No, it doesn’t look like the Moto G4 and G4 Plus will ever get Android Oreo updates

The popular Moto G4 and G4 Plus aren't even 18 months old yet and they're still decently powerful, but their odds of scoring Oreos are slimmer and slimmer.

Unlocked Moto G4 Plus reportedly updated to Nougat stateside, and not a moment too soon

Lenovo technically got the Nougat ball rolling for the G4 duo in October 2016 “internationally”, but the US Moto G4 Plus is only now scoring the update.

Moto G5 (or G5 Play) strongly expected to feature 5-inch FHD screen, SD430 SoC

In addition to one or two 5.5-inch Full HD Moto G5 variants, Lenovo is also definitely working on at least one 5-inch 1080p flavor.

Amazon’s latest batch of Cyber Monday deals includes cool savings on Moto Z, Garmin and Fitbit wearables

After previewing 35 full days of mad Black Friday shopping, Amazon kicked off the “Turkey 5” deal bonanza with a sweet discount on a high-end VR bundle, quickly spreading the love to smartphone and wearable enthusiasts, then offering a sneak peek at “more than 75,000” marked-down products during the week of Cyber Monday.

Confused much? It’s probably best to live in the moment, and don’t hesitate to pull the trigger on an Amazon.com bargain whenever you can get it, not thinking about what might or might not be around the corner.

Especially today, when an unlocked modular Moto Z phone, complete with 64GB internal storage and a US warranty, costs $499.99 instead of $699.99. Outside of Verizon-locked and select Moto Mod bundle promotions, this is most definitely the 5.5-incher’s lowest price yet, unlikely to go any lower in the near future.

The same pretty much goes for a number of intelligent Garmin and Fitbit wearable devices, including the $45 Vivofit 2 ($25 off), $160 Forerunner 225 (30 percent or so off), $60 Flex 2, $77 Charge HR, $85 Alta, and $128 Blaze. Then there’s the 16GB Moto G4 Plus (non-Prime-exclusive), available for $200 after a limited-time $50 trim, $179 Asus ZenFone 3 Laser (20 bucks off), and of course, a bunch of lightning deals coming “as often as every five minutes” all week long.

Best Buy’s new and old Cyber Monday deals are for everyone

As always, Best Buy was one of the most generous US retailers on Thanksgiving and during the “Black Friday weekend”, not to mention many of its super-compelling holiday deals were available early in limited quantities.

And many still are for Cyber Monday, with several more inaugurated today and up for grabs just in the next few hours. Looking for a couple of solid bets at a quick glance? That’s where we come in, to tell you the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is $100 off list across the board, starting at $700 instead of $800 in a Wi-Fi-only 32GB configuration.

Don’t have that much to spend? Maybe a $170 64GB Apple TV will tickle your fancy, seeing as how it’s discounted by a rare $30 off its regular price. Ultra-affordable Android smartphone enthusiasts can perhaps pick up a Verizon prepaid Moto G4 Play at an all-time low $35, or if they’d rather go the unlocked route, a $100 Asus ZenFone 3 Max or $230 64GB Moto G4 Plus.

Meanwhile, the unlocked Sony Xperia XA and ZTE Axon 7 are not just $50 off, also hooking you up with free $50 and $30 gift cards respectively. Stylish wearable fans can save up to 60 percent on “select” Fossil Q Grant models, and last but not least, modular Moto Z phones purchased on Verizon monthly installment plans come with gratis speaker and battery charger add-ons, as well as $100 savings. Let’s just hope there’s still something in the bank after Black Friday… week.

Amazon lets you save up to $90 on Prime exclusive Moto G4 for limited time

In the market for a robust budget-conscious Android smartphone this gift-giving season? The popular Moto G4 family includes three such stellar options, and if you’re a proud member of the Amazon Prime club, you can nab the “standard” 32GB SKU for an all-time low price today.

Lockscreen offers and (discreet) ads bring the non-Play, non-Plus 5.5-incher down to just $139.99 with plenty of internal storage space, as well as microSD support. The non-Prime 32GB Moto G4 variant normally costs around $230, so you’re looking at pretty massive $90 savings here.

If you want to cough up even less, the fourth-generation Moto G4 Prime Exclusive Edition goes for $129.99 with 16GB local digital hoarding room, down from a $200 list price. But you’ll probably agree 10 extra bucks are money well spent to double that modest ROM.

Meanwhile, the unlocked low-end Moto G4 Play for all (i.e. not just Amazon Prime subscribers) will set you back $130 after a small $20 discount, and a G4 Plus, again in a non-Prime configuration, can be yours in exchange for $200 with 16GB storage ($50 off list), or $230 when you get a spacious 64GB ROM ($70 savings in store).

Not exactly the Black Friday deals of a lifetime, which is why they’re not explicitly said to expire later today, but you should still hurry if they tickle your fancy.

Korean LG G5 units get Android Nougat first, other territories waiting

For some reason, LG has decided to push out a press release proclaiming that Android Nougat has arrived for the G5. That is, for G5 units in South Korea.

“While LG G5 owners in Korea are the first to receive the OS upgrade, they will be followed by customers in the Americas, Asia and other markets in the weeks to come,” the company stated.

One leaked tell for when we could expect the upgrade for the G5 in Australia targeted mid-November. Furthering the software’s spread could take several weeks.

Notably, LG mentioned that it  “has the distinction of being the first company after Google to offer Nougat as an upgrade to an existing smartphone running Android Marshmallow.”

Contrary to that statement, Motorola sent out final Android Nougat OTAs in India to the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus last month. And that was only a few dozen hours after launching a soak test in Brazil.

This is not a drill: Android 7.0 Nougat rolls out for Moto G4 and G4 Plus in India

With Google barely able to upgrade its own Nexus 9 LTE and original N6 to 7.0 Nougat a couple of weeks back, and the Nexus 6P stuck with 6.0 Marshmallow until early September, it felt reasonable to assume third-party OEMs would take even more time than usual “optimizing” the latest (and greatest) OS flavor. But somehow, it ...
