Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G vs. Galaxy Note III (Video)

As you’ve no doubt picked up on by now, there’s a whole lot about Huawei’s new Ascend Mate2 4G that reminds us of last year’s model. Don’t get us wrong – there a number of noteworthy improvements – but with the same-sized display and and very similar external dimensions, these two are clearly fruit form the same tree. Last year, when we were first introduced to the original Ascend Mate, we felt compelled

Apple outsells Samsung in October, claims report, and with two phones

Samsung always outsells Apple’s iPhone when it introduces the latest Galaxy flagship; that’s mainly because their announcement and availability policies are leapfrogging, so it’s just normal for the newest Android to perform better than the older iPhone. …and then the iPhone outsells the usually six-seven-month old Android when it is introduced, so there’s really nothing to be surprised about when it comes to the chart below. Regardless of who’s on the top spot at any moment, Samsung and Apple are comfortably leading the pack; when it comes to the ...

Samsung goes bigger without going bigger

So the Galaxy Note 3 has launched, and I use that term appropriately, since several aircraft could conceivably launch from it. We already covered our first impressions during our live hangout (some more silently than others). Of course we have a bevy of coverage already released and more to come. Overall, we were pretty impressed by what we saw. Specifically, we were ecstatic by the lack of ...

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs. Galaxy S 4 (Video)

Samsung has just unwrapped its new phablet flagship, the Galaxy Note 3, and there’s no denying that if you didn’t look closely at it, it would be hard to tell it apart from its smaller sibling, the Galaxy S 4. For many, that’s actually a good thing, since those who actually like the looks of the Galaxy S 4 will be well served by the added note-taking functionality of Samsung’s approach to a phablet. So is your next purchase the Galaxy Note 3, or would you rather stick to something that you can go pick-up at a store tomorrow with the Galaxy S 4? Don’t worry, ...

Galaxy Note 3 hands-on (Video)

If you’re a company making a new phablet, you’re not looking to one-up LG and its Optimus G Pro or Sony and its Xperia Z Ultra: you want to be the one coming out with the next Galaxy Note. Luckily for Samsung, it actually does to get to be the one bringing the Galaxy Note 3 to market, and we just saw the manufacturer formally announce the handset a little earlier today in Berlin. While what we saw failed to live up to every rumor (no fingerprint scanner), there was still plenty to be excited about: a new, ...

Samsung launches Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Gear smartwatch, new Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung and Sony are throwing today’s big IFA press events, and while Sony’s conference had a bit of the air let out on it thanks to full details on the Xperia Z1 and Cyber-shot QX-series cameras leaking, Samsung still has some surprises up its sleeve. For all we’ve seen of Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear leaks, there have still been a whole lot of unknowns, but that’s exactly why we came to Berlin in the first place: to get answers about new hardware. Sure enough, Samsung got things underway with CEO JK Shin introducing the Galaxy Note 3. He started getting into ...

Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Gear and Note 10.1 first impressions – Editorial Roundtable

It’s finally that time of year for the city of Berlin to take over the world of Mobile Technology through their yearly IFA event. In the past, it was just another event where we had no clear expectations, but in the last two years, it’s been about Samsung, and more specifically about their new iterations of the Galaxy Note smartphones. The Samsung Unpacked event happens tomorrow at 1PM Eastern, and aside from all the hands-on coverage that both Michael and Anton will get us from the show floor, we’ll also cover the event live through our usual Editorial Roundtable. We ...

Top 5 predictions for IFA 2013

That’s right, it’s about that time for IFA 2013 to happen, and you can bet we’ll be covering every inch of the show floor in Berlin. This has historically been the event for phablets, and a couple of other surprises. Whether it’s LG, HTC, Sony or Samsung, there is a lot to expect from this event in both old and new categories. One of these new and emerging categories is the smart watch, and we know the Samsung Galaxy Gear will be a device we’ll be covering extensively. Make sure you share your thoughts and predictions on what you expect to see at this event as ...

Galaxy Note III launching with 2.5GB RAM?

Is the fabled 3GB RAM smartphone destined to remain a dream? For all the talk the idea gets, we really haven’t seen anything come of it. There was the theory that the LG G2 might usher in the era of such memory capacity, but we ultimately saw it go the 2GB route, instead. And there was the Ubuntu Edge, which would have packed a hefty 4GB of memory, but that project has already folded. That’s left the Galaxy Note III as the best contender, and with its launch ...

Samsung Galaxy Note III wallpaper allegedly leaked, phone reportedly sighted again

Four more days is what we all have to wait until the Samsung Galaxy Note III becomes official. It has been one of the most leaked Samsung phones out there and today we’re getting an image that is claimed to be the upcoming phablet’s wallpaper. Even if it will not be the default one, or even included, it’s a nice colorful image that will look good on your screen. Grab the original file from here. On a related note, the phablet follow-up is allegedly the phone in the image below. Of course, there’s an aspect ratio, ...

Samsung Galaxy Note III and Sony Xperia Z1 landing on Three UK in September

The Samsung Galaxy Note III will be announced on September 4 in Berlin; that’s a certainty! Also certain are some of its upcoming specifications, judging by previous models, their relationships with the S-line, and Samsung’s general policy on devices. We’ve already seen the purported white face of the phablet but what nobody seems to know at the moment is when exactly will the Note III become available? According to the image above, a purported still snapped off of a Three UK internal ...

Samsung Galaxy Note III face shows up in white

It may not be quite the free-for-all that we’ve been seeing with the iPhone 5S and 5C, but there have been a good number of rumors associated with Samsung’s Galaxy Note III, and just the other day we got a nice look at a leaked front panel for the upcoming phablet. That was a very interesting find, letting us do some comparisons to the Note II, but it sure won’t be the only color option the Note III gets at launch. ...

Samsung Galaxy Note III display measured and compared to the Note II

We had a first glimpse at the alleged front panel of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note III and the internet is taking this a step further, with measurements, as well as comparisons to the current model. Let’s start off with the measurements: those who claim access to the physical component state that, after measurements, the screen will be a 5.68-inch display, with 2.2mm bezels (the actual display is 1.8mm thick). How does that compare to the display of the Galaxy Note II? Check out the ...

Samsung Galaxy Note III front panel allegedly leaks, exec confirms September 4 plans

What we have above, and below, is allegedly the front panel of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note III. If this turns out to be the real deal, we’re looking at more squared off corners, but, aside from that, we’re still seeing the good old Samsung design, with the home button on the center of the bottom part. We’re guessing capacitive buttons are a go, to its left and right, and the top features the webcam as well as places for the sensors. The report claims dimensions similar to the Note II, but with a larger screen (hence, smaller bezels). On a different, but still related ...
