OPPO Find X3 could feature a custom-made Sony IMX789 lens

OPPO launched the Reno5 Pro+ recently as its first smartphone that is powered by the latest Snapdragon 888 chipset. It comes with an electrochromic rear and a 50MP Sony IMX766 lens built in partnership with Sony. Now, it seems like the Chinese company has plans to upgrade the camera features of its upcoming flagship as the latest leak states that OPPO and Sony are also working on a custom chip named Sony IMX789. We could see it on the OPPO Find X3 series.

The leak comes from Weibo via a reliable tipster who claims that Sony and OPPO are working together on a new sensor. This lens could be called Sony IMX789, and it could be seen first on the upcoming OPPO Find X3 flagship smartphone. As per the machine-translated text, all flagship models from OPPO are tipped to use a customized sensor. Moreover, the lens could remain exclusive to OPPO for certain a period. While it is unclear which upcoming OPPO smartphone will be arriving with the new IMX789 lens, we expect it to be present on the Find X3 series. It could also launch alongside the Reno6 series that may debut by mid-2021.

The Sony IMX766 is the latest camera sensor from the brand. It promises a top-notch photography experience in low-light conditions. It features a 1/1.56-inch sensor and it offers a  unit pixel area of 1.0μm. The sensor can intake 63.8 precent more light as compared to the 48MP Sony IMX586 lens.

As per earlier leaked information, the upcoming OPPO Find X3 Pro is codenamed Fussi. It is said to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G processor and a new ‘full-path color management system. The OPPO Find X3 Pro was earlier expected to feature two 50MP IMS766 image sensors from Sony. OPPO’s new concept is a triple-folding Slide Phone

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

OPPO has showcased yet another foldable smartphone. While the company is yet to manufacture a foldable for the market, we’ve got to applaud the new designs the Chinese company showcasing as concepts. This comes after we reported that OPPO could launch a new foldable smartphone in 2021. The latest OPPO concept is a triple-foldable smartphone.

OPPO has developed the triple-foldable phone in collaboration with Japanese design studio Nendo. The company is referring to it as “Slide Phone.” The new concept device can easily fit in the palm of your hand due to its triple-fold design, which can slide up one fold to offer a 1.5-inch screen to the user. It can be used to check notifications, answer phone calls or to access the music player.

You can further slide it up to reveal the 3.15-inch display. OPPO claims that this is good enough for taking photos and some casual gaming. Furthermore, you can unfold it fully to use the 7-inch display that features minimal bezels. That said, it comes with a weird aspect ratio that is long and narrow but it could be good for multitasking. OPPO is also offering stylus support that is also housed in the phone’s body. On the optics front, the triple-foldable concept device sports three cameras with an LED flash.

OPPO recently showcased its concept X too. According to a previous report, 2021 could shape up to be the year of foldables. Google could try its hands at the foldable market. Further, Chinese OEMs like OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi are also said to introduce their folding phones in 2021. Samsung is tipped to announce three smartphones in the segment. There have been rumors about a lite variant of the Galaxy Z Fold but a new report said that there will be no Z Fold Lite. Instead, Samsung could announce a new Z Flip Lite in late 2021.

Google alongside OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi might launch a foldable phone in 2021

The foldable smartphone market is all set to expand next year. While Samsung and HUAWEI have been in the segment for a couple of years now, Google could try its hands at the foldable market. Further, Chinese OEMs like OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi are also said to introduce their folding phones in 2021. For the unaware, Xiaomi showed its own take on the foldable segment this January. Plus, OPPO recently showcased its concept X, so there’s a lot to be excited about. The phone features a flexible display and structural stacking, bringing users more natural interactive experience.

