Devs finally have Actions on Google materials to let Google Assistant link to services

When we first checked out Google Assistant, we complained that it just wasn’t anywhere near primetime. Though versatile, it was a mediocre messaging app at best and it really could’ve used what was promised at I/O: third-party service links so that you could ask OpenTable to reserve a few seats at that Thai place you’ve wanted to try.

Well, developers can now finally have at it. The search giant has finally released development tools for Actions on Google that will help you not only get together a voice user interface for your “action,” but also make sure that options are best trained to what humans say and track metrics on those requests. Tools are available from API.AI, DashBot, VoiceLabs, Assist, Notify.IO, Witlingo and Spoken Layer.

The Google Pixel and Allo will soon be able to make use of those Actions pretty soon. Developers can join the early access program to be part of the first wave of actions out at release.

Actions from CNN, Food Network, BuzzFeed, Busuu, Midnight Signal, USA TODAY’s For The Win sports column, Domino’s, And Chill and a whole bunch of other sources will get things started soon enough.
