Huawei’s Android Nougat to debut on P9, Mate 8 today in China

With all the fuss about betas and super software updates from Google, Samsung, HTC and Lenovo (among others), we haven’t really covered the Android Nougat path for Huawei’s hardware.

The Huawei Mate 9 already features the smarter and cleaner EMUI 5.0 on top of Android 7.0, though, so its’ only a matter of time that the P9, Mate 8 and other entries from Honor get their fixings. But how much time?

Apparently, the software roadmap puts us closer than you might think. According to a thread on the Chinese Huawei Club forums, the P9 and Mate 8 will get their official Nougat updates today. The Honor 8 and V8 are going through their first full beta builds right now and so is the Huawei P9 Plus. The mid-range Huawei Nova is currently shuttling its first betas out as well. We presume more phones will be tacked onto that list as time goes on.

Keep in mind that these dates are not global, so we’ll probably have to bide our time elsewhere.

Huawei offers glimpse into Mate 9 performance with Kirin 960 announcement

One of the smartphone manufacturers that probably stands to win a great deal of Samsung’s anticipated Galaxy Note 7 sales, especially in Asian markets, is Huawei, which should finally take the wraps off the beastly Mate 9 in New York City and/or Munich ...

No Mate S2 or Mate 9 to be announced at IFA Berlin, Huawei exec confirms

Our expectations for Huawei’s pre-IFA product announcement event on Thursday probably need to be taken down a notch or two for them to still be “defied”, with the Nova series likely to fly solo to the capital city of Germany after all.Granted, it was a bit of a stretch to anticipate a (very) early September

Samsung doesn’t take long to countersue Huawei for various patent infringements

If it’s legal war Huawei wants, that’s exactly what the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer will get from the industry’s overall ruler, which we know to never back down in a court of law, whether it’s fighting Apple, Nvidia or Ericsson a ...

Huawei shipments expected to be pared back, OPPO still growing

Huawei’s been chomping up the food chain as the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer by annual shipments. It was originally looking forward to a 40 percent jump in shipments this year to further its ambitions to be the world’s largest OEM.Nope. Not the case it seems, as told from Taiwanese industry. Huawei may cut back from a forecast 140 million smartphones to 120 million smartphones. That’s still a 20 percent improvement from last year, but with the higher-end ...

Daydream VR-compatible Huawei phone definitely coming this fall

While Google confirmed at the I/O developer conference last month that fall 2016 is the ETA of its “high quality mobile virtual reality” Daydream platform, the search giant didn’t say when actual supporting phones manufactured by partners Samsung, HTC, Huawei, LG, ZTE, Asus, Alcatel, and Xiaomi would land. And mind you, current-gen Android flagships, including the Galaxy S7, LG G5, HTC 10 and even Google’s own Nexus 6P, are pretty much guaranteed to

Sizzling hot eBay deal brings Huawei Mate 8 price down to $420

Deemed “the new flagship to beat for battery life” after some impressive-looking endurance tests, and “the new choice for the power warrior” following our rigorous complete review process, the Huawei Mate 8 unfortunately never properly launched stateside. While we can’t say we’re surprised to see US carriers turn a cold shoulder to a China-made beast, especially one with a niche-oriented 6-inch screen in tow, it was certainly disappointing that ...

Huawei Mate 9 tipped for late 2016 release with Kirin 960, dual 20MP rear cam

Forget one or two flagship phones. Huawei appears to want to break some sort of record, working on a high-end Mate 9 phablet even after recently unveiling the premium P9 and P9 Plus, and gearing up to announce the equally top-notch Honor V8 on May 10.It’s market flooding at its best, but chances are the P9 duo and yet-to-be-introduced V8 ...

The Huawei P9 has had a full day to stand out on its own. You might still be intrigued about those two Leica cameras and how they perform. Lionel Messi jumps ship from Samsung to Huawei ambassador role

After winning five Ballon d’Or trophies awarded for the world’s best football (or soccer) player of the year since 2009, and four UEFA Champions League cups, you have to figure Lionel “Leo” Messi can’t easily settle for second, let alone third place.Nonetheless, the living Argentinian legend has just signed up an advertising partnership with Huawei, despite back in the day endorsing the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy S5. For our hardcore football fans out there unfamiliar with the smartphone ...

Huawei Mate 8 review: the new choice for the power warrior

When we first laid eyes on the Huawei Mate 8 at CES 2016, we were only mildly impressed. While its clean industrial design and oversized battery were welcome additions to the Mate family, the phone still came with software quite literally designed for another continent – and its overloaded feature set seemed more at home on a Samsung phone from 2012 than a modern Android flagship.A week with the Mate 8 back home in Boston hasn’t changed our feelings about the phone’s shortcomings, but it ...
