Samsung brings a trio of 5G-ready Galaxy A-series phones to the US

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Samsung has brought a trio of 5G-ready budget phones to the US market – the Galaxy A52 5G, Galaxy A42 5G, and Galaxy A52 5G. Now, all three phones have already gone on sale in a bunch of other markets, and are finally making their way stateside. The Galaxy A52 5G and A32 5G, in particular, introduce a new design that Samsung is now marketing with much fervor. They are targeted at young smartphone users by offering them in bright colors and some interesting hardware, especially in the camera department. Heck, I’ll just outline what Samsung is specifically targeting – screen quality, camera, and battery life.

Samsung Galaxy A52

Galaxy A52 5G

Starting with the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G, it comes armed with a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED panel with an FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 800 nits of peak brightness. More importantly, it is the first non-flagship Samsung phone with a 120Hz display. Inside, you’ll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G keeping things in motion, ticking alongside 6 gigs of RAM and 120GB of onboard storage. Samsung has equipped the device with a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging support, while authentication is handled by an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The camera department is where things get interesting. The quad lens array at the back includes a 64MP main snapper with OIS. It is accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5MP macro shooter, and another 5MP unit for collecting depth information. For selfies and video calling duties, you get a 32MP main camera with a ton of tricks to play with.

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G

The Galaxy A52 5G runs Android 11-based One UI 3 skin out-of-the-box, with Samsung promising four years of assured updates. The phone comes with an IP67-certification for dust and water resistance, while color options on the table are purple, blue, white, black.

Pricing and availability: The Galaxy A52 5G starts at $499.99, and will be up for grabs from AT&T, Metro by T-Mobile, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and the official Samsung store as well.

Samsung Galaxy A42 5G

Samsung Galaxy A42 5G

A notch down the product hierarchy sits the Galaxy A42 5G that was originally launched back in September last year. It features a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with an HD+ resolution, which is quite disappointing. It relies on the same Snapdragon 750G SoC that also powers the Galaxy A523 5G. There is 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage that you can further expand via a microSD card. A large 5,000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging keeps the lights on.

The quad-camera setup at the back includes a 48MP main shooter, an 8MP ultrawide angle shooter, a 5MP macro camera, a 5MP depth sensor. On the front sits a 20MP selfie camera housed in a U-shaped notch. Notably, Samsung’s official press material mentions support for both mmWave and Sub-6GHz 5G, while the pricier Galaxy A52 5G misses out on the faster mmWave flavor of 5G.

Pricing and availability: Galaxy A42 5G costs $399.99, and it’ll be available from Samsung and Verizon starting tomorrow. As for color options, you can choose between Prism Dot Black, Prism Dot White, and Prism Dot Grey trims.

Samsung Galaxy A32 5G

Samsung Galaxy A32 5G

This one is the first sub-$300 device from Samsung to offer 5G support, and is actually the most affordable one to do so. Starting with the design, Galaxy A32 5G follows in the footsteps of the pricier Samsung Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72. It offers a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a v-shaped notch at the top, and comes equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that offers support for 15W fast charging.

At the back, you’ll find a 48MP (f/1.8) main camera, sitting alongside an 8MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide angle shooter, a 5MP (f/2.4) macro camera, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor. To take care of selfies and video calls, Samsung has equipped this one with a 13MP (f/2.2) front camera. The fingerprint sensor is positioned on the side, embedded in the power button.

Galaxy A32 5G

Pricing and availability: The Galaxy A32 5G starts at $279.99 and will be up for grabs from Cricket, Metro by T-Mobile, and T-Mobile starting April 9. You get to choose between black, blue, violet, and white colors for this one.

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G offers the luxury of a 120Hz screen on tight budget

At last, the leaks can finally stop now. Samsung has just unveiled the Galaxy A52 mid-ranger in two flavors – 4G and 5G. Both the variants share the same design and a lot of their internal hardware too, save for the processor, screen refresh rate, and memory configuration. Let’s start with the design first, which can best be described as clean and minimal.

