Samsung’s first foldable smartphone could debut as early as January with microSD

After hailing the creation of flexible smartphone displays as possibly the industry’s biggest innovation since touch interaction, the obvious limitations of the Samsung Galaxy Round, LG G Flex, or Galaxy S6 Edge execution brought us back with our feet firmly planted on the ground. But now it’s time to start dreaming again of fully bendable, ...

Folding smartphones will be my dream handsets

Smartphones are finally getting weird again, and I love it. Just a couple years ago, the landscape was a lot different than it is today, with a lot more variety in the sort of models that were coming out – for better or worse. We had that brief fling with autostereoscopic 3D phones, saw a number of models with multiple screens, and had manufacturers experimenting with some pretty elaborate form factors – heck, sometimes even doing more than one ...

Samsung Galaxy Round vs LG G Flex: which curved screen would you prefer? (Poll)

Two smartphones with curved displays have been unleashed upon us recently and, while they both have the curved attribute in common for their displays, they are very different in execution and overall philosophy. First there was the Samsung Galaxy Round, a powerful smartphone with a curved screen, from side to side, horizontally. Samsung implemented some software bits that take advantage of the phone “rocking” to the sides, but we won’t go into specific software and hardware specs ...

Google Nexus 5, iPhone 5C, HTC One Max Comments & more – Pocketnow Daily Recap

Pocketnow Daily gets an average of 300 to 500 comments a day, and sometimes even a thousand. We’d like to thank you all for participating in our question of the day, and we love your feedback so much, that we decided that since we can’t respond to ever single one of your comments, we should at least feature a couple in a weekly video. This is the Pocketnow Daily Recap. Since we only have 3 minutes on every Daily video to go through the hottest news, the weekly recap will serve as a more extensive discussion where we also include your thoughts on the subject. Sadly, for the sake of ...

We told you flexible screens and batteries didn’t mean flexible phones

Remember way back when we first started hearing about flexible displays? We saw all kinds of cool displays at trade shows demonstrating how screens could curve and bend and flex. We were all wowed! Then a few of us started reeling the conversation back towards reality. Batteries, we said, were still fairly large and bulky, and didn’t bend at all. Chips and circuit boards are also pretty rigid. Then that all changed when we started seeing demos for, you guessed it, flexible batteries. This renewed the public’s desire to have a flexible, perhaps even a “roll-up” ...

Samsung Galaxy Round is really a prototype, availability will be limited, claims report

Remember the Samsung Galaxy Round, that (almost “what the…“) phone that has a curved display … from side to side? It is indeed an industry first, but your chances of getting one are very thin, if a recent report is to be believed. Not sure of why you would want one, but apparently, they are limited in numbers. Samsung, according to unnamed sources, is producing a small batch of these ...

The Galaxy Round is Samsung’s new hardware gimmick

As Joe Levi always says: “This is a great time to be alive.” The reason why is because this is definitely the era of experimentation. For those of you that remember pagers, two-way pagers, PDAs and even regular cellphones, you’ll notice just how incredibly things have evolved in a little more than a decade. Most of these devices were held-back by either technology or imagination, but even though these products don’t exist any more, their legacy continues in features like text-messaging, PIM data on our smartphones, and obviously regular phone calls. On the other ...

The Galaxy Round’s curved display may not be so bad after all

Rumors of curved and flexible displays have flooded the Internet for well over a year now. Samsung announced its flexible YOUM OLED displays at CES 2013. Concepts and word of such flexible smartphones reach back even further, like the Galaxy Skin concept from late 2011. It has long been understood that flexible displays would not initially bring flexible smartphones. Battery technology breakthroughs have introduced flexible cells. In smartphones, most other components, ...

Samsung Galaxy Round announced with curved display from side-to-side

The leak was just posted a couple of hours ago and it looks like it took the shortest leak-to-annoucement time: Samsung Galaxy Round has been announced, the phone which has a curved display from side-to-side. Apparently, for the moment, this is for Samsung’s home turf, and will be available on October 10 (tomorrow) in South Korea. We’ve got a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display, curved, with a Full HD 1080p resolution — same as on the Note 3. Other specs are also common with the Note 3 (both inside, as well as stitched leather back on the outside), as the Galaxy Round packs a ...

“Galaxy Round” to be how Samsung’s curved display smartphone arrives?

Samsung’s put together a phone using flexible display technology to give it a curved screen, and we know that the company intends to launch the handset this week. That puts us only days away from finally seeing this next-gen display make it into a commercial phone, but just how will it arrive? Some rumors have talked about a device taking its cues from the Note 3, while others have looked to a smaller handset. As we wait to get to the bottom of that hardware question, we’ve begun to hear talk about a ...
