A bug is in the way of getting Android 7.1.1 to Nexus 6

The Nexus 6 is 25 months old, but is still under the supportive wing of Google for at least one more software update. Unfortunately, that update has been stuck at the company while other Nexus and Pixel devices have already made the jump from Android 7.0 Nougat to Android 7.1.1.

Why? Well, in a statement to Android Police, it turns out that developers are looking into a “last minute bug that was specific to the Nexus 6.” A fix has been put in and final touches will be as well before the over-the-air update will be released starting early next month.

With Google’s software support policy applicable to first-party devices 24 months old or newer, this update, which brings native image keyboard support to apps among other features, could be the Nexus 6’s last.

The Nexus 6 was a laggard to receiving the Android 7.0 update.

LeEco Le Pro 3 OTA update cleans up EUI just a bit

Sure, LeEco might be wrong-headed in its approach to spreading its brand across the world (at least to investors). But at least it’s trying. And it’s trying to make that apparent on the consumer side.

The LeEco Le Pro 3, the top-tier phone made public in the US a couple of months ago, now has an over-the-air update destined for it.

It’s not Android Nougat, but it takes users to EUI version 5.8.020S and most of the improvements have to do with cleaning and prettying up said user interface: adding iOS-esque badges to apps on the home screen for notifications; dropping superfluous empty subject banners on SMS; reducing Bluetooth scanning periods to save on device resources; camera improvements and; app permission tweaks, among others.

The Google Mobile Services app package has been updated, too, for “increased stability & stability.”

The roll-out will take its time. There’s been some, but less love for the mid-range Le S3.

Vodafone Australia testing Galaxy S7 Android N software

It seems that the Galaxy Beta Program may be wrapping up its work on perfecting the Android Nougat interface for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

Vodafone Australia has told its customers on its software updates blog that the Android 7 software package is being tested for both devices right now. We should see these things start flying over the air in a few weeks.

While it’s not clear which iteration of Nougat this “N” update entails, Samsung has indicated to Beta test members that it will be version 7.1.1. The Secure Folder feature found on the Note 7 may make its move to the S7 series.
