Apple to raise price of apps and in-app purchases in India, Brazil, and more countries

As part of new taxes and foreign exchange rates, Apple is raising prices on the App Store. The price of apps and in-app purchases will increase in Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Russia, and South Africa. These changes exclude auto-renewable subscriptions. Moreover, Apple will be updating these prices in Iceland and Albania to align with pricing used in other markets selling in U.S. dollars with value-added tax. However, there is no mention of services like Apple Music and iCloud subscription, and we don’t know if they will also have the price readjusted.

In a blog, Apple explains that prices in the App Store have been readjusted in these countries due to the exchange rate of local currencies, as well as an increase in taxes. The company said, “when taxes or foreign exchange rates change, we sometimes need to update prices on the App Store. In the next few days, prices of apps and in-app purchases (excluding auto-renewable subscriptions) on the App Store will increase in Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Russia, and South Africa.

The price of Apple Music and iCloud subscription remains unchanged.

Apple says that in India, the readjustment includes an equalization levy of 2% in addition to the existing goods and services tax of 18%. On the other hand, in Indonesia, there’s a new 10% tax for foreign developers. If you are a developer, you can access the new price list for these countries, and find out how your apps will be affected. However, if you offer subscriptions, you can choose to preserve prices for existing subscribers.

Apple is yet to specify when the new prices will be applied for users. Once the new changes go into effect, the Pricing and Availability section of My Apps will be updated, Further, the users’ proceeds will be adjusted accordingly and calculated based on the tax-exclusive price.

Huawei could be working on a foldable phone with clamshell design

Now let’s talk Huawei as the company has launched two different foldables with the Mate X and the Mate Xs but, the company really hasn’t tried a different form factor. Well, according to a new patent from April, it looks like they’re ready to compete with the Z Flip and the RAZR. This new patent shows a clamshell foldable with a main display and frame that looks pretty similar to the Z Flip with the sort of boxy design and bezels. Really, where the differences kick in is when you close it as, it brings a significantly larger outer display, right next to the dual camera module. Again, the hinge design also looks like the Z Flip but, I think this cover display makes much more sense than the viewfinder we get for the Z Flip, let’s see if Huawei manages to pull this off because it would be cool to see. I think there are certain things that are more important than having a phone fold right now, but we’ll see how that evolves.

Apple to launch AirPods and AirPods Pro upgrade in 1H 2021: Report

Up next is Apple, and this time because we have to admit it’s been a bit since we’ve seen a new pair of AirPods. We were hoping to see something at the past couple of events and that seems delayed. Now we have a new report rom Bloomberg that claims that we’ll get the 3rd Gen AirPods and the 2nd Gen Pros in 2021. The report claims that Apple is working on two new models of the current AirPod line up, meaning this isn’t about the Studios. Apparently the regular ones will be getting redesigned to look more like the Pros with a shorter stem and the replaceable ear tips, but sadly there will be no noise cancellation and “Pro” features. Moving on to the Pros, they’re working on making them more compact, probably by removing the Stem and giving them a more rounded shape, similar to what we get from Samsung. Cupertino is apparently putting a brand new chip in these, and working to improve battery life. Finally, the report mentions we will be getting these in the first half of 2021. You already know me, I hate the first gen AirPods, but actually love the AirPods Pro so I am looking forward to some new ones.

Patents reveal possible uses for Apple’s upcoming AirTags

Speaking of things from Apple that we might be close to, let’s move on to the AirTags. These were heavily rumored before Apple’s iPhone Event but, due to different reasons they did not make the cut. Well, now we have two patent applications filed by Apple for “Wirelessly Locatable Tag” and a “Fastener with a Retention Ring”. The patents reveal that this is a “small, conveniently shaped device that can be attached to objects which features a robust design that ensures reliable use in different conditions and environments.” The design pretty much looks like if the Apple Watch charger was a Tile tag with a metallic disk at the bottom, if that makes sense. The patents also show different usage scenarios, like for AR gaming, to monitor your posture and more by putting it on a watch-like casing. There’s no true way to know if these are specifically for the AirTags but, the similarities are definitely there. LoveToDream also shared that we would be getting these in two sizes, one small and a bigger model. But, finally moving on to some new Jon Prosser tweets, he mentioned that the final Performance Testing for AirTags will finish on November 6th and after this, products usually ship within 30 days. This makes it look like we’ll be getting these at Apple’s November Event which will focus on ARM Macs. Not exactly sure if both products will be related, but it only that November event more interesting.

