technology and getting it ready for the PlayStation 5

PlayStation 5 uses liquid metal for cooling instead of thermal paste or vapor chamber solution.

The liquid metal plays the role of a Thermal Interface Material (TIM) to draw heat from the processor and direct it to the huge heat sink inside the PlayStation 5. Ootori pointed out that the liquid metal solution is as effective as the vapor chamber technique, which Microsoft has adopted for its own next-gen console – the Xbox Series X – without namedropping it. The Sony executive also mentioned that using liquid metal instead of the conventional thermal paste as TIM ensures “long-term, stable, high-cooling performance.”

Sony claims that despite using a larger two-side fan, the PS5 will run quieter.

Sony’s official PlayStation 5 teardown video also reveals the M.2 slot that can be used to expand the storage using compatible PCIe 4.0 drives. Additionally, the two dust catchers are easily accessible, which means all foreign particles can be vacuumed out without breaking a sweat by just removing the two side panels with bare hands. On the front, you’ll find a USB Type-C port and a USB 2.0 Type-A port.

The rear panel has two USB 3.1 Type-A ports without a 10Gbps output, sitting alongside an ethernet port and an HDMI port. The console is also claimed to be quieter, despite using a larger, double-sided fan with a 120mm diameter and 45mm thickness. Overall, it appears that the PlayStation 5 won’t be a repairability nightmare. You can watch the entire teardown video below:

Meet Sony’s next console – the PlayStation 5

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

The wait is finally over. Here’s your first look at the PlayStation 5. Sony just concluded its Future Of Gaming – Playstation 5 Game Reveal online event by giving us the first glimpse of the PlayStation 5. And let me put it in clear, comprehensible words – the PlayStation 5 is the most beautiful Sony console ever. Actually, it is the most visually striking console ever made. Period.

It will come in two versions – the vanilla PlayStation 5 has a disc slot, while the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition lacks one, and thus has a slimmer profile and a more symmetrical design. The build is an all black-and-white affair with Sony’s signature blue LED streaks lining the vents. As for the I/O ports, they’ve been conveniently positioned on the front.

We’ve already gazed upon the console’s DualSense wireless controller, but today, we also got our first look at the DualSense Charging Station that will simultaneously charge two controllers. Sony also briefly showcased the HD Camera and new Pulse 3D Wireless Headset as well. And to handle media playback and the UI, there will also be a Media Remote for the PlayStation 5.

Today’s deals include the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10

The offical news today begin with deals on a ton of products, some great, some good. On the good list, well B&H currently has the 2019 13in MacBook Pro for $300 off. This is the 4-Thunderbolt 3 ports, Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage variant, leaving it at $1499 shipped. Yeah good because if you look at the newer one, that’s the better buy. Amazon has the 512GB Samsung Galaxy S10 for $300 off as well, leaving it at $700, though if you dig deeper, you can get the same S10 for $808 with the Galaxy Buds bundled. We also have more deals on Acer Laptops, Monitors, Nintendo Switch controllers and more in the link in the description.

It’s official! OnePlus will no longer make McLaren Edition smartphones

Earlier this month we covered how OnePlus’ name wasn’t on McLaren’s list of collaborators anymore. Now, a McLaren spokesperson just went on record and officially stated that their partnership has come to an end. According to him, it came to their scheduled conclusion and that OnePlus has been supportive and that they wish to see them in the future. We got two phones out of their partnership and we don’t know how they’ll handle the Concept One if it ever comes out, since yes, that was a McLaren phone.

Sony schedules a PlayStation 5 game reveal event on June 5

And listen, if there’s a time for gaming consoles, it’s now, as we need to stay at home, and it seems Sony is willing to bank on it. The company just announced that they’ll be hosting an event on June 4th for the PlayStation 5. Sony is promising to showcase ‘the future of gaming’ at this event which typically means that we’ll be seeing some games for the upcoming console. We haven’t gotten any other details from Sony but a recent report claims that they might show a total of 38 games including a bunch of exclusives. The event will be live on YouTube and Twitch and we hope to get to see some hardware as well. Let’s also hope that hardware is not crazy expensive, as that would be unrealistic in today’s economy.

