Apple Support app launched on iOS to deal with basics and device repairs

If you’ve spent the last couple of days fumbling around the Apple Store app trying to schedule a Genius Bar appointment, you’re not alone. Apple silently removed all easy access to scheduling appointments within the app on a recent update, and with no other alternatives but to either dig, or schedule it on your computer. We eventually learned that this was part of a broader plan that finally becomes official today.

After a silent launch in the Netherlands, Apple has just launched a new Apple Support app for iOS in the US. The idea of the app is to help you trouble shoot basics on your device without the need to call anyone, or visit a store. Still, if your problem can’t be resolved through the app, it’ll help you schedule Genius Bar appointments, just like you could with the old Apple Store app.

If you think of it, the change makes sense, as having support services within a retail app did lead to a certain degree of confusion. It’ll most likely extend to other countries very soon.
