Is there room for an iPad mini and an iPad Pro?

Some rumors recently suggested that Apple was planning 12.(something) inch iPad Pro. This would put this iPad directly in line to compete against the Surface, which is a role reversal of sorts and that makes me smile a little bit. Other rumors suggest that the iPad Pro would actually replace the iPad mini in Apple’s lineup as “the second iPad”. Now this rumor was interesting for a few different reasons. But it got me to thinking – is that such a good idea? It’s true the iPad mini has never sold as well as the iPad. The first generation iPad mini didn’t have a retina screen, so ...

How to use Continuity in iOS 8 and Yosemite (Video)

At WWDC this year, Apple announced a brand new feature for iOS devices and Macs called Continuity. The idea was to streamline the process between switching devices and to make iOS and Mac OS work more closely together. It’s a software feature that lets you use your iPhone, iPad, and Mac interchangeably, for almost any task. Answer an incoming phone call on your iPhone using your iPad or Mac, load the same web page you have open in Safari on your Mac on ...

AT&T spoils Apple’s multi-carrier SIM by locking it down

One of the many cool things about the iPad Air 2 (as well as the iPad mini 3) is the inclusion of an Apple-branded SIM card. Rather than having to choose a carrier first, then go and seek out a matching SIM, the Apple SIM gives users the ability to decide on a network and plan at their leisure, with the hardware ready to support T-Mobile, AT&T, or Sprint. And if you’re not willing to commit to a long-term agreement, you could always switch things up and try shorter-term plans from various carriers ...

Why the heck do the new iPads have NFC chips when they can’t make contactless payments?

With the release of iOS 8.1, Apple Pay is now live in the US, and if you’ve got an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, that means that everything’s ready to go for you to start making some contactless mobile payments at retailer terminals. At least, that’s the situation on the new iPhones (above), but it’s a different story for Apple’s latest tablets: right up until launch we were unsure if the Air 2 and ...

Top 5 widgets for your iPhone and iPad (Video)

We’ve talked about iOS 8 and all the new and useful features plenty of times now, but we haven’t had the chance to focus on those individual features and, more importantly, the third-party support for said features. One of our favorites, which actually surprised us, was the introduction of widgets in the Today section of Notification Center. These widgets display different types of at-a-glance information, provide shortcuts to different features or settings, and even help your remember things. There are ...

iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 – What we Love and Hate

Apple may have not invented the tablet computer, nor may have it been the first company to launch a fully functional product to the world. Apple iPad mini 3 specs: a case of déjà vu

It’s easy to look at today’s iPad mini 3 announcement and come away wanting a little more: a newer SoC, perhaps, or something beyond Touch ID to make it stand out a little better from last year’s iPad mini with Retina display. For now, though, it still represents the pinnacle of Apple’s shrunken-down tablet lineup, and likely will for the year to come – so we’d better start getting familiar with. If you’re already intimately acquainted with last year’s iPad mini specs, ...
