Microsoft removes Adobe Flash Player with the latest Windows 10 update

Last month, Microsoft released a timeline for the end of Adobe Flash. It said that the Flash removal tool would be an optional update in Windows Update by early 2021. Now, within a few weeks, Microsoft has released a new update that removes the Adobe Flash version bundled into Windows 10. However, it does not remove any standalone versions you’ve installed yourself. Plus, it doesn’t remove Flash from your browsers, either.

The optional Catalog update paves the way for the eventual end of Flash in 2021. With the new Windows 10 update, Flash support will officially end this year. There will eb no more updates for Internet Explorer 11 and the legacy (non-Chromium) version of Edge by December. Further, the latest version of Edge that uses Google’s Chrome engine, will have its Flash support end in January 2021.

Google and Adobe have already said that they would end Flash support for Chrome, and Flash development in 2020, respectively.

While Google has said that it would end Flash support for Chrome, Adobe itself has announced that it will end Flash development in 2020. Microsoft says, “We are releasing this removal update in advance of end of support to help customers test and validate their environments for any impact that might occur by the removal of Adobe Flash Player. Also, if another security update for Adobe Flash Player is released, customers who take this removal update will still be offered the security update.”

The update is optional as of now, but it will become a recommended update and in the middle of 2021. The company will also be removing Flash-related developer frameworks, group policies, and user interfaces from legacy Edge and IE11. Once installed, this update cannot be uninstalled.

Apple iPhone 12 series supports reverse wireless charging, but it’s hidden: FCC filing

Reverse wireless charging is one of the features that has become a norm on flagship Android devices. The tech can be used to charge accessories like TWS earphones by simply placing them at the back of the phone. The feature was rumored to be included on the iPhone 11 lineup, but that didn’t happen. Plus, there were no rumors for reverse wireless charging being supported on the iPhone 12 series, and Apple didn’t mention it in their launch presentation either. However, the iPhone 12 FCC filing reveals otherwise. As per the filing, the iPhone 12 could have support for reverse wireless charging, but it is hidden.

The latest development comes from VentureBeat’s Jeremy Horwitz who shared the discovery of a key phrase in the FCC filing of iPhone 12. He found that the iPhone 12’s MagSafe technology also supports a charging function at 360 kHz. It is likely the confirmation of reverse wireless charging support for accessories. Further, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg connects this finding to rumors about new AirPods coming soon.

He claims that the FCC filing could indicate support for reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 12 for the upcoming AirPods. We expect treasure diggers to hunt for more clues, and see if the functionality could be enabled ahead of its planned announcement. For the unaware, recent rumors claim that Apple is prepping to launch its AirPods and AirPods Pro successor in the first half of 2021.

The next AirPods Pro could have a more compact design by eliminating the short stem that currently sticks out from the bottom. Reportedly, the design of 3rd gen Apple AirPods will be similar to the current AirPods Pro. This means it will have a shorter stem and replaceable ear tips. Despite the design, the upcoming AirPods will not have higher-end AirPods Pro features like noise-cancellation.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, gaming laptops and more on sale today

The official news today begin with deals. As we have Samsung Galaxy Note 20, gaming laptops and more devices on sale.

UK carriers to be banned from selling locked phones

Let’s move the spotlight to Europe because, there’s something interesting going on with the carriers in the UK. It’s been the common practice that carriers have been selling locked phones to prevent you from switching out on them easily for the longest time but, apparently that will no longer be a thing. From December 2021, the UK Regulator Ofcom is banning the sale of locked phones by network operators. This information comes from a new BBC report where they mention that this rule will affect carriers like BT and EE along with their subsidiaries like Vodafone. Other carriers like O2 that don’t sell locked phones will not be affected. According to Ofcom, this allows consumers to switch out carriers in a more easier way, once they find a better deal than what they currently have. I don’t know about you, but if you’re paying for a phone, how does having it locked to a carrier make sense?

New OnePlus Watch delayed indefinitely?

Now let’s move on to OnePlus, as we do have to admit that the company has been fairly busy, launching a lot more products than it did before. That said, we do know that the launches have also included a fair bit of drama. . They got the OnePlus Buds shipment seized, Carl Pei also left the company which was a huge deal, and then the rumored OnePlus Watch was delayed. Well, let’s talk about the Watch. Max J just revealed that the device was slated to release sometime this month but was postponed indefinitely… again. Max speculates that this might be a delay due to mass production or software development. Again, the delay is for an indefinite period of time but, we do hope that they are able to figure things out. That said, if it looks like the Oppo Watch, which means that it looks like the Apple Watch, then we might understand what they mean with Indefinite.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 to include a pop-up camera?