Two budget OnePlus Nord phones make their way to Europe and North America

Now let’s talk OnePlus. You saw my review of the 8T, there’s a lot to love, but then a lot that’s hard to forgive for the price at least in the US. That said, if you remember the company went back to the mid-range segment earlier this year with the Nord and now, they’re expanding the line up. The company just announced two new phones with the Nord N10 5G and the Nord N100 which will be available in North America and Europe. Let’s start off with the Nord N100 which is the lower end model. It brings a 6.52in display, powered by the Snapdragon 460, as well as 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and a 5000 mAh battery. It rocks a triple camera setup at the back which consists of a 13MP main sensor, a 2MP bokeh lens, and a 2MP macro, yay I guess. The good thing is that this phone will go for £179, yeah you heard that right. But, let’s move on to the Nord N10 5G which brings a 6.49in FHD+ display running at 90Hz. It is powered by the Snapdragon 690 SoC which is a 5G chip, along with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage and a 4300 mAh battery. This one brings a quad camera array with a 64MP main lens, an 8MP ultra wide and two 2MP sensors. This one will cost you a crazy £329, and I say crazy because those are some pretty good specs. We still don’t have pricing for North America as well as availability dates so, we’ll keep you posted.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra might pack a 108MP camera, 40MP selfie shooter, 5000mAh battery

Samsung Galaxy S21 will arrive with new color options

And finally the hottest news today have to do with stuff from 2021, because it seems Samsung is planning to hit the ground early with either the S21 or S30, whatever that name is going to be. Now, we have a full list of leaked specs for the S21 Ultra from 91Mobiles. According to the, it will bring a 6.8in AMOLED display with 2K resolution, and either running at 120Hz or 144Hz. It’ll be powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 or their own Exynos 2100 SoC along with a 5000 mAh battery, no word on RAM and storage just yet. Moving on to the cameras, we should be getting an updated version of the 108MP lens, but it doesn’t mention any of the other sensors at the back. However, it does say we’ll be getting a 40MP selfie shooter. According to Ross Young, the color variants for the S21 line will be Gray, Pink, Violet, White, Black and Silver, with some of them being exclusive to certain models. Multiple rumors hint to this phone bringing S Pen support, at least for the Ultra variant. Remember we should be getting these around late January, early February, which is why the leaks are ramping up so quick.

Facebook Gaming, a new cloud gaming service has been announced

Cloud gaming has become more popular in the last couple of years, so it is natural to see that several big names in the gaming industry have been aiming to get their piece of the pie. We have some interesting options from Microsoft, Nvidia, Google, Amazon, and more, but today we welcome a service that doesn’t necessarily come from a huge name in the gaming world, but it just may get to be one in the future, as the social networking giant has now announced its new cloud gaming service called Facebook Gaming.

Facebook has officially announced its new cloud gaming service called Facebook Gaming. Jason Rubin, VP of Play, Facebook said that they’re excited to announce the beta for cloud-streaming gamins on their new platform, which will start with a range of mobile-native games in Android APK formats. He also expressed that Facebook isn’t trying to replace your favorite gaming hardware, as it believes that cloud gaming will increase the options to access great games.

“Today we’re announcing that Facebook Gaming has launched several cloud-streamed games in the Facebook app and on browser — playable instantly, with no downloads required. We recently had 200,000 people playing our cloud-streamed games per week in limited regions, so while it’s not exactly a secret, I’m excited to lay out what we’re building.

“Cloud game streaming promises to deliver unprecedented access to games across every screen. And while we’re thrilled to play a part in that future, that future is a ways off. So before we talk about our aspirations, let me start with what we’re not doing. Cloud gaming announcements are prone to hype, so I’m going to speak openly from the outset.”

