Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Lite image leak arrives well ahead of rumored launch

The Galaxy Tab S7 Lite isn’t rumored to launch until June, but an image of the tablet has already leaked. The photo give us a great look at the device’s design while also seemingly confirming a few features.

The image was shared by Evan Blass, and reveals the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite will feature a design that’s similar to last year’s Tab S7. The new tablet will reportedly feature an all-metal body, rounded corners, flat edges, and a dual-camera setup. Judging by a side-view of the device, the camera module will protrude from the body.

The Tab S7 Lite will allegedly feature a 12.4-inch display, although it’s unclear if it’ll be a high refresh-rate LTPO panel, and two stereo speakers tuned by AKG on either side. There’s also said to be a magnetic charging zone on the back of the device, where users can store and recharge the included stylus. Including the stylus is a nice touch and means you’ll be able to take advantage of the device’s full potential right out of the box.

Previously reportedly specs include a Snapdragon 750G processor, 4GB and 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. The device is also expected to launch with Android 11 running One UI 3.1. Like other recent Samsung devices, the Tab S7 Lite will likely be offered in a 5G option (plus WiFi and LTE variants). Finally, the device may launch with a 7,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging.

The Tab S7 Lite will reportedly be available in four colors at launch: black, green, pink, and silver. It’s likely Samsung will also introduce new accessories, including cases and a detachable keyboard.

Samsung has confirmed its next Unpacked event will take place on April 28. However, the tablet isn’t expected to debut until the summer. We’ll still keep our eyes peeled just in case the device does get a mention.

Samsung may be readying an affordable ‘Galaxy Tab S7 Lite’ tablet, and I’m stoked

Samsung has been launching a watered-down version of its flagship Android tablets for a while now, with the most recent examples being the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and the Galaxy Tab S5e. It now appears that Samsung is ready to pull the same trick this year as well, launching a more affordable version of the high-end Galaxy Tab S7 tablet(s) later this year.

Galaxy Tab S7 Lite, with 5G support in tow, might arrive in June

As per images – which appear to have been pulled from official marketing material – shared by a fairly reliable leakster who goes by the username WalkingCat on Twitter, Samsung will launch the Galaxy Tab S7 in June. The leaked image suggests that the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite will take some design inspiration from the vanilla Galaxy Tab S7, rocking a 12.4-inch display surrounded by fairly slim bezels.

The biggest upgrade appears to be support for 5G connectivity. If the leak turns out to be true, the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite will be the first non-flagship tablet in Samsung’s portfolio to bring 5G connectivity to the table. It will reportedly offer support for the in-house Galaxy Continuity feature as well, which allows users to handle phone calls and messages on the tablet while paired with a compatible Samsung phone.

Details about the rest of the internal hardware are scarce right now. However, a tweet from another leakster suggests that the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite might come equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor. Lately, the Snapdragon 765G has made its way to a bucket load of mid-range Android phones that offer 5G support on a budget. However, we won’t be surprised if Samsung decides to go with one of its in-house 5G-ready chips such as the Exynos 990 or Exynos 1080.

Why I’m excited for the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite?

Samsung is among the only few big names in the industry that is still committed to the Android tablet segment. While these machines don’t exactly double as your work PC (at least for me), they do come in handy for media consumption, social media browsing, and a bit of casual gaming. But the high asking price of Samsung’s flagship Android tablets has been a deterrent for me. The ‘Lite’ tablets, however, offer a great alternative for those on a tight budget.

The Lite tablets offer a lot on a tight budget, and in a very stylish package

I’ve used the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e as well as the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite in the past, and have come out thoroughly impressed. Both the tablets had a slim metallic build, came equipped with an adequately powerful processor that was enough for my needs, and had a decent quality screen too. Plus, the speakers were nice. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite in particular, with the bundled stylus for taking notes and support for Bluetooth keyboards, often helped me write a few articles while on the move.

I just hope that with the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite, Samsung manages to improve the display quality of its affordable Android tablets, especially in the brightness department. And if Samsung manages to price it below the $500 mark, it would be a great budget Android tablet to rival the smaller iPads.

Samsung might be working on two ‘Lite’ tablets to expand Galaxy Tab S7 range

It is not only smartphones that get a ‘Lite’ or ‘Fan Edition’ treatment from Samsung, as the company has also launched its fair share of tablets with watered-down specs and a premium build in the past few years. As per a new report by SamMobile, the company might soon introduce two new tablets with the same appeal. It is quite likely that these upcoming tablets will draw inspiration from the Galaxy Tab S7 and the Tab S7+, and will make a few concessions in the hardware department to bring the asking price down.

“Samsung is apparently working on an upper new mid-range tablet that could eventually go on sale as the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite or even as the Galaxy Tab S8e. Details are scarce but according to our sources, the tablet should be launched in Wi-Fi, LTE, and 5G variants with model numbers SM-T730, SM-T735, and SM-T736B / SM-T736N, respectively,” says the SamMobile report.

Two Lite tablets, two screen sizes - just like the Galaxy Tab S7 duo

The Galaxy Tab S7 Lite name actually makes a lot of sense, since the company gave the Galaxy Tab S6 flagship tablet the same treatment in the past and launched a more affordable version called Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, complete with a stylus in tow to take advantage of the screen real estate. Unfortunately, though, there are no details regarding the internal hardware of Samsung’s upcoming tablets, what they look like, and more importantly, how much they will cost.

Galaxy Tab S7 Lite Plus / XL also in the making?

There is another model in the pipeline that will come bearing the Plus (or XL) branding. However, there is some confusion about whether it will be called a Gallaxy Tab S7 Lite Plus, Galaxy Tab S7 Lite XL, or Galaxy Tab S8e. Now, the Galaxy Tab S8e name might sound a bit out of place, but Samsung has actually been through that naming scheme before when it launched the Galaxy Tab S5e back in February of 2019, and then applied it to its phone portfolio as well by introducing the Galaxy S10e
