Microsoft Lumia stock resurfaces at the Microsoft Store, snatched quickly

Microsoft left customers with a dearth of Lumia options, firmly indicating that it is out of stock of all them while still listing them on the Microsoft Store. The only option out of eight that was available as of January 2 was the AT&T-locked Lumia 950 in white for $298.99.

That was until January 6. Neowin reported that the Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL were back on the digital shelves, if only for a short time. Those sales are now also long gone and we’re back to just the AT&T Lumia 950.

Microsoft supposedly scheduled the end of Lumia distribution for December, but with another rumored first-party flagship launch months and months away, we have to ask: why now?

HTC Vive is $100 off, but Microsoft is giving more

It’s already well and good that one of the first and biggest splashes in virtual reality is going for $699 for a limited time at the Microsoft Store and at the HTC Vive website. Even sweeter is the fact that customers will also be getting promo codes for free access to “The Gallery – Episode 1: Call of the Starseed” and “Zombie Training Simulator.”

But Microsoft is putting on an additional $100 gift code for its store (to be used within seven days) and if you bundle in a qualifying GeForce GTX chip purchase or a Vive-compatible PC checkout, you’ll also get three free VR games and an additional top-off discount, too.

It really seems that HTC has some promotional clout over Oculus here.

Microsoft fully previews ’12 Days of Deals’ on Surface Pro 4, VR headsets, and more

Why not give your loved one a Surface Pro 4 convertible tablet instead of four calling birds on the fourth day of Christmas this year? How about an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift VR headset on the ninth day in lieu of nine ladies who might need a bit of convincing to randomly start dancing and impress that special someone?

If you can’t afford to spend between $600 and $800, the US Microsoft Store will also have you covered with ultra-low-cost Windows laptops, tablets, Xbox games and controllers during the 2016 “12 Days of Deals” celebrations.

Very shortly after wrapping up the Black Friday and Cyber Monday discount bash, Redmond will roll out new and old daily special offers starting Monday, December 5. But our mobile-focused readers may find the December 8 and 16 deals the most compelling of the bunch, with the Surface Pro 4 first sold at $250 off list in an entry-level Core m3 configuration, and then including up to $359 savings, presumably in higher-end variants.

It’s worth highlighting the former $649 bargain shall also fetch you a free sleeve, while the latter sounds awfully similar to a Best Buy Cyber Week promo still up for grabs right now.

You probably don’t want to ignore Microsoft’s “up to 70%” savings on “select Windows 10 tablets” either, coming December 9, or December 13’s refreshed $100 gift code deal with HTC Vive or Oculus Rift purchases.

Save $462 off of an HP Elite x3 Holiday Bundle at the Microsoft Store

While the HP Elite x3 isn’t the most popular new Windows 10 Mobile phone out there. — it got usurped by a days-old device! — you can’t deny that it’s capable and it has a pretty hardcore audience. If you’re messing around with Citrix to work on virtual desktops and such, maybe you should be looking at this thing.

And if you’re going to do that, you might as well hit up the Microsoft Store for the next day — through November 28, you can buy up an GSM-compatible HP Elite x3 along with a Desk Dock, a Lap Dock, a phone case and a screen protector for just $999.

Considering that we see the Elite x3 stand alone at $799, getting all the docks you need for Continuum multi-interfacing and a couple of brownie points add-ons for an extra $200 doesn’t sound too bad. It’s a proclaimed $462 savings, after all.

Microsoft will shave up to $430 off Surface Pro 4, $400 off Surface Book this Black Friday

Still a little disenchanted you won’t be able to purchase even a lightly revised Surface Pro 5 with one of those fancy new Intel Kaby Lake processors inside for the holidays? How about the refreshed Surface Book with Performance Base? We’re guessing that one strikes your fancy, but simply feels too darn expensive.

Well, the “first-gen” models are definitely not too shabby, despite their somewhat advanced age, and at the right price, we bet you won’t give Kaby Lake or the battery life-enhancing “Performance Base” a second thought on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen in love with Microsoft’s in-house convertible Windows 10 tablet/laptop designs, there are big discounts coming on “select” Surface Book and Pro 4 configurations.

Between November 24 and 28, the higher-end, higher-res, more “professional” 13.5-incher shall cost $1499 instead of $1899 with Core i5 Skylake power, a 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM and discrete dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GPU, while a 128GB i5 Surface Book featuring integrated graphics is to set you back $1249 after a $250 markdown across Redmond’s “full retail channel.”

As for the 12.3-inch Surface Pro 4, you’ll be able to save a whopping $430 on a 256GB i5 8GB variant bundled with a black type cover, or $200 off the list price of a 128GB i5 4GB config. That’s in addition to what third-party sellers like Best Buy have up their sleeves, and other Microsoft-direct Black Friday deals on the Xbox One S, Lumia 950, 950 XL and numerous Windows 10 PCs.

Surface Book i7 sales start today from the Microsoft Store

Microsoft calls it the “Surface Book with Performance Base,” and with a beefed up quad-core Intel Core i7 processor inside, a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GTX965M GPU, more fans and more batteries chucked in below the keyboard, we can see why the base unit is getting all the performance attention it needs.

We’ll keep calling it the Surface Book i7. Seriously, it rolls off the tongue.

And it has rolled off of pre-orders and into shipments, too. Specifically, Microsoft in the US and Canada is opening up sales for the revised detachable laptop.

The base memory option has 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM for US$2,399/CA$3,129 while the 512/16 version is $2,799/$3,629. The 1TB/16GB version will begin sales on November 28 at $3,299/$4,379.
