Android N for Galaxy S7 on Vodafone Australia is version 7.0

Well, so much for getting our hopes up for Android 7.1.1, at least at Vodafone in Australia.

The carrier announced last week that it was performing tests for the Android Nougat update for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. We now know from a comment and reply on the software update post that the final software version you will likely find on applicable units will be 7.0.

One moderator of the Galaxy Beta Program mentioned that a software package based on Android 7.1.1 (the current version for Nexus, Pixel and some Android One devices) is in the pipeline to be delivered to the two flagships.

Some other commenters have questioned Vodafone about this development, but as a general rule, we’d take a company representative over the doubt. Nevertheless, we’ll keep tabs on the situation.

Vodafone Australia testing Galaxy S7 Android N software

It seems that the Galaxy Beta Program may be wrapping up its work on perfecting the Android Nougat interface for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

Vodafone Australia has told its customers on its software updates blog that the Android 7 software package is being tested for both devices right now. We should see these things start flying over the air in a few weeks.

While it’s not clear which iteration of Nougat this “N” update entails, Samsung has indicated to Beta test members that it will be version 7.1.1. The Secure Folder feature found on the Note 7 may make its move to the S7 series.

Android 7.1.1 update due on Vodafone Australia December 6

Vodafone Australia has notified its customers that the Huawei-made Nexus 6P will be getting the official Android 7.1.1 Nougat update starting December 6 — less than two weeks after the second Developer Preview version of the OS was released.

The firmware update for the Nexus 6P is estimated to size up at 650MB and is labelled NMF28F. 10,000 phones will get the first pulse of over-the-air deliveries within the first 72 hours — users can also manually check for the update. From then on through day 13, an additional 10 percent of the device population per day will be able to manually retrieve the update. All devices will be eligible to update by day 14.

The update post may indicate that Google may update other Nexus devices (as of yet to be disclosed) across the globe at around the same time. The Google Pixel devices launched with Android 7.1.

Google Daydream View hitting retail worldwide on November 10

Google was able to see Lenovo’s Project Tango phone kick off sales today, but in addition to augmented reality, there’s also a development in the virtual reality world today… well, technically Project Tango is working under the wing of Daydream VR, but it’s another kick-off of sales anyways.

Google’s own Daydream View headset will actually come offline for sales at $79 in the US, $99 in Canada, $119 in Australia and £69 or €69 in the UK or Germany. The magic date for sales and first shipments is November 10.

In addition to the Google Store, you may choose to wait to buy the teched-up piece of lovely upholstery at Verizon stores across the United States. Canada will see the sets at Rogers, Telus and Best Buy while Europe will get them at EE, Carphone Warehouse and Deutsche Telekom. Aussies can head over to JB Hi-Fi or Telstra.

In nine days, the new headset officially will usher in a new Daydream VR platform for Android Nougat with a new mission for how the operating system will interface and play in a new medium.