Apple needs an urgent supply of LCD panels from LG Display

It looks like the pandemic is affecting Apple in sales but not in the conventional way. Cupertino originally cut orders for their products in Q2 to anticipate the pandemic. What they didn’t anticipate is that due to the transition to e-learning, iPad stocks in China have been down since March because most parents have bought one for their kids to attend school from home. This would be good for Apple if they wouldn’t have cut orders before, and now they’re urgently asking LG for LCD panels to meet their iPad demands. The problem is, these requests usually come three months in advance to give room for LG to prepare. Apple has other providers for the iPad displays like BOE and Sharp, but LG might want to answer this because of their deal to supply displays for the iPhone 12 Max. Clearly this is a good problem to have right now.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20+ cameras leaked?

According to this new leak, the Galaxy Note 20 will fix some of the focusing issues we had with the S20 Ultra from a hardware perspective. The leak gives us both of the camera arrays, the regular Note 20 will apparently bring a 12MP main sensor, a 64MP telephoto, and a 12MP Ultra Wide. On the other side, the Note 20+ will bring the 108MP main sensor, a 12MP telephoto, a 12MP ultra wide and laser autofocus. The laser autofocus would help the main sensor to lock into subjects and while the 12MP telephoto doesn’t sound as impressive in paper as the S20 Ultras 48MP, the 12MP telephoto might help out during pixel binning as the Ultra does create 12MP images after all. It looks like the camera won’t be that different from the S20’s, let’s just hope they refine it. Now if only they included the return of variable aperture. A sensor this large needs it.

Story of the day:

Pixel 4a XL leaks show what the phone looked like before it was canceled

And finally the most interesting news today have to do with the Google Pixel 4a XL. I know, that one that apparently won’t get to ever be. Most of the leaks have hinted that there won’t be a 4a XL variant this year but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t in development. We have some leaked images from 9to5Google of Pixel 4a cases where we see the familiar design. It has the orange Power button, the hole for the fingerprint scanner at the back and the 3.5mm headphone jack. However, the camera cutout shows too lenses here and we’re only expecting a single shooter for the 4a. We also have some CAD renders of the phone which show the dual lens camera and the punch hole at the front. Why dual cameras on this phone and not on the small variant is a good question, but even more important, why do you think Google cancelled this phone?

Sony schedules a PlayStation 5 game reveal event on June 5

Sony has announced plans to host a virtual PlayStation 5 event on June 4 that kicks off at 1:00 PM PDT (1:30 AM IST) and will be live-streamed on YouTube and Twitch. As for the event itself, Sony is promising to showcase ‘the future of gaming’ during the event, likely referring to the games for its next-gen console.

“I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday,” President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan wrote in a blog post. The event will last a little over an hour and will be open to all who tune in.

Sony has not dropped any details about the games that will be showcased during its June 4 virtual event, but we suspect a few PlayStation 5 exclusives will be a part of the reveal. Sony might showcase upcoming PlayStation 5 games at a virtual event on June 3

Sony is planning to reveal the first batch of games coming to the upcoming PlayStation 5 console by holding a virtual event on June 3, as per a Bloomberg report. However, the date is not set in stone as the “plans have been in flux and that the date may change.” We don’t know what or how many games Sony will reveal, but the upcoming issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine does offer a hint.

A 13-page preview of the Official PlayStation Magazine’s 176th issue reveals some details about upcoming PlayStation 5 games such as Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Scarlet Nexus, and Gollum. But the key detail is on the cover, which clearly says “38-next-gen games + first gameplay screens.” It appears that the magazine’s latest issue that will be out soon will give us a glimpse of 38 upcoming PlayStation 5 games.

We suspect that Sony will talk about these 38 next-gen console games during its June 3 virtual event. So far, we have only received confirmation from third-party developers regarding their PS5 games, but details about first-party Sony titles for the console have been scarce. Hopefully, Sony will reveal more information later this week.
