dbrand Marble skins launch with storewide price slash

dbrand’s done teasing. We’ve seen it pump the crowd up for some orange soda, bamboo and concrete. This time around, it’s the stuff of the ancient Greek government and the Parthenon.

Marble skins have debuted for all devices dbrand does skins for. And to promote the launch, it is offering customers 30 percent off every skin. The sale lasts until Thursday at midnight Eastern.

Why are there no smartwatch skins and is that a good thing?

Something started to dawn on me watching Google I/O, but I wasn’t really able to put my finger on it until recently. It’s something that we’ve all come to accept and I’m not so sure we’re the better for it. The Moto 360 and the Huawei watch both run the same version of Android Wear. And by “version” I don’t necessarily mean the number. What I mean is that no one, and I mean ~no one~ is skinning Android Wear on their smartwatches. And I’m not sure I understand why.Well, ok, it’s not that I don’t understand why. That’s probably the wrong way to put it. Google has not ...

Review: Toast Real Wood Cover – Inlay Series for LG V10

There are a number of different options for customizing a smartphone, and the most obvious is of course slapping a case on your phone. There are a number of companies that produce adhesive skins for various phones, usually synthetic, sticker like solutions, but lately a trend towards “natural fibers” are supplying people with unique ways to tailor fit a phone to an individual’s personal style. Toast is a funky company up in Portland Oregon, who championed real wood tech skins several years ago. All products are designed and manufactured in the United States, and their ...

Sony’s stock-ish Android experiment is something every OEM should try

Sony announced recently that it would be testing a new near-stock Android experiment, while moving most of its additional Sony services to the form of apps. This is great news for those of us who have grown to prefer the stock Android experience as can be found on Nexus phones near-stock on phones such as those offered by Motorola The stock Android experience is a pretty good experience, and more importantly, it brings a unified experience across multiple devices.Ask and thou shalt receiveThe days of ...

What is your favorite Android skin?

Android is everywhere, but sometimes it’s a little hard to tell. Samsung’s Android is not the same as HTC’s which is not the same as Alcatel’s. Every OEM pours a little of their own flavor into its version of Android. Some for the better, others…well, not so much. But in a world where 80% of the market is using the same platform and you have no less than two dozen competitors all touting the same OS, what can you do to make your product stand out and shine? Skin it of course!Which leaves us, the consumer, in an odd and sometimes confusing place. Android is ...

dbrand iPhone 6 skin review (Video)

Admittedly, I’m a case junkie – not because I love cases, but rather because I’d rather keep the appearance of my phone pristine for as long as possible. When cases are the only valid option, I like to switch it up, because I get bored with cases quickly. I’ve already bought three for the iPhone 6 Plus. Ergo, I’m an inadvertent case junkie. But cases aren’t the only form of protection for your precious smartphone. If you have one of the select phones dbrand chooses to support, you have a host of ...

dbrand Nexus 5 skin review (Video)

The Nexus 5 we’re giving away isn’t just any old smartphone. First of all, it’s the larger 32GB model, so those of you with an aversion to cloud storage and an affinity for byte-hungry media can rest easy. More importantly, it comes bearing a cosmetic upgrade: a vinyl skin from the fine folks at dbrand that replicates a white carbon fiber/brushed titanium finish. And if that’s not your speed, ...

Samsung spitballing: what might TouchWiz 6 look like?

Yesterday, I recounted my experience re-adopting stock Android after an extended period using skinned builds of the platform. Since the vehicle for my reintroduction to the stock lifestyle was the Google-Edition HTC One, I spent the majority of my time in that editorial comparing the device with its skinned sibling, running the third-party UI called HTC Sense. But Sense isn’t the only Android ...

Facebook Home’s Mission Contradicts Facebook’s Wishes

Last week, when Facebook announced Facebook Home, they went out of their way to address two rumors that have been floating in the Facebook soup for some years now: Facebook is going to make a phone. Facebook is going to make a fork of Android Instead, they basically created their own skin of Android, running on top of whatever flavor of Android happens to be running on your GSIV, One, or what-have-you. Mark Zuckerberg’s reasoning for this was as follows: We want to bring this experience of having a home, of always knowing what’s going on around you, right to your phone. And we want ...