The latest development comes from Ross Young, the founder and lead analyst at Display Search and DSCC. He took to Twitter to reveal that in the second half of 2021, several OEMs will launch their foldable smartphones. He said that Samsung will announce at least three models, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo will announce four phones in total. Moreover, Google is also expected to join the list of manufacturers for foldable phones. It is said to announce one model as well. Google developing a foldable phone rumor has been there for a while. Back in March 2019, we first heard that Google may be working on a foldable smartphone

In another tweet he says that there will be no Z Fold Lite, which is surprising since several rumors have pointed towards the presence of the device. Even support page for the device was spotted on Samsung India’s official website. It was rumored to launch in the first quarter of 2021 with a $1,100 price tag. Instead, as per Ross, Samsung could announce a new Z Flip Lite in late 2021. The South Korean company is likely already working on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, which are tipped to be announced in the third quarter of 2021.

Pocketnow Daily: Dear Intel: Apple Was Just Getting Started! *NEW Apple Silicon Leaks* (video)

Apple’s M1 MacBook Pro, Samsung Galaxy S10+ and more devices are on sale today

Let’s kick the week off with some pretty familiar deals, that are still awesome if we’re being honest. The new M1 MacBook Pro is still $50 off, leaving the entry level, Silver option for $1250 shipped. That’s actually the color I use and which I recommend most given how it ages. You can also get the discount if you go for the 512GB of SSD variant, leaving that for $1450. The 16in MacBook Pro is also $200 off, that leaves the 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD model for $2200 shipped. And okay, let’s move on to your favorite Samsung trade-in deals because I find it crazy that they’re still available. Starting off with the Note 20 Series, where you can find the Note 20 for $450 and the Ultra for $750. The S20 Series is also on discount, and you can get my favorite, the S20+ for $740 or the Ultra for $940. Finally, the Z Fold 2 is still at a $1000 which I find to be the better deal along with the Note. Again, for all of these you need an eligible device for trade-in but, they’re still pretty crazy. Finally, the Apple Watch SE is $20 off, leaving it at $309 shipped. We have more deals on other Samsung products like the S10 and the Buds, other Apple Watches and more in the links below.

Google Assistant-enabled smart displays and speakers can now stream Apple Music

Now let’s talk about the recent moves that Apple Music has just made. I mean, Apple One was interesting enough for me to be willing to pay for it, but it seems that now Apple might have added a nail to its HomePod coffin. Last week, Apple Music rolled out support to Amazon’s A Speakers and now, Apple Music it’s making its way to Google Assistant enabled smart devices. Starting today, you can ask Google to play Apple Music on your Nest devices, that includes the Nest Audio, Hub Max and others. Now, the service is rolling out in the US, UK, Japan, Germany and France as of today but they are planning for support in other regions as well. Of course, you’ll have to pair your account with your Google account and then you should be good to go. And yes, I do agree that it’s not like if the HomePod Mini doesn’t have advantages, like Privacy which we still haven’t been able to confirm, and also sound quality, but at its price, I’m even debating paying for Spotify anymore.

LG’s rollable phone could soon be a reality

Now, let’s talk about LG’s Project Explorer as, the company has done a great job putting themselves back in the spotlight thanks to devices like the Wing. We know that the Wing was just the first phone that was a part of this project, with the next one reportedly being that rollable phone dubbed the “LG Slide”. According to a tipster on Twitter, the LG Slide was just spotted in South Korea’s carrier intranet database. This revealed the carrier and unlocked model number, hinting to the fact that we’re getting close to the actual launch. Going from what we’ve heard from past reports, this phone is expected to bring a rollable OLED display which extends to give you a bigger canvas, and other trademarks hint that we might get stylus support. We’re expecting this to launch sometime in 2021, with multiple reports claiming that it is coming in March so we’ll see. Let’s just hope they add a flagship processor to match the flagship price this time.