Samsung has tried to recreate what Apple did with the iPhone 11 – almost blending the camera island with the rest of the rear panel, and we’re not complaining. The surface has a hazy matte finish, and to jazz things up, the company is offering Galaxy A52 in four colors – blue, white, black, and a cool purple trim.

samsung galaxy a52 white purple

Let’s talk about the innards. The 6.5-inch Super AMOLED offers an FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution, 800 nits of peak brightness, and a centered hole-punch that follows the Infinity-O design philosophy. The panel on Galaxy A52’s 4G model offers a 90Hz refresh rate, while the 5G variant takes things up a notch up by going for a 120Hz display. So far, 120Hz screens have been exclusive to Samsung flagships, so this one’s a neat upgrade.

Four cameras at the back, led by a 64MP snapper with OIS

Inside, you’ll find Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G (rumored) powering the 4G model, paired with 4GB / 6GB / 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB storage. The 5G variant, on the other hand, has been armed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC (rumored) ticking alongside 6GB / 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of storage. A thoughtful convenience is the ability to expand the onboard storage via a microSD card, all the way up to 1TB.

You’ll find four cameras at the back, headlined by an optically stabilized 64MP main camera. It sits alongside a 12MP ultra-wide snapper, a 5MP macro camera, and another 5MP unit for depth sensing. A 32MP shooter is there to take care of selfies and video calls. A cool camera trick is that you can extract 8MP stills from 4K video recorded by the phone. Notably, Samsung is promising four years of assured software updates for the phone.

4,500mAh battery, four colors to choose from, and an IP67-certified build

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A52 with a 4,500mAh battery, while authentication is handled by an in-display fingerprint sensor. The device runs Android 11-based One UI 3 skin out-of-the-box, and supports a music share feature that allows simultaneous playback on two sets of wireless earbuds. Also, the device comes with an IP67-certification for dust and water resistance.

On to the most important part  – pricing. The 4G variant of Samsung Galaxy A52 will cost you €349 for the base model. And if you’re making an upgrade to the 5G model, it will evaporate at least €429 from your bank account. The impressive Samsung mid-ranger is now up for grabs from the official Samsung UK website.

How to watch the Samsung Galaxy Awesome UnPacked event today

Samsung is hosting an Unpacked event today, March 17. This is a bit unusual since the company only hosts two Unpacked events per year – one for the Galaxy S series in the first half of the year and the other for the Galaxy Note series in the second half of the year. This time around, we are just three months into the year, and Samsung is already hosting its second Unpacked event.

The Samsung Galaxy Awesome Unpacked event will commence at 10 AM ET today, March 11. It will be livestreamed through the Samsung Newsroom site and Samsung’s official YouTube channel. You can also watch the Galaxy Awesome Unpacked event below –

Samsung is tipped to launch the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 at its Galaxy Awesome Unpacked event. The Galaxy A52 is rumored to feature a Super AMOLED display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. It could be powered by the Snapdragon 750G SoC. The smartphone is said to sport a quad rear camera setup that could be led by a 64MP primary camera. It is rumored to be accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle snapper, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front might lie a 32MP selfie shooter.

Further, it could pack a 4,500mah battery. The smartphone is tipped to be made out of plastic. However, it could be IP67 certified for dust and water resistance. It is likely to run Android 11 with One UI 3.1 out of the box. As per the rumors, the Galaxy A52 5G will be priced at $499 in the US, while the 4G version of the device will be a good $100 cheaper. It could be made available in Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Blue color options.

The Galaxy A72 is likely to share the design language with elements such as an Infinity-O display with a centered hole-punch and similar camera module aesthetics at the back.

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G gets video unboxing ahead of March 17 launch

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Samsung has scheduled an Unpacked event on March 17 where the company is heavily rumored to launch two phones – Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72. However, the two phones have been leaked extensively in the past couple of months, revealing everything from their design and specs to their rough asking price. And if there was still some surprise element left, it just got spoilt too – thanks to a full-fledged unboxing video of the Galaxy A52 5G.