First, Facebook will focus on free-to-play games, including titles such as:
Asphalt 9: Legends
Mobile Legends: Adventure
PGA TOUR Golf Shootout
Solitaire: Arthur’s Tale
WWE SuperCard

Unfortunately, iOS users will miss out on the action, so this service will be limited at first to Android and web players. The main reason behind this decision is because “Apple treats games differently and continues to exert control over a very precious resource.” However, there’s also open internet, so Apple users could still get to play through Safari. To see the complete announcement, follow this link, and tell us what you think about Facebook’s decision to enter cloud gaming services?

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 to include a pop-up camera?

Samsung may have some exciting changes planned for its next foldable. A World Intellectual Property Office application was published some days ago, and it contains images suggesting that the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 may arrive with a new pop-up camera system.

It seems that Samsung is or was planning on including a pop-up camera in its foldable phones. The company filed an application at the WIPO back in April, where we can clearly see a device featuring a pop-up mechanism inside one of the sides of the foldable phone, which could mean that the next Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 may arrive without an Infinity-O selfie camera. However, it could also mean that this design was planned for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold but got scratched before it became the phone’s final design.

This last possibility may seem more accurate since the phone’s sketches look almost identical to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, except for the lack of the punch hole selfie camera. What’s curious is how the device would seemingly allow you to activate this pop-up mechanism even when the phone was closed, meaning that it could also, eventually, replace the main rear-facing camera.

Now, Samsung may have decided to pass on this design since this would give an already pricey device more expensive moving parts, which would also increase the overall price tag of the device. Let’s also remember that rumors suggest that Samsung is already working on giving us a device with an under-display selfie camera, which would make this mechanism unnecessary in the end. We have also seen rumors claiming that Samsung may also change the technology used in its Galaxy Z Fold displays to finally give us a foldable device with stylus support, as well as a more durable folding Ultra-Thin Glass display.

Apple to launch AirPods and AirPods Pro upgrade in 1H 2021: Report

Apple is planning to upgrade its truly wireless earphones lineup. A Bloomberg report says that the company could launch the 3rd gen AirPods and 2nd gen AirPods Pro in 2021. Further, it could also be working on a third HomePod model, which is said to sit in between the HomePod and recently launched HomePod Mini.

The report cites “people familiar with the plans” and goes on to say that Apple is working on two new models of its AirPods lineup. Both will be an upgrade over the current AirPods and AirPods Pro.

Reportedly, the design of 3rd gen Apple AirPods will be similar to the current AirPods Pro. This means it will have a shorter stem and replaceable ear tips. The company is touted to be working on improving the battery life of the device. Despite the design, the upcoming AirPods will not have higher-end AirPods Pro features like noise-cancellation.

Both the upcoming AirPods could embed an all-new wireless chip.

As for the Apple AirPods Pro, the tech giant is planning to make the earbuds more compact by eliminating the short stem that currently sticks out from the bottom. The said design is in the testing phase with a more rounded shape that fills more of a user’s ear. It is said to be similar to the designs from Samsung, Amazon, and Google.

The report goes on to say that integrating noise-cancellation, wireless antennas and microphones into a smaller AirPods Pro casing has proved challenging during development. It could result in a “less ambitious design” when the product is finalized.

The AirPods upgrade could be launched in the first half of 2021. Moreover, both these devices could be powered by a new wireless chip.

While Samsung hasn’t revealed anything regarding its next flagship, the Galaxy S21 series is rumored to consist of a vanilla model, a ‘Plus’ variant, and an ‘Ultra’ version. The design of the trio has appeared online in one form or the other. Now, key specifications of the Galaxy S21 Ultra have leaked online.

Chrome OS could get a dark mode soon

Dark mode has been one of the most popular features on mobile devices in recent years. After Android, Windows, iOS, and macOS, Chrome OS could finally be getting a system-wide dark mode soon. While the OS uses a light theme by default, it already has random dark dark elements, which includes the launcher and the shelf. The latest development comes from Android Police that reports the feature was spotted recently in the Chrome OS Canary channel.

To recall, Google tried to bring dark mode to Chrome OS but it couldn’t. For the unaware, Google introduced a flag in Chrome 78, which forced web content to use a dark theme on all platforms including Windows, Android, and macOS, but enabling it on Chrome OS caused webpages to crash. Plus, the file manager, and Chrome OS Settings page failed to load. You couldn’t revert the flag to default and access your files. Hence, the dark mode on Chrome OS was implemented back then, and Google promptly pulled the flag out in a hotfix update. However, the company might finally roll out dark mode on Chrome OS soon.

