Huawei Honor 7 Coming to Europe

Huawei has officially confirmed its Honor 7 smartphone for the European market, where the company will be hoping for even some of the success the device has enjoyed so far. Nine million units have been pre-ordered in China, and while that is not a guarantee of purchase (as it would be in other countries) it does mean plenty of people are interested in the new mid-range device.

UPDATED: How to live stream Apple’s iPhone 6S keynote right now

UPDATED: How to live stream Apple's iPhone 6S keynote right now

Update: Live stream today's Apple iPhone event right now. It's ongoing and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has already been announced, so here are all the different ways to watch it online.

Apple's live streaming keynote event is bound to reveal more than the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, meaning there's additional reason to watch into today's online video.

CEO Tim Cook and executives like Phil Schiller will grace the stage of the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, for what we predict will be the unveiling of a new Apple TV and iPad Pro, too.

Of course, this being Apple, the question "how to live stream the event" is more complicated than it should be. This is the one time of year everyone with a Mac has to use Safari - like it or not.

Things are a little bit different, with Microsoft's Windows 10 browser supported, too, so we figured we'd run you through the stringent Apple live streaming requirements one more time.

Apple event live stream on a computer

Safari is the one and only way to live stream Apple's iPhone 6S keynote if you're on a Mac. The company is determined to have us fire up its browser at least three times a year for events.

New this year in the fact that Microsoft's Windows 10 browser is supported. Early adopters who have the new operating system and the Edge browser are in luck this time around.

Mac and Windows computer users can watch the live stream through Apple's official website, while Google Chrome users are out of luck. You can watch them whine on Twitter every time. It's fun.

Live stream Apple's event via an iPhone or iPad

Naturally, Apple is making its live stream available to iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users through the same official website live stream webpage.

However, because it requires Apple's special HTTP Live Streaming technology, you'll need to watch it through Safari and have updated to the iOS 7 software by now.

If you don't have iOS 7 by now, when iOS 9 is releasing this month, you're earlier way behind on the times, or you're unable to upgrade on a 16GB iPhone without deleting everything.

Watch Apple's event live stream via Apple TV

Make that iPhone 6S Plus and iPad Pro look even bigger today by casting the live stream event onto your big screen television or project.

In order to do that, you need either a second- or third-generation Apple TV and accompany software 6.2 or later. The Apple TV 2 came out in 2010 and Apple TV 3 released in 2012, so you probably have the newer hardware by now, if you can't remember.

Really, there's no better way to usher in the new Apple TV era than watching today's press conference on the exact device that's about to be replaced. It's one last hurrah for your steady set-top box.

Apple keynote live stream via Google Chrome, FireFox

Go home, you're drunk.

If you're seeing a message like this, which we experienced at Apple's WWDC event this summer, then it's because you're trying to use Google Chrome or Firefox to stream today's iPhone event.

Try opening Safari or, if you're on a Windows 10 computer, Microsoft Edge. Those are the only two supported browsers.

LG’s new Nexus 5 could be released on September 29

LG's new Nexus 5 could be released on September 29

Almost every detail about the rumored LG Nexus 5 reboot has been brought to the surface by numerous leaks, except for the release date. If this scoop from a South Korean outlet holds any truth, we could see the phone available at Google's online store on September 29.

The rumored release date, as G for Games points out, comes from a source that also got the release date right for the original Nexus 5 ahead of its launch two years ago. We want to believe.

As far as what will be inside of the phone, or what it will actually look like, we're left with nothing but speculation to go off of. Some rumors suggest that the phone will come stocked with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620, while others claim that the reboot will house the Snapdragon 810. And if you're looking forward to the new device keeping hold of the 2013 design, this leak suggests the new phone might look totally foreign by comparison.

The rumored launch date of September 29 isn't very far away and, fingers crossed, maybe LG will debut the hotly anticipated phone at IFA 2015 in Berlin. We'll be live at the event, so bookmark that link.

Huawei Watch pre-orders open (briefly) as pricing is finally revealed

We’re coming up on it being half a year now since Huawei first revealed its Huawei Watch smartwatch at MWC, and so far, shoppers have yet to be able to buy the wearable. Earlier this month, though, it finally looked like Huawei was ready to get the retail phase of the Huawei Watch started, posting a new webpage promising that the smartwatch was “right round the corner,” and today we finally see some motion to that end, as ...

Careful where you stick that S Pen | Pocketnow Weekly 163

One of the nice things about the current monoform world of slab smartphones is that there are very few moving parts to break. Until, that is, you decide to defy common sense and stick your brand new Galaxy Note 5’s S Pen into its silo backwards. That’s when life stops getting funny … and starts getting real. Join us for a debate on whether this is an example of terminal user stupidity or inexcusable design flaw, and then stick around for all the news of the week in mobile technology, from the new Nexus to the new Lumias to the old (and now dead) Fire Phone. All that ...

Strong evidence emerges for 16GB storage option returning for iPhone 6S

Apple’s press event is now on for September 9, and there’s little doubt that we’re about to see the company’s latest iPhone models. While that much may be taken for granted, we’ve still got plenty of questions about just how these new options will land, and what impact they’ll have on Apple’s plans for sales of existing iPhone models. Those questions include the subject of storage capacity, and we’ve long wondered if and when Apple might drop its 16GB option for new iPhones, just as it already dropped the 8GB option, making 32GB the new ...

This week in mobile – deception and depreciation

The mobile world moves quickly – probably faster than just about any other industry in the world.New devices are announced on what feels like a weekly basis; perpetual software updates are hitting for hundreds of mobile devices; one-off press events are always happening; and while phones seem to have a longer life span than they did back in, say 2010, they still become antiques in what feels like no time. Looking back, it’s crazy to see how far the industry has come over the years – from phones that (barely) handled email to pocket-sized computers that are increasingly awesome ...

Gigaset Smartphone Coming from Former Siemens Division

We remember back in the good old days of feature phones when many companies we now admire so much were not really big names at all. LG, Apple, and even Samsung had little market presence, while the likes of HTC were finding their feet and the likes of Xiaomi and Maize did not even exist. This was a mobile market dominated by Nokia, but there was also a company called Siemens, and it was among the biggest mobile companies in the world.

LG G4 Pro to Boast Dual Rear Cameras

LG announced at an earnings call early this year that it would be debuting another flagship smartphone in 2015, a phablet heavyweight to go alongside the current G4. The company went as far as calling the device super-premium, so since then we have been expecting a lot from the so-called LG G4 Pro. Today we have another round of specs to sink our teeth into and they prove that the device certainly will be a beast.

OnePlus 2 Arriving Next Weekend in “Aggressive Invite Rollout”

OnePlus makes fantastic smartphones, but the company's invite system to purchase one is frustrating. It is a model that has sort of worked (the OnePlus One was a sales success), but we can't help but think the company would sell a lot more if it opened up sales. Cost cutting is the reason for the invite system, but OnePlus says it has finally cracked how to get this sales model right and soon and "aggressive invite rollout" will happen.