Now let’s talk Samsung but, this time with the Z Fold, and don’t worry we’ll get to what you want to hear. We have some new patents for a Galaxy Z Fold with a pop up camera. This patent application was files back in April and, it’s kind of weird but it actually makes sense. See, instead of this being like the OnePlus 7 Pro’s conventional pop up camera, a whole piece of the frame would lift from the side of the phone, housing a triple camera module that also has other sensors, probably for facial recognition. Anyone remember the Oppo Find X? I say it makes sense because, it will work better, whether you have the phone open or closed. You can also tell that this isn’t an old patent as, it brings the newer design we got with the Z Fold 2, with the smaller bezels and the larger outer display, basically it just gets rid of the punch holes. Sadly, this is another reason to step further away from some sort of water resistance so, I’m not the biggest fan of it but, it does make sense, and I also feel like it could be a smaller module but hey.

Apple could’ve confirmed a 2020 16-inch MacBook Pro with Boot Camp update

Now before we get to the hottest news, we do have something pretty important in-between to do with the Mac and Apple Silicon. Apple will reportedly be hosting an event for these Macs next months, and now we get some new information on what they’re working on. First off, we got a new report from China, that mentions the different processors Apple has in the pipeline. The report mentions that along with the A14x that we get on iPads and on the MacBook, Apple is working on an A14T which is codenamed Mt. Jade. This A14T would be their first desktop CPU which would come on a new iMac, along with their custom GPU which is codenamed Lifuka. According to Ming Chi Kuo, this iMac should be a 24in model with a redesigned chassis, which will either launch this year in Q4 or in early 2021. On another note, Apple released an update for Boot Camp last week, where they say that the update fixes a stability issue that happens on heavy CPU load for the 16in MacBook Pro (both 2019 and 2020 models). The curious thing is that, there is no 2020 model yet, I mean I just bought one and it’s 2019. Of course, it could be a mistake but, it looks like this is one of the things we could be getting on that November 17th Event, and hey Apple did say we might still see some Intel Macs coming.

Story of the day:

Samsung to reportedly follow Apple in excluding in-box accessories from Galaxy S21

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Samsung, or should we say what Samsung is doing about Apple’s new strategies. Exactly 12 days ago, on October 15th, I stood here and I asked you guys how long did you think Samsung would go on without removing chargers from their box? We speculated a year, maybe two, but it looks like it’s already happening, yeah you heard that right. And first for context, the Galaxy Note 20 already doesn’t bring the AKG earphones in the box if you live in the US, you can get them for free but, most of the people won’t even know that. Well, according to a SamMobile report, multiple Korean news outlets are reporting that Samsung is already considering ditching both the earphones and the charger from the Galaxy S21′s box, and that move would apply to the whole line up. This would help achieve a more affordable price tag for the line up and of course, because it makes sense for their business. The question is if it’s gonna be more affordable for the consumer, cause Apple made the iPhone 12 a lot more expensive than its predecessor. Funny part is, anyone remember Samsung bragging about this on social media?

New OnePlus Watch delayed indefinitely?

It seems that things aren’t going so great over at OnePlus. The company has recently launched a couple of new budget-friendly Nord devices and its OnePlus 8T, but at the same time, the company saw how one of its founders decided to leave. Now, a new report claims that the OnePlus Watch could also be delayed, with no possible launch date in sight.

OnePlus may have some serious issues in its hands. It was rumored that the company was going to launch its new OnePlus Watch sometime this month, but instead, we received the OnePlus 8T, without a Pro version and two new OnePlus Nord devices made their way to the United States and Europe just yesterday. However, according to Max Jambor’s information over at Voice, the OnePlus Watch announcement has been postponed with any new date. There are no official reasons behind this delay, but it may end up being caused by complications with production or software development.

Now, it is also said that OnePlus had already started sending out engineering samples to telecom agencies earlier this summer, but we haven’t seen any of these devices leaked. As far as design goes, it is believed that the OnePlus Watch was going to arrive with a circular display, instead of the square display found in the OPPO Watch, which also looks very similar to the Apple Watch design.