We have leaked details of the upcoming OPPO Find X3 Pro

Let’s move on to OPPO as, we’re expecting the company to launch three different phones in Q1 of next year according to nonother than Evan Blass. He claims that the most important one will be the Find X3 Pro which is codenamed Fussi. This phone will bring the new Snapdragon 888 SoC and OPPO plans to market it with something along the lines of “Awaken Color”. This is because one of the main, if not the main feature will be the new display which is a 6.7in 1440p display with a 525ppi. It also has end-to-end 10-bit color support along with an adaptive-dynamic frame rate, from 10-120Hz, kind of like the Note 20 Ultra. Now, when it comes to the cameras, apparently we’ll be getting two 50MP image sensors from Sony, one for the primary and one for the ultra wide, as well as a 13MP telephoto and a 3MP macro camera.. Yay. It will be capable of 25x zoom which will also be a key point for OPPO,. Evan also mentions that when it comes to design, it will be 8mm thick and 190 grams, and it will bring a ceramic matte-frosted glass at the back in black and blue color ways at launch. Other specs also include a 4500 mAh battery and 65W charging. Again, OPPO should announce these in Q1 of 2020, but they will most likely release until Q2.

Apple is keen on periscope cameras, but they might not appear on iPhones until 2023

Now let’s talk Apple and camera capabilities for iPhones, as even if the 12 Pro Max is great, it’s not really that much better than everything else out there. So far we’ve had two different reports claiming that we’ll be getting a periscope lens on iPhones and now, this third one makes it look like it’s actually going to happen. This report comes from the Elec and it reiterates that Cupertino is looking to improve their zoom features by using SEMCO periscope lenses that could offer up to 10x optical zoom but, it gives somewhat of a larger timeline, suggesting it could be either in 2022 or 2023. Just to recap, Apple has been patenting solutions for periscopic zoom lens since 2014 but, the company has never actually put one on the iPhone. Now that they’ve been able to do away with the patent issues that held them back, it looks like they’re getting ready. Last week we talked about how they are already in talks with suppliers, with SEMCO and LG probably supplying these modules. And we’re going to go with Ming Chi Kuo’s timeline which claims that we’ll be getting these with the 2022 iPhones.

Story of the day:

Ambitious Apple prepares a 32-core chip for high-end Macs

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Apple Silicon Macs, because if you thought the M1 was great, Apple is clearly not even close to being done. So far, we’ve got three devices running on the M1 processor which is already pretty powerful but, we assume it’s also the source for certain limitations, like only having two USB C ports, and it looks like Apple wants to go ALL OUT with their upcoming releases. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is making a series of new Mac processors that is aimed at outperforming Intel’s best. The report claims that the next two series of Apple chips will be more ambitious than expected, with more CPU cores and even more GPU cores. So alright, the M1 comes with an 8 core CPU and either 7 or 8 core GPUs. Well this report claims that Cupertino is currently testing 16 and 32-core models. But wait there’s more, they’re also working on chips with up to 128 cores for either late 2021 or 2022. Currently they are working on a processor design with 16 high performance CPU cores which might make it to the upcoming MacBook Pros we’re expecting. So if you think about it, we’re expecting new MacBook Pros, new iMacs and possibly a new Mac Pro that could be half the size of the current one. And with this report saying that if Apple delivers they will significantly outpace the latest Intel chips, these new computers should be on a whole different league when compared to Intel’s Xeon or AMDs Threadrippers.

We have leaked details of the upcoming OPPO Find X3 Pro

OPPO has been getting attention as the company is expected to launch its new flagship in the first quarter of 2021. Just last month, we saw the company teasing the new OPPO Find X3 Pro will feature end-to-end 10-bit color support with its new Full-path Color Management System, as well as HEIF (High-Efficiency Image Format) support and full DCI-P3 wide color gamut. Now, we have new information from a well-known leaker that makes the device even more compelling.

A new report from Evan Blass over at Voice, gives us details of the upcoming OPPO Find X3 Pro, codenamed Fussi. He believes that this will be the most interesting device of the upcoming Find X3 trio, as it will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G processor and a new ‘full-path color management system. Blass also mentions OPPO’s plans to market the Find X3 Pro, as it may deliver great color and the same adaptive dynamic frame rate as the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

“Oppo plans to market the FX3P with a tagline along the lines of “Awaken Color,” as a way to draw attention to its end-to-end 10-bit color support. What that means, essentially, is that its 6.7-inch, 1440 x 3216 display (525ppi) — with the same adaptive dynamic frame rate of 10Hz to 120Hz as Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra — will be able to display images captured by the quad-camera array in their maximum native 1.07-billion colors.”

