Some Touch Disease repairs will be warrantied by Apple for $149 deductible

Apple has finally acknowledged the pain point that a few of its customers are facing and are finally offering an olive branch to iPhone 6 Plus owners fighting “Touch Disease“.

In addressing the issue, the company determined that users were suffering from grayed-out pixels and lack of Multi-Touch response due to the device having been “dropped multiple times on a hard surface and then [taking on] further stress.”

While iPhone 6 owners have also complained to Apple about Touch Disease, it is only the Plus-model users that will benefit from a fee reduction for first-party repairs: $149. The screen must not have suffered from cracks or further issues beyond the above symptoms. Users who already got repairs from an Apple-approved dealer will get compensation up to that price point.

iFixit is reporting through a statement to TechCrunch that $149 is currently the typical market price for a third-party Touch Disease repair.

It doesn’t help much the class action suit that is still apparently on against Apple for having so far treated the problem to their customers’ dissatisfaction. But it’s something from Apple. Let’s just not let this be the standard of care we come to expect from it.

How to fix anything that’s wrong with your Android

Yesterday we talked about how phones seem to degrade over time, and some of the reasons why the physical components do, in point of fact, fail with use (and abuse). We didn’t talk about software decay, and why your phone seems to get slower and slower with use. No fear! That’s what another article is for — how about this one: how to fix whatever is wrong with your Android. Your Android, whether it’s a smartphone or a tablet, is a physical device.
