Android Nougat for ZTE Axon 7 is delayed ‘a little’ in Germany, still coming this quarter

Google opens pre-orders for snazzier Crimson and Snow Daydream View

While Google arguably made the right call finding inspiration in “the clothes you wear” for the comfortable, breathable Daydream View, it felt a little odd to pair the “Really Blue” or “Quite Black” Pixel and Pixel XL phones with the somewhat bland-looking “Slate” VR headset.

But if fashion was more important for you than getting the immersive fabric-manufactured goggles free of charge with Pixel pre-orders, it’s now time to rejoice. Deeply red and fairly white Daydream View flavors are officially available at the Google Store with estimated shipping by December 8.

Actually dubbed “Crimson” and “Snow”, the new colors add a welcome touch of flashy charm to the original fully gray virtual reality content viewer. The rose-coated variant in particular stands out, and may get its initial inventory depleted before long, what with its snowy white accents and all.

It goes without saying that all three models cost $79 stateside, supporting the Pixel, Pixel XL, Moto Z, Moto Z Force and a slew of upcoming ultra-high-end Android handhelds with identical specs, including motion controllers out the box at no extra charge.

Unreleased HBO GO VR app for Daydream available on Play Store

Virtual reality content has sprouted out of every media orifice. 360-degree cameras have come into use between indie filmmakers, journalistic outlets and the entertainment titans.

Unfortunately, most of what you’ll see on the HBO GO VR app, available on the Google Play Store to be used on the Daydream VR platform, is not 360-degree content.

Yes, if you use HBO GO, you can get HBO GO VR. If you don’t have HBO GO, you can download the app and get a month to try it out for free. You’ll be able to view rectangular content like Game of Thrones, Westworld, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

The big deal about this being an “unreleased” app is that it’s basically a beta test — expect bugs to hang around.

Moto Z officially gets Android Nougat, Daydream VR

As seen on Reddit last week, the updates came by the few to those with the Droid. But soon, they will make their way in waves across all Moto Z and Moto Z Force handsets.

Motorola has just announced that Android 7.0 Nougat is getting its official roll-out this week to the two devices, though we don’t have any specific dates to watch out for. This comes days after the Verizon-exclusive Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid phones started receiving the update.

Users were able to get grips on the Daydream VR platform and Motorola confirms that every phone will be able to do just as much, putting discussions to rest about whether phones with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset can support it.

Check with our source link to keep updated on your model’s particular progress with the OTA, be it coming from the carrier or Motorola directly.

PSA: Official Google Daydream app and Daydream View VR headset available now

Google’s proper virtual reality revolution begins today, after several years of Cardboard experiments, with a relatively wide-scale Daydream View commercial launch and free Daydream app availability in the search giant’s Play Store.

That highly anticipated fabric-made headset you could pre-order for the past few weeks has started shipping to early adopters, also expanding to Verizon and Best Buy retail locations stateside, Bell, Rogers, Telus and Best Buy up north, EE and Carphone Warehouse on British shores, Deutsche Telekom over in Germany, and JB Hi-Fi down under.

Unfortunately, Google’s own Pixel and Pixel XL remain the only phones officially supported on the Daydream VR platform, though newly published compatibility requirements raise our hopes of seeing many other Android handhelds enabled for Daydream View use before long.

In the meantime, Pixel owners should try to enjoy everything they find working on their phone-in-goggles setup, like YouTube’s “entire library of videos on a virtual big screen” or 150 of the world’s “most amazing places” with Google Street View.

The Play Store Daydream app, up for grabs now as a free download, promises to bring immersive new featured content “front and center so there’s always something fresh when you put on your headset.” The service is pretty great for organizing various VR experiences and browsing from an “ever-growing collection of apps, games and videos”, though the best (cough, Netflix, cough) is yet to come.