The OPPO Find X3 Pro is also expected to feature two 50MP IMS766 image sensors from Sony. The first one would be the primary wide-angle module, while the second lens would be intended for ultra-wide capture. We would also see a 13MP telephoto camera with 2X optical zoom and a 3MP macro camera that’s expected to deliver 25X zoom. This last camera would have lights circling its lens, allowing it to be used as a microscope, a feature that will get significant attention in the phone’s marketing.

OPPO’s new flagship is also expected to include a dual cell 4500mAh battery, with support for 65-watt SuperVOOC 2.0 wired charging and 30-watt VOOC Air wireless charging. It’s NFC radio will also include some interesting features, as its module will possess a dual-body antenna design, which will allow tap-to-pay regardless of the phone’s orientation.

Oppo patent shows a smartphone concept with a removable rear camera module

The Oppo N1 packing a rotating camera module was launched back in 2013, and was soon followed by the Oppo N3 that featured a more advanced motorized camera hub. Years later, Asus tried a similar iteration with the Asus ZenFone 6 and later with the ZenFone 7 Pro in 2020. It now appears that Oppo is back to the drawing board and is experimenting with a new design that involves a fully detachable camera module. Yes, a camera module that separates from the main smartphone body, something Oppo’s patent filed before WIPO explains in detail.

As you can see in the image above, the entire camera module packing multiple lenses, sensors, and the LED flash can be detached. The camera module has a battery pack of its own, allowing it to function as a remotely controlled image capture and video recording device. You can place the camera module at any place and remotely capture images by playing with the camera app installed on the smartphone. That iteration can prove to be quite helpful for capturing videos, as you want to worry about your hands shaking and resulting in a video full of jerky movements.

Hey Oppo, make it real please!

Additionally, the removable camera module has a USB connector of its own that you can plug into the smartphone’s USB port for clicking selfies and making video calls. The camera module’s USB plug bends 90-degrees so that when the camera module is put back in the housing slot at the back, the connector doesn’t protrude or pose any hindrance.

A removable camera module that can also take care of selfie duties will eliminate the need for a front camera housed in a notch or hole-punch cutout, helping achieve a clean full-screen design. However, this a patent we’re talking about, which means things are still in the concept stage and Oppo might never make a commercially available device with a removable camera module. But hey, this is one cool concept that we’d love to see become reality.

Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO and more hit by import hurdles in India: Report

According to a report, Apple’s latest iPhone 12 lineup, Xiaomi devices and other gadgets had a slow down in import due to India’s “tight control of quality clearances for electronic goods from China.” Reportedly, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which typically processes applications within 15 days is now taking up to two months and longer. This is likely to affect the brands’ plans for upcoming devices in India.

The latest development comes from Reuters, which reports that BIS started delaying approvals for China-made imports of devices like smartphones, smartwatches, and laptops. It is all part of the fallout from deteriorating ties with China after a border clash in June that left 20 Indian soldiers dead. It was only after that that the Indian government went on a Chinese app-ban spree, and banned apps like TikTok, CamScanner, and more, the latest of them being the popular game PUBG Mobile.

BIS tests and certifies product applications in India.

The report says that Apple India executives called on BIS to speed its approval up when the new iPhone 12 was caught in the delays. It did so by assuring that the company would continue to expand its assembly operations in India. We have reached out to Apple for a comment on the matter. For the unaware, Apple has assembly operations in India. But the iPhone 12 lineup is imported from China, where contract manufacturers make the bulk of Apple’s devices.

According to the report, around 1080 applications to BIS for laptops, tablets, and other devices are pending. Plus, 669 of those are waiting for more than 20 days. These include applications for devices from China-based factories of Wistron, Compal Electronics, and Hangzhou Hikvision. The BIS has also delayed smartwatch imports from Xiaomi and OPPO. We have also reached out to Xiaomi for a comment.

