No one uses Multi-User accounts on phones (and that’s a good thing)

Somewhere during the transition between Android Kit Kat and Lollipop, the Android blogs were awash in the discussion about multiple user accounts for mobile devices. If two (or more) people used the same gadget, they could have their own unique user ID’s and passwords. When logging in, their own customized homescreens and app collections would appear. People seemed really excited about this feature, but now on the cusp of Android N’s consumer facing release, multi-user accounts isn’t something much discussed, especially for phones.

Should Apple return to glass for a future iPhone?

Tech is now a part of most people’s lifestyle, which means it’s also a part of most people’s individual fashion, and fashion moves in cycles. We know the next generation of iPhone probably won’t be radically different the current 6S. Form factor, build material, design, we don’t expect the iPhone 7 to stray too far from what Apple current offers. We do expect to see some new technologies like the potential for a dual sensor camera module, but as for aesthetics? Probably only minor evolution.

Why don’t manufacturers revisit “classic” phone designs?

The launch of the iPhone SE brought up a few interesting questions regarding design. This hardware shell is now going on its fourth year of service with little change from the original iPhone 5. This is an obvious cost savings measure from Apple, and prevents any consumer confusion as to which new phones are “premium” and which phones are more “wallet friendly”. However, if Apple were to recycle a shell, the iPhone 5 was a very well received design. There’s something “classic” or ...

Has your phone ever been stolen? (Poll)

Smartphone thefts are a real thing. Smartphones are valuable, even ones with broken screens or older models. Someone looking to make a quick buck can snag a seemingly basic, beaten smartphone when its owner isn’t looking, take it to a classified ads site (not unlike Craigslist) and sell it later that day for a quick buck. It’s a very small amount of work for a quick $50 to $300, depending on the phone and its condition. And the more popular and common smartphones are, the higher the risk of theft will inevitably become. We’ve seen an increasing number of phone thefts ...

When do you put your tech to bed?

The quality of my sleep has drastically declined over the years, as well as the amount I get each night. On a rare great night, I might get six hours of sleep. If it’s the weekend, I may get eight. But an average night of sleep is five hours or less. Sometimes much less. It’s a safe bet to assume the seemingly harmless smartphone in my pocket or tablet in my bag play a major part in this. Oh, and that incessantly buzzing smartwatch that rattles off the table every night … it plays a part, ...

Do you disconnect for the holidays?

As of last month, I’ve been doing this mobile technology gig for four years. Playing and tinkering with new mobile devices has become more than just an awesome job, more than an obsession or hobby. As cliché as it sounds, it’s a way of life. I’m always messing with things, tweaking my home screens, searching for new apps and services, trying new games, reading tech news, poking and prodding, and thinking about what I’m going to say about a product once the final review time ...
