watchOS 3, iOS 10 released, but take your time with it

In another day or two, we’ll probably have to publish a quick story about how fast iOS 10 is being adopted and the torrents of people finding major, iPhone- or iPhone-bricking problems with the update. We hope not to have to write the latter story, actually, but we expect to.Never mind all that, as the iOS 10 software package is available for using to download and install now, as is the watchOS 3 update. You can go to your ...

Apple iPad mini 3 sold for as little as $300 with 128GB storage at Best Buy

If the Apple Watch’s recent discounts through Target, Best Buy and B&H Photo Video signal the coming of an incremental upgrade, could a new deal on the iPad mini 3 be considered confirmation of an approaching refreshed iOS tablet too?Well, not exactly, since the 7.9-incher was

The Pocketnow Holiday Shopping Guide 2015

Step back from the food court, I repeat, step back from the food court. Move away from the deals. Seriously, though, you might be on a sales safari come this weekend or a cyber chase on Monday. If you’re the type of person to give away phones and smartwatches for the holidays, though, it helps to actually consider what you’re getting and how it fits the person you’re getting it for.Like a sommelier does with wine, we’re given you our suggestions on what phones to look for when you’re talking about your dorky cousin Jane or your stylish uncle Jebidiah. Patent warfare bites Apple as it loses to the University of Wisconsin

Companies are not in the business of losing money to those who steal their product ideas. But the path to patent protection in the process of profit gets dirty. Microsoft and Google have agreed to stop the mudslinging in some major disputes while Samsung and Apple might soon have to send lawyers up to Washington, D.C.But the University of Wisconsin-Madison has a bone to pick with Cupertino and a court is ...

Both iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 4 may support Split View multitasking

One of Apple’s most praised features for iOS 9 is also something that only those that own an iPad Air 2 can enjoy, and it’s Split View multitasking. Those who bought the iPad mini 3 were highly disappointed, and specially when both tablets share almost identical specifications in everything but their RAM. Apple might have noticed the disappointment, and it seems the company will do something about ...

Apple’s September iPhone event gets a rumored date: mark your calendars

These next several weeks are going to be big ones for new smartphone launches. Samsung Unpacked is next Thursday, and then we’ve just got a couple weeks to go before IFA rolls around and we look forward to the next wave of hardware announcements. After that, we’ve been expecting Apple to show off its latest iPhone models sometime in September, but so far we haven’t been able to narrow that window down by much. Apple’s yet to make anything official, but a fresh rumor out this afternoon attempts to give us an early heads-up before Apple sends out its own invites, ...

Sprint merges iPhone and iPad for life programs with bundle deal

The tide is changing in the US smartphone market. Competition between carriers is heating up, and major shifts in how we pay for phones and service are already underway. If you bought a new phone recently, there’s a solid chance that instead of taking advantage of a carrier subsidy, you either bought the handset outright or directly financed it through a payment plan. And with so many players offering to pay their competitors’ early termination fees in order to snag new customers, you have to ...