Meanwhile, an ARMWorldwide (company that manages Amazfit brand in India) executive confirmed on Twitter that the delay in the launch of new smartwatches from multiple brands is due to the delay in BIS approvals since August 2020.

“While the BIS is delaying approvals for products like smartwatches, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is pushing companies to make these devices in India,” said one of the sources as per the report. It adds that Xiaomi was denied the special license to import roughly 30,000 units of TVs after India’s trade ministry restricted inbound shipments of TVs by requiring importers to get a special license in July 2020. Plus, Samsung has faced similar import hurdles.

Pocketnow Daily: Samsung Galaxy S21 Certified & Crazy Black Friday Deals! (video)

These are the best Samsung deals for Black Friday

The official news today begin with deals, but just a heads up, we’re gonna spend the next couple of shows focusing a lot on these in more than one segment, as there is just too much given the holidays. For all you Samsung fans in the audience, this one is for you as these continue to be crazy deals if you have an eligible device to trade in. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is available for the same $1000 we mentioned yesterday, but now in both color options and the customizable hinge. The Note 20 Ultra is available for $550 and the regular Note 20 for a crazy $250. Moving on to the S Series, you can get the S20 for $390, the S20+ for $540 and the Ultra for $740, might makes them a tough pick given the crazy deal for the Note 20 Ultra. To end with Samsung, you can also get the S20 FE for $140 so, again, all these deals apply if you have an eligible device to trade in. Sticking to Samsung and their trade-ins, the Galaxy Watch 3 is also available for $140 and the Titanium version is available for $300. Pretty much half of for both of them. We also have deals on the Galaxy Buds, the Watch Active 2 and more in the description.

Samsung Chromebooks, Razer gaming accessories, and more on sale

Now let’s continue with segment 2, as companies keep rolling with the fact that we shouldn’t have to wait until Black Friday to get some good stuff. Let’s begin with audio products, starting with Sony’s new WH Mark 4 over the ear headphones which are $72 off, that leaves them for $278 shipped on Amazon. If you want earbuds, the WF Mark 3s are available for $62 off, that leaves those for $168 shipped. Sony’s Amazon Exclusive variant for some other over the ear headphones with a really complicated name are also $112 off, leaving those for a crazy $88 shipped. Finally, Amazon and Razer are going at it with their own Black Friday sale. For example. The Razer Huntsman Elite keyboard, which is one of my favorites, is $50 off, leaving it at $150. The Deathadder V2 is $20 off meaning you can get it for $50 and there’s a ton more in the links in the description, along with other Chromebook deals. No worries, I know you’re also looking forward to Apple deals, so tune in throughout the week as we’ll have those also detailed in one of the segments.

POCO M3 with 6000mAh battery, SD 662 SoC debuts in Europe

Now let’s switch to official news as another company having a great year is clearly POCO. They’ve done multiple launches so far, and today is yet another day for that. The company is back at it again as they just launched the new M3. It features a 6.53in FHD+ display, it’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662, 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of expandable storage. It runs Android 10 out of the box, and it also brings other features like dual speakers, a headphone jack (yes, that’s a feature now) and a dual SIM slot. Now, when it comes to the cameras, you get a triple lens setup that consists of a 48MP main sensor along with two 2MP sensors and the module kinda looks like the one on the Cyberpunk Edition of the OnePlus 8T. Why should you know about it? Well it sports a crazy 6000 mAh battery. What’s even crazier is that all that starts for just the equivalent of $149 but, you can get it for $129 this Black Friday.

