Vine Camera will remain as a six-second clip creator for Twitter purposes

The demise of Twitter’s social video site Vine is nearing. The network itself will be kept alive as an archive, but the servers won’t take any more six-second clips in.

What users can now do is download their Vines through the app or website. Vine will also push notifications out, telling followers to follow their favorite creators on Twitter.

One of the big new developments this weekend, though, is the fact that the Vine app will transition into Vine Camera. The modus operandi is the same for a Vine — composite short clips for videos up to six seconds long. The only big change is that users will be encouraged to either post the movie to Twitter or keep them in their picture roll.

Vine first announced its sunsetting in October. Twitter reportedly tried selling itself just prior to that word. The transition is in January.