“In a tweet, Max J teases in his usual cryptic style that the OnePlus “Wotch” will be using a circular design. While round shapes are actually pretty typical of smartwatches paired with Android smartphones, this news actually comes as a bit of a surprise.”

Maybe OnePlus decided to take a different design direction to avoid more US customs issues, as the company’s OnePlus Buds already faced some issues because they look almost identical to Apple’s AirPods.

Apple could’ve confirmed a 2020 16-inch MacBook Pro with Boot Camp update

It seems that Apple is getting close to give us a new 16-inch MacBook Pro. The latest update for Boot Camp 6.1.13 includes a reference to the upcoming 2020 MacBook Pro version, which hasn’t launched yet, and a new report suggests that we may get a new Apple Silicon iMac with a new desktop-class A14T chip next year.

Boot Camp is a utility included in Mac devices that lets users switch between macOS and Windows. Its latest update reveals that this utility will improve the compatibility of Macs with running Windows. It also mentions improvements in audio recording quality when using the boult in microphone and fixes to stability issues that occur during heavy-duty CPU load on the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019 and 2020) and 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020).

Now, the issue is that Apple hasn’t released a new 2020 16-inch MacBook Pro, which could mean that we will most likely get a 16-inch MacBook refresh in the upcoming months or that Apple just made a mistake. And since we’re already speculating, we will also mention the possibility of a new iMac with Apple Silicon that would arrive in the first half of 2021.

According to The China Times, Apple plans to give its users a new iMac with a brand new A14T chip. The iMac is said to be codenamed “Mt.Jade,” and it would be powered by its first custom-made desktop processor, codenamed “Lifuka.”

“In addition to the first Apple Silicon processor A14X for the MacBook, which is already in volume production using TSMC’s 5-nanometer technology, according to Apple’s supply chain, Apple will launch its first self-developed GPU under the research and development code name Lifuka next year, and its first desktop processor A14T under the research and development code name Mt.Jade, both produced using TSMC’s 5-nanometer process.”

Now, this report could be focused on Apple’s new A14 processor development, which could make all of this make sense. Let’s remember that rumors suggest that the first Apple devices to include Apple Silicon may be the iPad Pro and the MacBook Pro, which would include the Apple A14X processor, codenamed “Tonga.” Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already predicted that these new models would launch in the fourth quarter of 2020 or early 2021, so we could soon get a new Apple event invitation.

Let’s remember that some rumors say that Apple may be hosting a new event on November 17, where we may see the arrival of Apple’s first Mac with a custom Apple Silicon processor. Nothing stops us from believing that we may see a new 16-inch or a 13-inch MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air with Apple Silicon. Let’s also remember that rumors suggest the return of a 12-inch MacBook Pro. But only time will tell.

UK carriers to be banned from selling locked phones

Selling locked phones ensure that switching providers won’t be easy. Carriers have been selling locked phones, and half of the people who try to unlock their phones experience difficulties. According to Ofcom, these people face a long wait to receive the code needed to trigger the process and then finding that the code does not work. However, it’s all in the past now. From December 2021, you won’t have to buy locked phones as UK Regulator Ofcom is banning the sale of locked phones by network operators.

The latest development comes via a report from BBC, which says that the new rule will affect BT and its EE subsidiary, Vodafone, and Tesco Mobile. The companies seem to be taking it well as they aren’t pushing back. Vodafone said, “We stand ready to implement these changes when they come into force,” while EE added, “We’ll work with Ofcom to comply with its guidelines.” Other UK networks including O2, Three, and Virgin already only sell unlocked handsets. Hence, the new order doesn’t affect them.

According to Ofcom, consumers will find it easier to switch networks for a better deal once the new measures are in place. Plus, it will save them money since phone unlocking usually costs around £10. The UK regulator also said to give consumers accessible communications formats such as braille must always be available when requested from the same date, in December of 2021.

Additionally, networks will have to show customers a clear summary of a contract before signing starting in June 2022. It is being done to ensure that key parts aren’t hidden in the small print. Moreover, consumers will be able to get out of contracts if changes are made that weren’t originally agreed upon, which includes price hikes.

Samsung to reportedly follow Apple in excluding in-box accessories from Galaxy S21

Ahead of the iPhone 12 series launch, there were rumors saying Apple might not include the charger and AirPods in its box. That actually happened. Now, it looks like Samsung will follow in Apple’s footsteps with its next Galaxy flagship. It is being reported that the Samsung Galaxy S21 series will not include a charger and earphones in the box. The move would be ironical since Samsung’s social media team took to Facebook to make fun of Apple for not including the in-box charger with its latest flagship.

