Moto G50 offers 5G and 90Hz display on a tight budget

After appearing in multiple leaks over the past couple of weeks, Motorola has launched its latest G-series mid-ranger – the Moto G50. Priced at €229.99, the latest budget phone from Motorola will be available in a bunch of European markets in the coming weeks. Right now, the phone is listed on the Motorola UK website with a ‘coming soon’ status. However, details about its availability in the US market are yet to be revealed, but we’ll keep you posted when the device lands stateside.

90Hz refresh rate, but you gotta live with an HD+ resolution

The internal hardware is modest, yet not too shabby for what Motorola is asking for the price tag. You get a 6.5-inch display with a low-ish HD+ (1600 x 720 pixels) display that translates to a pixel density of  269PPI. On the bright side, the screen refresh rate stands at 90Hz, which is neat.

Qualcomm’s freshly announced Snapdragon 480 SoC keeps things running inside, in tandem with 4 gigs of RAM and up to 128GB of onboard storage. You can expand the onboard storage via a microSD card of up to 1TB capacity. Do keep in mind that a 1TB microSD card from a reputed brand like SanDisk usually costs around $220, just shy of the Moto G50’s asking price itself.

You get three cameras at the back – a 48MP main snapper, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, you’ll find a 13MP shooter sitting in a waterdrop notch. Both the front and rear cameras can record FHD videos at 60FPS frame rate. Moto G50 also offers a handful of other camera tricks such as Hyperlapse video, RAW image capture, spot color (a favorite of mine), macro video, and cinemagraph to name a few.

The phone comes equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging. However, you will only get a 10W charger in the retail package. Android 11 with an almost stock interface runs things on the software side, and interestingly, there is NFC on the table as well. The water-repellent build is plastic, and you get to choose between two colors – Aqua Blue and Steel Grey.

Moto G50 appears on TENAA ahead of impending launch with images in tow

In the past few weeks, we’ve heard rumors about an upcoming Motorola phone codenamed ‘ibiza’ that will likely debut as the Moto G50. And earlier this month, a retailer even leaked the asking price of the yet-to-be-launched budget phone. Now, it has been spotted on the database of Chinese regulatory authority TENAA, giving us a glimpse of its design from all sides. And at first glance, it looks a lot similar to the Moto G30 that was launched a few weeks ago.

Stock Android 11 experience, 5,000mAh battery, and 90Hz display

We see three cameras at the back and a round fingerprint sensor area with the batwing logo emblazoned across it. Over at the front, we get a waterdrop notch on the Moto G50, just like the Moto G30. As per the TENAA directory (via GSMArena), the phone comes equipped with a 5,000mAh battery and supports 5G as well, while Android 11 – likely with a stock interface – handles things on the software side.

A recent leak mentioned the model number XT2137, and we see the same figures on the TENAA listing as well. The Moto G50 will reportedly cost €229 (~ $271) for the 4GB + 128GB memory configuration, but another variant with 6 gigs of RAM has been rumored to be in the pipeline as well. And if the leaks are to be believed, it might be launch by the end of March.

The budget 5G device might be launched by the end of the ongoing month

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 480 will reportedly power the device, and there will be a 5,000mAh battery to keep the lights on. The triple rear camera setup likely includes a 48MP main snapper that uses a Samsung sensor, a 5MP shooter for macro photography, and a 2MP depth sensor. Motorola will reportedly equip the G50 with a 16MP camera to handle video calls and selfies.

Interestingly, the display will only offer an HD+ resolution, but the refresh rate stands at 90Hz. NieuweMobiel recently shared alleged renders of the Moto G50, and they match with those on the TENAA listing. The Moto G50 will likely arrive in two colors – black and what appears to be jade green shade with some form of glossy gradient finish on it.

Motorola Ibiza (Moto G50) leaked price suggests an affordable 5G smartphone

A Motorola smartphone surfaced online with the codename ‘Ibiza’ in January. It was tipped to be a budget device that offers a 90Hz refresh rate on the HD+ display. It was also spotted on Geekbench, which suggests that the company is planning to launch the device soon. Now, the alleged pricing of the Motorola Ibiza has leaked online. Moreover, it is tipped that the Ibiza could be named Moto G50 officially.

Moto G50 price leak

The Moto G50 price has leaked via a Spanish retailer. It revealed that the device could be priced at 230 Euros. The price is for the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. However, past Geekbench listing has also touted the presence of a 6GB RAM model. The listing suggests an octa-core Qualcomm processor under the hood, which is rumored to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 SoC. The device scored 2,466 points in the single-core test run and 6,223 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench 4.

The Motorola Ibiza, which is likely to be the Moto G50 is tipped to come equipped with a waterdrop notch display that will have support for an HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. However, there is no word on the display size. If the renders are to be believed, you will get a thick chin at the bottom and considerable bezels on the sides. It could come with 6GB / 4GB of RAM and have inbuilt storage of 128GB.

The Moto G50 is rumored to run Android 11 out of the box. Further, it could pack a 5,000mAh battery. In the optics department, it is tipped to sport three cameras on the back. The setup could be led by a 48MP Samsung S5KGM1ST main camera + a 5MP macro lens + a 2MP depth sensor. On the front may lie a 13MP selfie shooter. The device is likely to debut in the first quarter of 2021.