The video comes courtesy of a YouTube channel named Moboaesthetics, and it appears to show a unit of the Galaxy A52 5G sold in the MEA market. Interestingly, an online retailer from Saudi Arabia listed the phone for sale ahead of its official launch earlier this month. Coming back to the unboxing video, it shows the upcoming phone rocking a gorgeous black paintjob that looks quite clean in a minimalist fashion. The SIM slot – with space for a microSD card for storage expansion – is located alongside the top edge.

The video also confirms some of the phone’s key specifications such as its 120Hz AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor under the hood, 4,500mAh battery, and a 32MP front camera. It also confirms previous leaks regarding its quad rear camera setup that includes an optically-stabilized 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle snapper, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor.

Despite the phone’s premium looks, the unboxing video reveals that the Galaxy A52 5G’s rear panel is made out of plastic. On the bright side though, the build is IP67 certified, which means it can survive a few accidental liquid spills and dust exposure. For authentication, Samsung has equipped the phone with an in-screen fingerprint sensor. The phone can be seen running One UI 3.1 based on Android 11 out of the box, while the model number is SM-A526B/DS.

As per previous leaks, the Galaxy A52 5G will also come in a host of bright colors that will be officially marketed as Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Blue. A fresh leak suggests that the Galaxy A52 5G will be priced at $499 in the US, while the 4G version of the device will be a good $100 cheaper.

Samsung has just announced that its next Unpacked event is happening on March 17. If the history of ‘AWESOME’ keyphrase in the context of Samsung ad campaigns is anything to go by, we are expecting the launch of new Galaxy A-series mid-rangers. And if you’ve been following Samsung news lately, you might already know the two devices that are about to make their debut at the next Unpacked event – the Galaxy A52 5G and the Galaxy A72.

As per a leakster with a fairly solid track record, the Galaxy A52 and A72 will indeed make an appearance at the upcoming Unpacked event. Over the past few weeks, the two phones have been leaked extensively – especially the Galaxy A52 5G – and have appeared on Samsung’s support pages as well, complete with official renders in tow. Both the phones share a lot of their design elements such as an Infinity-O display with a centered hole-punch and similar camera module aesthetics at the back.

Talking about specifications, the Galaxy A52 will reportedly come equipped with a 6.5-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. If the leaks are true, it will be the first non-flagship Samsung phone to rock a 120Hz AMOLED display. Under the hood, you’ll find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 750G paired with up to 8 gigs of RAM and 256GB of on-device storage.

The quad rear camera set-up of Galaxy A52 5G will reportedly include a 64MP main snapper, assisted in its imaging duties by an 8MP wide-angle shooter, a 5MP sensor for macro photography, and a 2MP sensor for calculating depth information. There is a 32MP selfie camera on the front, while the 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging support will keep the IP67-certified phone running.

Galaxy A52 leaked live images showcase a familiar design

Samsung’s Galaxy A52 launch is just around the corner. The device was recently spotted listed by a website. Later, the official support page of the smartphone alongside the Galaxy A72 went live. Now, more live images of Galaxy A52 have appeared online. A Twitter user has uploaded several live images of the device on the social media platform.

Twitter user Ahmed Qwaider has shared a number of images of the Galaxy A52 on Twitter. These showcase the smartphone in full glory. The alleged smartphone is shown completely from front and back. Moreover, the purported retail box of the Galaxy A52 has also been leaked. It reveals that the smartphone will come with an in-box charger. The device seems to have matte finish on the back. There is a camera bump that houses four rear cameras, and an LED flash sits alongside them.

The Samsung Galaxy A52 5G is set to have a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution. It is tipped to be the first non-Samsung flagship phone to feature a 120Hz high refresh rate. Under the hood, you can expect the Qualcomm  Snapdragon 750G, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. It is likely to be IP67-certified for dust and water resistance.

Samsung leak tips S Pen support for mid-range Galaxy A-series, but we’re skeptical

Back in December last year, TM Roh – Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business – wrote in a blog post that the company will bring some of the most well-loved features of the Galaxy Note series to more devices in its lineup. That promise came to fruition with the addition of S Pen support to the Galaxy S21 Ultra. However, it appears that stylus support won’t just be limited to Samsung’s flagships. In fact, it might even make its way to the upcoming Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72 mid-rangers as well.