The Galaxy Z Flip2 will not be unveiled alongside the Galaxy S21, will launch after Q1 instead

Now let’s switch gears to Samsung, but this time for the usual batch of rumors that typically happens when we’re already close to a launch. There’s been multiple reports and hints that the Galaxy S line will launch very early in the year, either January or February (more on that later). But, another product we’re expecting to come out with the S line is the next Z Flip but it looks like that won’t be the case. According to a new report from the Elec, we will be getting the Z Flip 2 until after Q1 and it won’t be joining the S21 line for January’s Unpacked Event. Apparently one reason this could happen is because Samsung is trying to spread out their device launches to keep them from driving sales to each one, especially since we won’t be getting a Note next year as, the S21 Ultra and the Z Fold 3 are getting an S Pen. Sammy will reportedly have 6M S21’s ready for the initial batch, the same as last year because Samsung is expecting foldables to drive more sales. Now, I wonder how they plan to get more sales, if not by dropping the price tag. We’ll see.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy S21 has received BIS certification

And finally, the hottest news today have to do with Samsung, again, but more specifically on more details that pertain to the Samsung Galaxy S21 line. We keep getting more clues that this device will launch earlier than expected. The Galaxy S21 was recently certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards, which makes it pretty evident that Samsung is gearing up for that launch. Sadly, this exact certification does not give us any details on the phone internals and only the regular S21 appeared in the database. However, let’s still recap on the Ultra’s leaked specs as it’s probably going to be the one stealing all of the headlines. We’re expecting a 6.8in WQHD+ display with adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. It’ll be powered by the Snapdragon 875 or the Exynos 2100, a 5000 mAh battery, running One UI 3.1 with 5G and all the bells and whistles you could expect. When it comes to the cameras, you’re getting the 108MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra wide, and a two 10MP lenses, one with 3X optical zoom and one with 10X. And of course, this phone is also rumored to bring S Pen support. We’re expecting the event to happen some time around January 14th and the launch around the 29th.

Samsung Galaxy S20+, latest M1 13-inch MacBook Pro and more devices on sale

You already know how this goes so as per usual, let’s begin today’s show with deals. Starting off with the Samsung Galaxy S20+ which is $250 off, leaving the entry level variant for $950 shipped which is actually cheaper than what you would pay for the regular S20. The Galaxy Note 10+ is also $250 off, leaving the 256GB of storage variant for $850. The latest M1, 13in MacBook Pro is $49 off, that leaves the entry-level variant for $1250 and trust me, that thing is worth it. We also have discounts on Logitech Peripherals, like in the case of the G903 gaming mouse, which is $22 off, leaving it at $128 shipped. Finally, the Galaxy S10 Lite is $145 off, leaving that at $500 shipped. We have more deals on other Logitech products, Samsung Gaming monitors and more, in the links in the description.

OPPO Find X3 series to come with system-wide 10-bit color support

OPPO got on the spotlight yesterday thanks to their new concept smartphone and the other things we got at their INNO Day Conference. Well, Day 2 just happened in China and, they just confirmed that they are working on the Find X3 Series. Now, we don’t have much information on what we’re getting here but, one thing they did say is that we will be getting a native 10-bit display on this phone. OPPO says that they’re R&D team is preparing new algorithms in areas like distortion-correction, multi-frame noise reduction and extreme super-resolution. It will support Digital Overlap HDR mode. Check out the links in the description for other technical details they mentioned but, the Find X2 Pro already had probably my favorite display of the year, so we’re not going to complain about it getting better.

Google Pay app gets a redesign and some new features

Now let’s talk about Google as the company has just unveiled a revamp to their Google Pay app through a livestream today. Basically it delivers a complete redesign. It now shows you friends and family to which you can pay directly and nearby businesses that accept Google Pay as well in the top right corner. You also get other features like payment history at certain establishments as well as a new Explore Tab and a new Insights Tab. Google’s objective is for you to manage your money better with a budget feature in the Insights tab and they are also adding support for Plaid which lets you connect your bank or credit card. Another cool feature is letting you import pictures of receipts from Google Photos, that is if you’re still using it after the dilemma. There’s a ton of other features coming to the app so, check out the links below and FYI, the update is currently rolling out in the US to both Google Play and iOS.

