Running your office life from your smartphone

I’m in no way shape or form what one would consider to be an office worker, desk jockey, pencil pusher, etc… I’m a railroad mechanic by trade. Aside from ordering the necessary parts to complete my job or to complete the appropriate work orders to receive pay I have very little use for a computer day to day at work. If it can’t be beat with a sledgehammer, cut with an oxygen/acetylene torch, welded, or taken apart with a wrench I have no use for it in my professional life. Probably the most tech friendly thing I use in my job is using my phone to stream music via Google Play all ...

Nexus shutterbugs may get Google Photos sweetheart deal

If YouTube didn’t show how deep Google’s cloud bank has grown to be, bring on last year’s I/O. The event brought on the free storage of lightly-processed images under 16 megapixels in resolution. Original quality photo uploads still count against users’ Drive storage, but there’s a hint coming through from the code compilation of the Google Photos app, version 1.21.// // // // ...

Don’t text and drive in Canada and Texi will reward you

A little personal narrative: I took a summer course during college about crisis management and one of the big projects thrown on top of the class was about creating a campaign to reduce texting-while-driving behavior for a global public relations competition (fun fact: the PR initiative was sponsored by alcoholic drinks distributor AmBev). One campaign entered into ...

Google Now Lets Android Apps Store Data in Special Google Drive Folders

Cloud storage can be a smart way for an app to manage your data. Maybe it needs to store a lot of info that’s not regularly accessed, and it wouldn’t make sense to keep it all on your phone. Maybe that data is very important, and it would be smart to have a backup copy residing somewhere. In order to make it easier for developers to provide such services, Google has updated its Google Drive API, giving developers some new tools for using it as app storage. The big change is that apps can now set up ...