How to enable dark mode on Chrome OS?

To enable dark mode on Chrome OS, you need to copy and paste chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark and chrome://flags/#enable-webui-dark-mode as the URL. In the web page, you’ll be required to enable both flags from the drop-down menu. Further, to make Chrome OS darker, you can enable chrome://flags/#dark-light-mode.

As a result, the system apps as well as the browser will transform into a near-black color that suites the theme. While some UI elements are still not themed, the report says that the new theme looks a lot more polished than when it briefly appeared about a year ago.

MagSafe chargers mark iPhone 12 cases, and don’t work well with older iPhone models

Well, it seems that Apple should’ve stuck with wired chargers, as well as including these in the box of the new iPhone 12 lineup. Instead, Cupertino decided to remove power adapters and other accessories from the latest iPhones and even the previous iPhone 11 and iPhone SE models to make way for faster 20W chargers (which are sold separately) and a new MagSafe wireless charger (also sold separately) that may give its users more problems than solutions.

According to a new Apple support document, the new MagSafe Charger isn’t as great as Apple had expected. First, this wireless charger may cause the case of your iPhone 12 to show circular imprints from the contact when placed on the charger. Now, the guys over at MacRumors already have posted a photo of this circular imprint on an Apple Silicone case thanks to one of its readers, but it seems that leather cases could be affected even more by these markings.

Apple’s support document gives the following information:

  • Apple says users should not place credit cards, security badges, passports, or key fobs between the iPhone and MagSafe Charger, because this might damage magnetic strips or RFID chips in those items.
  • Apple says that if an iPhone’s battery gets too warm while charging with MagSafe, software might limit charging above 80 percent.
  • If an iPhone has both a MagSafe Charger attached and a Lightning cable plugged in, charging will occur via Lightning only.
  • To clean the MagSafe Charger, Apple says to first disconnect the charger from power and brush off any debris from the metal ring. Then, Apple says to use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth to wipe the silicone middle of the charging area. Apple says window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide should not be used.

To make matters worse, it seems that it will only charge iPhone 12 models properly with up to 15W. MagSafe wireless chargers don’t seem to work well with older iPhone models, as the guys over at MacRumors did a couple of tests to show that this charger would only deliver 13 percent charge to the iPhone XS Max in 30 minutes, which is less than the 25 percent charge delivered by a 7.5W Qi charger in the same time.

In other words, if you’re getting an iPhone 12, just get the 20W fast charger, and don’t spend $39 on a MagSafe charger if you don’t want circular markings on your case, and if you have an older iPhone model, you’re better off getting a regular Qi wireless charger.

Huawei could be working on a foldable phone with clamshell design

It seems that Huawei is getting ready to compete against the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and the Motorola RAZR. The Chinese tech giant filed a foldable phone patent with a clamshell design back in April, and it looks a bit familiar.

We are still waiting to see the successor of the Mate Xs. Still, it seems that Huawei is more interested in delivering a new device that can go against the other foldable phones in the market that features a clamshell design. New patents found at the China National Intellectual Property Office shows what could be one of Huawei’s future foldable phones.

The device may look like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip at first glance, but this phone would have a major advantage, as its design shows a large external display. This means that this phone could be able to give its users more than just a couple of notifications at the same time, and since it’s placed on the same back panel as the dual camera module, we can also expect it to help while taking selfies.

It’s also a safe guess that this dual camera will also serve as the phone’s main camera, as there are no other cameras found in these images. This could also mean that we could get some awesome selfies with this device, as Huawei phones are well-known for packing good cameras. We don’t know if this device will have a small gap between both halves when closed, as we don’t get an image to illustrate the phone’s appearance closed from the side.

However, we must also remember that this is just a patent, and nobody can confirm that Huawei is indeed working on a foldable phone with a clamshell design. The only thing that’s certain right now is that Huawei has recently launched its latest flagship, the Mate 40 series, and it looks rather interesting.
