iOS 10 beta 2 is out as are other Apple OS beta updates

We’re diving right into July and the second wave of beta kits has arrived for all Apple developers working on iOS 10, macOS Sierra, watchOS 3.0 and tvOS. Most of the changes are minor tweaks, but there’s always going to be a surprise or two happening in there, like unlocking your Mac with your iPhone. The big test will come when the company releases its public betas for iOS 10 and macOS Sierra sometime this month. We aren’t sure when it will happen, but that’s what ...

iOS 10 deletes user data from stock apps, not the apps themselves

Pop our bubble, why doesn’t Apple? We mentioned that you can delete certain pre-loaded apps provided by Apple on iOS 10 from your machine. The support page for the topic even uses the word “delete” and the iconography for downloading from the cloud if you decide to put the app back on your device.Turns out, nope.Senior Vice President of software engineering Craig Federighi ...

Would you install iMessage on Android if it became available?

WWDC’s keynote has come and gone, and with it, we have seen a glimpse of Apple’s plans for the future. Not surprisingly, Apple’s plans are rather Apple-centric. I know what you’re thinking. “Duh, it’s Apple’s conference,” but what I found very interesting was that of all the updates, all the new features, all the new apps we saw, there was nary a mention of Android and the 85% of the world that it owns/that owns it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting that Apple should be promoting the competition at its own keynote, but when you stop and consider what Microsoft and ...

Lara Croft GO, Streaks and INKS lead list of Apple Design Award winners

iOS 10, macOS Sierra, watchOS 3 & more WWDC 2016 first impressions

Apple’s WWDC wrapped up a hours minutes ago, and even if all we received is software, it’s hard to not admit that the changes are all worth enough to not load the Pocketnow Daily with just this as the news. Apple clearly see’s itself as a software company, as many of the new updates have given a new life to products we considered dull, like in the case of the Apple Watch. Instead of offering hardware updates that would only place these products in more difficult obsolescence, today’s announcements are enough to re-consider them.Watch our first impressions of WWDC 2016 as we ...

Apple unveils iOS 10-integrated Home app for smart home controls

Apple just outdid itself by improving iOS in not one, not two or three or more departments, but ten to go nicely with the new platform’s name. Of course, at first glance, News and HomeKit upgrades are nowhere near as eye-catching as Siri’s reworked “intelligence”, but if you look deeper, you’ll actually find the latter a pretty big deal.A standalone new Home app now sits on your iOS home screen by default, working on iPhones, iPads and the Apple Watch to help you easily control all your HomeKit ...

Photos on iOS incorporates Memories, a bit of HTC Zoe

Google Photos may have been the first with the smart album in the cloud, but Photos on iOS won’t let Apple’s foes across the bay beat it.Albums for geographical, time-based events — otherwise known as “Trips” — get compiled with not only all the pictures of the event, but interface sections for who was there and where it was happening. HTC might not be too happy with Memories’s ability ...

iOS 10 focuses on user experience improvements, vastly upgraded Siri

While it’s pretty much customary of Apple to tout every new software release as the biggest, greatest, most groundbreaking ever, iOS 10 may well deliver on its promise of being the “biggest iOS release ever for our users.”There are ten pivotal add-ons in iOS 10 (obviously), starting with user experience. As vague as it sounds, you already know you’ll feel the across-the-board improvements, including to the lock screen and 3D Touch, the latter of which works with third-party apps like Uber or ESPN in a number of ways.Control Center is another redesigned area of the mobile platform, ...