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G and/or Galaxy A72 might get stylus support

As per an alleged official render of the Galaxy A52 and its larger A72 sibling (via leakster @TheGalox_), the two phones are shown alongside an S Pen similar to the one Samsung offers for the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It is unclear if both the phones will be compatible with a stylus, or just the Galaxy A72 which has a bigger 6.7-inch display.

Wait, they might get more flagship tricks than just S Pen?

The tipster even mentions that two phones might get even more flagship treatment by adding features such as Google Discover Feed, Google Messages app support, 3-years of quarterly updates, and quarterly updates for another year. And these new features will reportedly be marketed heavily. It is worth noting here that the Galaxy A52 5G was briefly listed on Samsung’s official monthly update database as well.

Is the Galaxy Note series losing its exclusive stylus charm to mid-ranger now?

If the leak indeed turns out to be true, this would be a major shift for Samsung. The S Pen and its associated productivity-centric tricks have been the defining traits of the Galaxy Note series, and it is what separated it from the Galaxy S family. With Galaxy S21 Ultra getting stylus support, the lines between the two flagship phones have blurred. And if the Galaxy A-series gets stylus compatibility too, the Galaxy Note might further lose its special charm.

And to make things even more confusing, Samsung might even offer stylus support on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold3 foldable phone. On the bright side, a stylus will allow Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72 users to make the most of their 6.5-inch or larger AMOLED screens for tasks such as note-taking or doodling.

It all sounds too good to be true

Samsung Galaxy A52
Samsung Galaxy A52 (Image: Twitter / @rquandt)

But all of it sounds a bit too good to be true. Samsung Galaxy A51 was a hit for Samsung, and from what we’ve come across leaks regarding its successor – the Galaxy A52 5G might offer upgrades such as a 120Hz AMOLED display, better cameras, and 25W fast charging. And all this leaves the question – if the Galaxy A52 5G (and the Galaxy A72 too) is a worthy upgrade on its own, why add stylus support and increase the price, and that too at the cost of diminishing the Galaxy Note series’ special talent?

The leaksters are divided on this one

Needless to say, all of its sounds too good to be true at the moment. I talked with a few leaksters with a fairly reliable track record, and they can’t arrive at a consensus regarding S Pen support for the Galaxy A-series. However, the majority is inclined to believe that stylus support is not happening for Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72, at least not this year. Needless to say, all of this is a tad confusing, so do process the latest leaks with the proverbial pinch of salt.

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G and A72 listed on official support pages ahead of launch

At this point, it is no secret that Samsung is planning to launch two new mid-range smartphones called Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72. We’ve seen everything from renders and specifications to their mention on certification and official update logs. In fact, an online retailer even listed one of them for sale earlier this week ahead of the official launch. If there was still something left, the official Samsung support page for the two phones has now gone live.

The support page for Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72 has appeared on the Samsung UAE website, complete with pictures of the two phones. We get a glimpse at a familiar design with a hole-punch at the top, in line with Samsung’s Infinity-O design language. Actually, the two upcoming phones look identical from the front.

As per previous leaks, the Galaxy A52 will offer a 6.5-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, similar to the flagship Galaxy S21 range. Notably, the Galaxy A52 5G will be the first non-flagship Samsung phone to come equipped with a 120Hz display.

Inside, you’ll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G tickling alongside up to 8 gigs of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The quad-camera setup at the back will be headlined by a 64MP primary camera, flanked by an 8MP wide-angle snapper, a 5MP sensor for macro photography, and a 2MP depth camera. There is a 32MP selfie shooter on the IP67-certified device, while a 4,500mAh battery will keep the lights on, complete with support for 25W fast charging.

Coming to the Galaxy A72, it will reportedly pack a 6.7-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G will run things under the hood, paired with 6 gigs of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. The imaging hardware is said to include a 64MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 5MP macro shooter, and a 5MP depth sensor as well.
