Garmin is the lone winner of a disastrous Q3 smartwatch report, as Apple and Lenovo crash and burn

Smartwatches showed so much promise and garnered a crazy amount of buzz back in the day, but not even Apple was able to keep the hype up for long in lack of clear use cases and compelling selling points. Now, granted, intelligent timepieces with attractive built-in features including GPS trackers and cellular radios that allow them to break free of connected smartphones are slowly starting to multiply at last. Then you have a number of fashion brands willing to diversify the industry and go after luxury-loving audiences, though it might already be too little, too late.At least as far as ...

Apple Watch Nike+ is ‘available’ October 28, but new buyers must wait until November

If you were quick to pre-order the “perfect running partner” back in early September, we have good news to report at last, with Apple Watch Nike+ deliveries officially slated to begin two weeks from now.The Nike Sport Band-donning Series 2 wearable slips from October 28 to an unspecified “early November” ETA for “late” adopters, although that’s still not as bad as wait times for, say, the jet black iPhone 7 Plus.October 28 appears to mark an availability start not only stateside, but also in ...

Apple Watch Series 2 battery is a full third larger than original model, teardown shows

While it’s likely nowhere near as popular as the completely sold-out iPhone 7 Plus, the second-generation Apple Watch, aka Series 2, also launches today, and might be hard to come by in certain colors and configurations at first, currently listed as shipping in several weeks or even months from the official Cupertino e-store.But if you’re only curious to take a quick peek under the hood of a 38mm Series 2, iFixit follows ...

watchOS 3, iOS 10 released, but take your time with it

In another day or two, we’ll probably have to publish a quick story about how fast iOS 10 is being adopted and the torrents of people finding major, iPhone- or iPhone-bricking problems with the update. We hope not to have to write the latter story, actually, but we expect to.Never mind all that, as the iOS 10 software package is available for using to download and install now, as is the watchOS 3 update. You can go to your ...

Apple iPhone 7 Event: What’s Hot and What’s Not

We’ve spent the last couple of years, to a certain degree complaining, about an Apple that has lost its mojo. The Cupertino we knew got lost for a bit with iterative iPhone updates, and a few gimmicks here in there in the last few iPhone and Apple Watch releases. The effects of this were clearly seen in the company seeing the first decline in iPhone sales in history over the last two quarters. Apple clearly got the memo though, as today’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus announcement have shown us that the bold Apple of years past should not be written off as the innovator of the ...