Google offers an optimized version of Chrome for Macs with Apple’s M1 chip

Chrome gets a huge performance boost and a useful tab search tool

And since we started with Google, Let’s talk about Google Chrome as, the company is bringing some very interesting and welcome changes. Yesterday they announced v87, which is currently rolling out, and it gives Chrome its biggest boost in performance in years. You get upgrades like it opening 25% faster and page loading speed is going up by 7%, all while using less RAM and cutting down on the power consumption. They’re also adding other things like tab search, action buttons for better productivity and more. Something else we just got is an optimized version of Chrome for the new M1 Macs which we are testing as, the regular Chrome app quits pretty often if you’re not on the optimized version. Now, if you go to their website, you might not see the optimized one so if you’re rocking one, make sure to check out the link in our description to get it. So yeah, we hope Chrome works out all of their resource issues as they have been working on it for quite some time now.

Samsung might be working on a cheaper foldable phone called Galaxy Z Flip Lite

Samsung has really shifted their strategy towards foldables as of late and with those rumors of the Galaxy Note disappearing it makes a lot of sense. Well, a couple of days ago we covered a list of Samsung flagships that we should expect next year and a couple of them were cheaper foldables, one of them being a Z Fold FE and a a Z Flip Lite. Well, according to a new tweet from Ross Young, they are no longer hearing about a Z Fold Lite or FE anymore but apparently the Z Flip Lite is still on the table. What’s kind of impressive here is that Samsung will still be using their UTG technology on this phone, despite it being a cheaper device. This means that it won’t be as fragile as the original Galaxy Fold and it ensures some longevity. Of course this is still a rumor though, we are somewhat close to the Spring already which is when we got the original Z Flip. The thing about it is, we know that a lot of you guys are interested on foldables but the price tag is simply a deal breaker so, would you guys like a Z Flip Lite?

Story of the day:

Apple is halving its commission rate to 15% for most developers

And finally for the hottest news today, we have something that’s oddly for the ban section which Diego still hasn’t made graphics for. Well not really but, almost part of the ban section let’s move on to Apple. If you remember, the whole Apple vs Epic situation started because of Apple’s infamous 30% tax, which Epic Games wanted them to waive for customers to pay the actual value at which they sell their cosmetics. Well, you already know how that went but, it seems like Apple is doing something for smaller developers through their new “Small Business Program”. Cupertino just announced that they are lowering their commission to 15% but, it is strictly for developers that earned $1M or less in the previous calendar year. Apple mentions that this will benefit the vast majority of developers that sell digital goods and other services on the App Store, with this new Business Program launching on January 1st, 2021. They also said how small businesses are the backbone of the global economy and the beating heart of innovation and opportunity in communities around the world. For developers who surpass the $1M threshold, they will still get the 30% commission but, if somehow they fall below that $1M mark by the end of the year, they will be able to apply and get the 15% through the program. So, it looks like what Epic Games was doing did work, just not for them.

OPPO Find X3 series to come with system-wide 10-bit color support

OPPO has confirmed the launch of the Find X3 series in 2021. The new flagship smartphones will offer end-to-end 10-bit color support with its new Full-path Colour Management System. It brings support for HEIF (High-Efficiency Image Format) and full DCI-P3 wide color gamut. This support extends to offer more accurate colors. The Find X3 is claimed to be the ‘first Android’ smartphone to offer this functionality.

On the second day of the OPPO INNO Day 2020 conference, the company announced its new development about the Find X3 series in China. The new Full-path Color Management System will offer a native 10-bit display on the OPPO Find X3 series. While OPPO has previously advertised phones to offer a 10-bit display, they actually featured 8-bit displays. They actually mimic a 10-bit performance. For reference, the OPPO Find X2 series has embedded 8-bit panels.

OPPO says its R&D team also prepared algorithms in areas such as distortion correction, multi-frame noise reduction, and perceptual extreme super-resolution. It will support image sensors featuring Digital Overlap (DOL) HDR mode. It is likely to image results even when captured against bright light since it synthesizes different exposure conditions into an image.

As per the company, the Full-path Color Management System will deliver an “outstanding viewing experience” and bring “authentic and accurate color reproduction.” It will also support HEIF (High-Efficiency Image Format) to save storage space. The new system is said to have designed to cover all steps including image acquisition to computation, encoding, storage, and decoding.
