Amazon Echo out of stock, won’t be replenished for a month

Amazon can claim some sort of success this holiday season as it has pushed its Alexa-enabled devices to the limit.

The Echo smart speaker has sold out and won’t be back in stock at Amazon.com until January 21. Its discounted price of $139.99 (22 percent off) will apply to pre-orders for now. The second-generation Echo Dot, still at its discounted $39.99 price tag, will be back on December 27. The portable Tap speaker, now at $89.99, is still amazingly available for Christmas as of this post.

A spokesperson for the e-commerce site said that the wired-up Alexa devices may still be found at retailers like Best Buy, Lowe’s, Staples, Sears and Toys “R” Us with Amazon bookstores in Portland, Oregon, San Diego and Seattle also included in the group.

Analysts believe that the Google Home will receive the lion’s share of sales in the smart speaker sector. Possible deliveries at this point, though, won’t make it until at least December 28.

Black Friday? Time for Amazon’s Cyber Monday deals!

We were questioning how long Black Friday really was going to be today and yesterday and the past week and for all of eternity. Amazon was and is one of the culprits perpetrating the perpetuation of a dark day in American commerce. But past the weekend, it will keep its website tendencies to where it belongs: on Cyber Monday… week.

The e-marketplace is announcing more than 75,000 deals over the next seven days. A lot of the deals on Amazon devices remain as they were since a week ago — that includes 99 cent Dash Buttons with $4.99 credit for whatever product you’re getting, at least 20 percent off Alexa devices and Fire tablets starting at $33.33. And don’t forget, if you have an Alexa device, ask around for some elusive, exclusive deals.

Of our interest are only a couple of deals such as the Sonos PLAY:1 Compact Wireless Smart Speaker for $149 (though it’s already $50 off direct from Sonos), up to 30 percent off some HP laptops and a Nest Cam for $163.98, even though it’s $149 today.

You know what, the more we look into these deals, the more we find ourselves a little bummed — it’s more Black Friday. But keep watch on specific Deals of the Day — that’s where the real, unannounced magic happens.

Alexa’s Black Friday on Amazon available by asking “What are your deals?”

If you’re planning on keeping the naughtiest hint of holiday-purpose commerce out of your eyesight, perhaps your salvation may be coming within an earshot of your Amazon Alexa-enabled device.

The e-marketplace has expanded from its first Alexa-only deal, offering the Fossil Q Founder Android Wear smartwatch at a discount, to include a few hot ticket items for the Black Friday… dare we say it… season. Actually, these deals only last through the weekend until November 21.

Those get started off with a word to Alexa:

  • “Alexa, order an Amazon Tap” at $50 off ($80)
  • “Alexa, order a Samsung TV” with a 32-inch 1080p screen for $80 off ($115)
  • “Alexa, order a Star Wars robot” —  specifically, the Sphero Star Wars BB-8 App controlled robot for $30 off ($98)
  • “Alexa, order a [Philips] Hue Starter Kit,” featuring 2 bulbs and a Hue Bridge Hub for $15 off ($55)
  • “Alexa, order studio headphones” from Beyerdynamic at $80 off (model not specified)
  • “Alexa, order an All-Clad cookware set” containing 10 pieces for $130 off ($470)
  • “Alexa, order a Lego Classic Brick Box” for $10 off ($30)
  • “Alexa, order AA batteries” from AmazonBasics, 30 percent off a 48-pack ($2.97)
  • “Alexa, order Lindor truffles” from Lindt, 35 percent off a box of milk chocolate ($5.25)

“Everyday essentials” will also get up to 40 percent off as well as other gifts, too. If you get in on an Alexa deal above the $10 level through November 28 will get $5 back in an Amazon Gift Card, while supplies last.

AT&T skill for Alexa lets you dictate and send texts with an Echo

Amazon’s voice assistant service, Alexa, knows plenty of skills. Book a flight? Done. Tell you the scores? Also done. Buy things on Amazon? Don’t be conceited — done.

But AT&T has a new “Send Message” skill it will offer so that you can use your Echo, Echo Dot, Tap or whatever Alexa-enabled device you have to get texts over to the most important people in your contacts list. You can tell Alexa your message to send and who out of ten selected contacts to send it to.

The skill, which Ma Bell claims is a first in its industry, debuts Friday.

Texting? Done.
