Maybe HTC Ocean Note will come on January 12 after all?

HTC has something special “for U” on January 12. We still do not officially know what it is, but there have been guesses and speculative jabs at what might be up for the day.

According to Taiwanese outlet ePrice, there’s growing probability that at least one of the products that will be showcased will be a device that’s been codenamed “Ocean Note”. It is rumored that the January 12 date has strong support and that sales will begin before January 28, the start of the Lunar New Year holidays.

The HTC Ocean concept was leaked in a designer’s portfolio video a few months ago that portrays a device with hardware design similar to what HTC has done for its One series and the HTC 10. Hardware buttons have been replaced with touch-capacitive siderails and “Sense Touch” software interface that cleverly takes advantage of them.

Three such devices are rumored to take on the concept, with the “Note” being one of them. The two others, “Master” and “Smart,” are presumed to be the main variant and a lighter-duty one, respectively. All three may come to market under different series brands — the “Master” will be in the vein of the One (10?) series, the “Smart” will be in the Desire series while the “Note” will get a new umbrella.

It isn’t clear if the trio will be announced or released simultaneously, but all three are supposedly scheduled to be revealed within the first quarter.

It’s also unprecedented for HTC to make such an early play at the smartphone market, but it could find some support in drafting distance from Samsung and LG product launches in the spring, a new brand and a “Note” phablet solution that may fill the void of the Note 7 and beat the LG V20’s sales performance. It definitely needs the support after another year of poor shipment numbers.

We’ll have to see how much of this holds up, but we wouldn’t push too much doubt here.

Can this concept HTC 11 make sense as company rebounds?

That’s right, we’re talking about an unfounded, unsubstantiated concept smartphone. And the “HTC 11” is certainly a concept to behold of within itself.

This soon-to-be flagship is coming at a time where the Taiwanese manufacturer is just starting to recover from a badly-performing release in 2015 and a rumor that it would sell its smartphone business just recently. The market for mobile seems to be tapped out and has little or no room for HTC at the moment, but it could make a bold material argument for consumers as it tries to break even on the balance sheets.

So, what does this concept from Chinese social media site Weibo contain? A 5.5-inch quad HD screen, a Snapdragon 835 processor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, an 8-megapixel selfie camera and a dual-camera system (both sensor at 12 megapixels of resolution), a 3,700mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support and a bezelless design.

Unlike this phone’s competitors, we have heard little from the industrial supply chain about the HTC 11 — no recent rumors about its name, its parts, its design. The 11 may actually be to the “Ocean” concept leaked months ago that showed off a device similar in design to the HTC 10, but featured no physical buttons and touch-receptive siderails that complemented a revised Sense UI software interface. Three devices may come with that design paradigm.

Tech circles have been left wondering how real anything from HTC can be nowadays. We can only provide a generic “time will tell” platitude, but we don’t even know how much time the company will stack before it releases the damn thing.

Release date for Honor Magic concept phone is December 16

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

It’s late in 2016 and all these Chinese manufacturers have started to get conceptual on us. And no, not like those gastropubs that inject nitrogen into ground meat and ground peas into dust for you to inhale.

One of those OEMs is said to be Huawei subsidiary Honor. A trip to its Chinese site these days will lead you to a splash GIF, showing off a world of mysticism and whatnot, along with teaser text to expect big things with the “Honor Magic” on December 16.

Now, what could Honor be talking about? And why is Honor, not Huawei, bringing this concept phone to us?

Well, it’s believed by Weibo tech talkers that Huawei wanted to reduce its risk in introducing what’s rumored to be a phone that has a curved display from Samsung, a battery that fills up halfway with five minutes on the charger and, most importantly, no camera nor speaker on the device body. It set the launch of this “Magic” apart from the company’s more traditional Mate 9 releases and moved its domain to the edgier Honor brand.

We’re not entirely sure if we’re talking about a complete ecosystem of modular, attachable accessories. Perhaps these limited accessories are freewheeeling (and none of those factors are mutually exclusive from each other), but if the rumors pull through, then we are definitely out of the range of the Moto Z.

Sit tight, this is going to be a crazy December… at least, in China.

Evan Blass posts thing we’re vaguely relating to the Surface Phone [UPDATE]

Mobile leaks teller Evan Blass has posted a thing. It may be a leak. It may be a concept phone. Maybe it’s both. We don’t know.

Whatever it is, it looks like a wafer-thin Windows 10 Mobile phone with minimal bezels and made of matte materials and, potentially, “Powered by a laptop-class Intel processor”.

“Would this have blown your mind?,” Blass asks.

No answers, just questions — especially as we have no idea who and how credible Blass’s source is: did this design circulate from and around Microsoft? Is this phone design currently in consideration by the team? Is this a fan-made render? Are we really just dealing with a USB-C port for I/O? How about the chip? Why Intel and not ARM, as Terry Myerson says is important to Microsoft for mobile? Celeron? Core i7? Skylake? Kaby Lake? Maybe it’s a Haswell? Any dates? Times?

What’s your favorite food, Evan?

Obviously, we’re covering this because of Blass’s track record for material leaks and because of the inferred subject matter — the Surface Phone — of what could be Microsoft’s next first-party smartphone.

UpdateApparently, it is not a concept. While we’re not clear on what company is behind these lifestyle pictures, Blass claims that we’re dealing with something closer to a real product… at least for now.

Xiaomi Mi MIX sells out in 10 seconds

A super-powered, meticulously-designed concept phone that’s nearly all-screen and no sham has sold out in a fifth of the time that the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 did.

The company launched sales for the first batch of Mi MIX smartphones at 10:00am in China and they were all gone by 10:00:10am. The phone comes in two memory configurations: 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for ¥3,499 ($518) and 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for ¥3,999 ($592).

It is not known how many units were available, but our expectations were set low in the first place as yields were promised to be low because of its envelope-pushing design. Another batch will be out in China on November 8.

What do you think of this Apple iPhone 7 concept?

You may remember Ivo Marić, the CAD artist behind what we though was the best set of Galaxy Note 5 renders on July 18; sure they might be far from what the device might end up looking, but unofficial concept renders often are (and sometimes are spot on). Now we’re looking at another concept render from the same artists as he envisions Apple’s 2016 smartphone, the iPhone 7.A 2.5D glass protects a Quad HD display and an Apple A10 chip powers everything; a 16MP camera will be able to capture all ...

The HTC Aero is rumored to be the Taiwanese company’s next smartphone, a company that’s not doing as well as expected on the market. It can also be the phone that can save HTC (or at least stop ...

Renders compare the iPad Air Plus with 12-inch MacBook Air

A couple of years ago, it would’ve been almost impossible to imagine Apple experimenting with anything outside its comfort zone. That said, the same company that was reluctant to launch a mini tablet, did with the iPad mini, and the same company that denied the need for a bigger iPhone, launched two of them with the

Samsung Galaxy F render is not official, but looks good, don’t you think?

Ever since we heard the first mentions of a future possible F-series from Samsung, there have been a lot of rumors regarding this alleged “premium” series of phones from South Korea.
