Acer announces the affordable Iconia Tab 8 W

Microsoft and its partners are really making a compelling case for the reasons why you shouldn’t buy a tablet running a mobile operating system. Just a few months ago we saw some very affordable Dell Venue tablets running a full version of Windows 8 and with price tags that even make the iPad mini look expensive, but this wasn’t the end of it. As IFA 2014 continues to wow us with more products for this fall, Acer has just raised its ...

Microsoft to fix Surface Pro 3 heating issues “soon”

Microsoft has gained some decent fame with its launch of the Surface Pro 3. Surely it still hasn’t proven that this tablet is attractive enough to replace the computers and tablets of most of the market, but we do praise the company for doing one of ...

T-Mobile Lumia 2520 still looks like it’s happening (but is it too late?)

Nokia’s first Windows tablet, the Lumia 2520, launched last fall, and we quickly saw carriers in the States lining up to offer the 2520 to their subscribers – well, at least AT&T and Verizon were interested. A whole lot of time has passed since then, and we’ve seen plenty of other Windows tablets emerge, but the ...

Just how much has Surface cost Microsoft?

The initial launch of Microsoft’s Surface tablets wasn’t without its upsets: one year in, we were looking at close to a billion dollars in losses for Microsoft due to unsold Surface RT inventory. But since then we’ve seen the arrival of the Surface 2 family, not to mention the Surface Pro 3 earlier this year – are they faring any better? Well, we’ve heard good things about Pro 3 sales, and ...

Is Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 OneNote parody video a hit or a miss?

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 was a bit of a surprise when it launched back in May, and despite the tablet’s relatively early arrival, hitting the scene just eight months following the debut of the Surface Pro 2, the Pro 3 sure appears to be doing quite well; what Microsoft has shared about Pro 3 sales, at least, indicates that consumer interest is stronger than it had been for earlier Pro models. Maybe that success means that Microsoft doesn’t have to try so hard promoting the ...

Microsoft acknowledges aborted Surface Mini launch in earnings report

For a moment in time, it seemed like such a sure thing: following the first two generations of full-sized Surface tablets, this past spring it finally looked like Microsoft was going to introduce a more compact Surface Mini. In the days leading up to the company’s May event, the Mini was the clear favorite for the new hardware likely to be featured, but at the last minute

Surface Pro 3 on the road: A weekend with Microsoft’s new hybrid

Traveling can be a harrowing experience. Traveling with a child, even more so. Traveling with a child while testing a new device can be a disaster waiting to happen. That’s the situation I found myself in this past weekend. Full disclosure – I wasn’t traveling very far nor for very long, and I was with my son who my wife and I call “the easy one” and I’m not completely ignorant to the ways of the Surface, so I liked my odds, but still.Since I was traveling a few hundred miles to nearby Indianapolis for a quick two-day excursion, I decided to go all-in with the ...

Microsoft’s official Surface Pro 3 user guide littered with Surface Mini references

Leading up to last month’s Surface Pro 3 launch event, we were very much expecting to see the Surface Mini, instead. Really, that’s what we expected the main focus to be, and it wasn’t until just about a week prior to the announcement that we started getting the sense that this was going to be a Pro 3 shindig. If we’re to believe the rumors, there’s a good reason we were getting that Mini vibe, and

Microsoft dials-back pricing on Surface Pro 2 models

Just about one month back, we saw Microsoft unveil its latest tablet offerings. And while most of us were expecting something along the lines of a Surface Mini, Microsoft went and threw us for a loop, instead using its launch event to introduce the Surface Pro 3, just seven months following the release of the Surface Pro 2. That’s very much some speedy iPad 3/iPad 4-style timing, and the short lifespan of the Pro 2 seems to have left Microsoft with an abundance of stock.
