OnePlus Rumors, Samsung Strategies, and would you date a Canadian? | #PNWeekly 226

Editor’s Note: Since neither of us were able to edit the show thanks to extenuating conditions, we had some help this week comes from Brittany Gervais. The sound in this show is a little more “raw” as compared to previous shows, but it’s thanks to her that we have a podcast in your feed this week!

Apologies in advance for that, but we hope you enjoy the show!

We’re getting confirmations on new OnePlus hardware. More rumors are popping up on Galaxy S8 hardware. We reveal that mystery Windows phone from last week, and a Canadian dating app saw a huge influx of new users, for no reason…

What could LG V20 S trademark in Europe mean?

Europe is assured not to see the LG V20 in its most common form direct from retailers. Heck, even UK unlocked smartphone retailer Clove wasn’t able to snag the phone through its backchannel negotiations.

But a version of the V20 could be headed the continent’s way anyways. That’s at least what we’re speculating with a trademark appearance at the EU’s Intellectual Property Office.

An trademark protection application from LG for the “V20 S” was filed yesterday. The word mark can apply to “Smartphones; Portable communications apparatus” among other wireless equipment.

No associated leaks have been dug up just yet on the V20 S. We do know that there was an LG G5 SE that featured a lesser Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 than the 820 on regular G5 units. On the other hand, there’s an off-chance that this could be European branding for the smaller, water-resistant V34 that’s currently exclusively sold in Japan.

We’ll have to wait and see if this trademark gets activated — the holiday season is essentially upon us.
