The Apple Watch Series 6 and the Apple Watch SE are some of the best watches available in today’s market. However, Apple will not stop there, and recently published patent applications can give us an idea of what we may see in future Watches.
It seems that Apple is looking for ways to include Touch ID and under-display cameras in future Apple Watches. The first feature was mentioned in a patent granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office. This patent is titled “Electronic device having a sealed button biometric sensing system,” which means we could get Touch ID integrated into the Digital Crown found in the Apple Watch.
“The processor may apply the biometric identification for any of several purposes; for example, user identification, device unlocking, and application authorization.”
Touch ID would be a great feature for future Apple Watch models, as it would help make the device more secure. This extra level of security would help users to unlock their devices and authorize Apple Pay transactions. The best part is that this new feature would easily be included in a future Watch, as Apple has already managed to include it in the power button of the fourth-generation iPad Air.
The second new feature that would make its way to a future Apple Watch is an under-display camera. This patent is titled “Electronic devices with two-stage displays.” This patent explains how a display can be layered to include a camera and a flash, which would only be visible when needed.
This new technology would also make its way to future iPhone devices, so we may be closer to the death of the notch. This new technology works by layering a pixel array for displaying images in a first layer, while an outer layer would include an array of light modulators that could become transparent to allow the camera to function.
“When it is desired to capture images, control circuitry in the electronic device may temporarily place the shutter in a transparent mode to allow light from a flash and/or light being imaged by the camera to pass.”
Now, we would only have to wait and see if these features make their way to the next Apple Watch Series 7, or if they make their way to future Watches, since not every patent makes it to a final product, even though these features would definitely be a major upgrade in any future Apple Watch.

It seems that we may finally get an under-display camera in one of Samsung’s flagship. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 may be the company’s first device to get rid of the punch-hole displays, without the need for notches or pop-up selfie cameras to give us more screen real state. However, rumors don’t stop there, as we may be getting a third device in the Z Fold line this year.
We have been getting tons of rumors concerning the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. It is believed that this new device will finally be able to support stylus input, thanks to some changes in its S Pen’s base technology. However, the latest rumor suggests that Samsung is ready to include an under-display camera in its new foldable.
Reports claim that Samsung Display is already making the panel that’s needed for the under-display camera, and Samsung’s System LSI division would produce this camera sensor. Now, things don’t stop there, as Samsung also has to figure out how to improve the quality of the images and videos captured by this camera with the development of an image correction algorithm.
At the same time, leading Samsung will release Fold3, which will bring a lot of innovative technologies. CUP (Camera under Panel), S Pen, second-generation UTG, etc.

We could say that we have already received confirmation of some of the upcoming goodies in the Samsung Galaxy Z fold 3, as Ice Universe has already posted that the Z Fold 3 will bring a lot of innovative technologies.

And since we’re mentioning Ice Universe, he has also claimed that we will get three different devices in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold line this year. A less expensive Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Lite, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 with S Pen support and a new under-display camera, and a new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold S, which could include a sliding display.
If the Samsung Galaxy Note series is eventually replaced, it should be replaced by the scroll, not the Fold, because the scroll is more like Note in the normal state (extremely like), it is the evolution of Note, this is a reasonable arrangement. What do you think? pic.twitter.com/NFVI4ufA7s

Now, rumors claim that the Samsung Galaxy Note series will disappear, and this may be because the Samsung Galaxy S21 may include stylus support. However, Ice Universe believes that if the Galaxy Note series is to be replaced, the best option would be to replace it with the new Galaxy Z Fold S.

We are still waiting for a flagship device to launch with an under-display selfie camera. Earlier this year, we saw some rumors suggesting that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 may be one of the first devices to include this feature. However, the latest leak suggests that the first Samsung device to equip an under-display camera will not be the part of the Galaxy S series.
It seems that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S30 won’t feature an under-display camera due to the low production yield of the technology. A report from Korea’s TheElec claims that Samsung was first aiming to deliver an under-display selfie camera with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. However, things haven’t gone according to Samsung’s plans, and it would’ve also been forced to desist on this idea. Now, plans would be focused on delivering this new technology with the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
No under panel camera on S21
— Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) August 4, 2020
The report suggests that Samsung will be ready with under displays camera in the second half of 2021, which would set the Galaxy Z Fold 3 as the better option. This is in case that we don’t get another iteration of the Samsung Galaxy Note series, as rumors say that the Samsung Galaxy S21 will also feature S-Pen support.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra is also expected to come with an Exynos 2100 processor, the same battery size as the one in the Galaxy S20 Ultra, but with added 65W fast charging support. It would also come with major camera improvements, as it is believed that we will get a new Bright HM2 108MP camera as the main shooter, joined by 64MP, 48MP, and 32MP sensors in the back panel, while the regular selfie camera would come with a 40MP shooter. Unfortunately, we have been told not to expect Time of Flight sensors in this series either, but we may see these sensors make their way back to Samsung devices very soon.

Selfie cameras have come a long way since they first appeared in the front panel of a smartphone. We have seen them arrive in notches, in hole-punch cut-outs, and we even say a few with their own mechanical system that made them rise to action when needed. However, we may soon get under-display selfie cameras, just not in the Huawei Mate 40.
A new Huawei Mate 40 is on the way, and rumors suggested that it would be the first device to include an under-display selfie camera developed by Visionox. Unfortunately for Huawei fans, that won’t be the case. Digital Chat Station claims he has seen the device in person, and he’s even seld an engineering sample of the phone, which doesn’t include an under-display camera. He didn’t give further details, so we still don’t know if we will get a notch or a punch-hole display.
