Over the weekend we’ve seen a leaked press render allegedly depicting the Nokia Lumia 929, which is expected, as per the report, to land on Verizon’s network soon. Today we’re taking a look at what is claimed to be the back of said device, in its black color flavor. Aside from the Verizon and 4G LTE logos printed on the bottom, there’s nothing really interesting, aside from the 20MP call-out for the camera. It completes the Nokia, PureView, and Zeiss branding, and it seems to confirm ...

Windows Phone Notification Center reportedly included in GDR3

With all the phablet and higher-resolution rumors surrounding the near-future of Windows Phone 8 and OEMs, the buzz is, again, at its best, concerning Microsoft’s mobile platform. According to some recent reports, GDR3 (GDR2 is being rolled out as we speak), is under testing at Nokia India. We take that, as well as other details in the report, with a grain of salt. The mysterious “notification center”, which should have been in Windows Phone 8 if Microsoft had more time to test it, was reportedly pushed back to the “Blue”-codenamed update. Today’s report ...

Nokia may be testing six-inch “Bandit” Windows Phone phablet

Is it finally time for Windows Phone to branch out into phablet territory? Today we get a new report on one of those models, with sources claiming that a 6-inch Nokia phablet is in testing as codename Bandit. Bandit would run WP8 GDR3 and have a full HD 1080p display. Nokia Lumia 825 tipped as quad-core budget phablet

Back in early July, before the Lumia 1020 was even official, we ran across some rumors attempting to identify what’s next for Nokia, naming a handful of model numbers and screen sizes, but declining to go into detail on any other hardware specifics. Today one of those devices, the Lumia 825, returns to our attention, starring in some new rumors that paint the phone as a budget-priced phablet. While the 825 may arrive with a big 5.2-inch 720p display, the bigger deal could be ...

Windows Phone 8 1080p evidence arrives

One of the upcoming changes we’ve talked about more than once for Windows Phone 8 is bringing support for high resolution 1080p displays to the platform. Supposedly, this would show up later this year as part of the anticipated GDR3 update, also ushering-in the era of quad-core SoCs for Windows Phone. As we wait to catch wind of the first hardware that will take advantage of all this new support, some early evidence has arrived to confirm the coming 1080p support. This comes in the form of support files for Microsoft’s Visual Studio ...

Nokia developing Snapdragon 800-powered Lumia handset?

So far, Windows Phone has done an admirable job at avoiding temptations to get caught up in the hardware spec rat race, as so many Android OEMs do. WP hardware may not have the highest-end components around, but darn it – it gets the job done. Still, while the platform may not be racing to adopt the bleeding edge, it does need to modernize itself from time to time – just look at the addition of 720p support last year. We’ve already heard rumors that 1080p could be in the platform’s future, along with ...