The latest development comes from SamMobile, which reports that there is precedent for Samsung not shipping earphones with a flagship smartphone. For the unaware, the Galaxy Note20 series ships without in-box AKG earphones in the US. While customers can get them for free by reaching out to customer service but not everyone who buys the phone will do that. In fact, many wouldn’t even know this option exists. It would be interesting to see if Samsung provides the charger for free to the customers who want them or sell them separately.

Will not including in-box accessories mean a cheaper price tag for the Galaxy S21 series?

To recall, Apple excluded in-box accessories for “environmental reasons.” However, the absence of accessories didn’t translate to a price cut of the latest iPhones. The iPhone 12 series still cost the same or more than its previous generation devices. Hence, it cannot be said if Samsung would offer a price cut on its next Galaxy S-flagship by not including in-box accessories. The company would be aiming to increase individual sales of its chargers. Plus, not including earphones could nudge customers towards buying the Galaxy Buds wireless earphones.

According to previous rumors, the new Galaxy S21 series could arrive early in January 2021. The CAD renders have already leaked online, and specs of Galaxy S21 Ultra have also surfaced.

Microsoft adds mouse and trackpad support to Office for iPad

Microsoft has updated Office for iPad. The new update adds support for mouse and trackpad in the iPadOS version of Office 360 that includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. To recall, Microsoft announced that it will be adding support for mouse and trackpad in Office for iPad earlier this year. Now, since the update has started rolling out, the experience is said to be similar to anyone who has used Office on a Mac or a PC, as per Microsoft. The update is rolling out in a phased manner. It is expected to reach all the users within a couple of weeks.

Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps can now take full advantage of trackpad support in iPadOS. It will give iPad users using a mouse or Apple’s new Magic Keyboard easy cursor control, fluid navigation, and precise adjustments. Users can transform the cursor into the tool they need depending on the content they are pointing to by simply moving a finger across the built-in trackpad of Magic Keyboard. Further, the mouse and trackpad can be used for common tasks like highlighting a passage of text in Word, selecting a range of cells in Excel, and moving and resizing graphics in PowerPoint.

The new update makes the iPad even more versatile and capable for getting more work done.

Microsoft is also updating the overall user experience in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It is adding new start screens and a new ribbon of feature menus. The new update is touted to provide a cleaner and more modern user experience. Microsoft says it has proven to help people more easily find what they need and focus on the task at hand. These updates are part of the design enhancements with Fluent UI. The company says it will be adding multiple document support in Excel, powerful contextual menus, and offline file support for cloud files in the coming months.

YouTube brings new gestures and playback controls to its mobile app

YouTube is bringing new features to its player page on the mobile app. The update includes the relocation of some elements, adds new features and playback controls. Previously, users needed to tap the full-screen button or rotate your phone, but there’s a new action to perform these functions now. You can enable or disable full-screen video by simply swiping up on the video window to enter full-screen and swiping down to return back to the standard player page. However, these gestures will only work if you swipe on the playback window itself.

YouTube’s mobile app is also getting an update to the video chapters, which is essentially an easier way to get to the “good part” of a video. The creators can apply timestamps to their videos and allow users to quickly jump to a specific section of a video. Based on the chapter information that the creator adds to their video’s description, they are automatically enabled as a line of timestamps and titles. Now, YouTube is adding a new list view to the video chapters. This will let you see a complete list of all the chapters included in the video. Each of them will have their own preview thumbnail. To access the list, you can tap on the chapter title in the player. The new update is making it easier for the users to navigate chapters.

The new YouTube mobile app update also brings changes to the player page. Captions button is getting more accessible with a new prominent position on mobile phones. Further, the auto-play toggle has been moved to the top of the playback window making it easier for you to turn it on or off while you’re watching a video. It will also roll out to desktop users soon. The player page improvements also include rearranged buttons and controls. Moreover, YouTube will prompt viewers with “suggested actions” when there’s a way to have a better video experience.

The new features are rolling out to users across both iOS and Android.

Shure launches the MV7 podcast microphone for $249

Shure has introduced yet another accessory for podcasters, gamers, and vocalists. The company has launched its MV7 podcast microphone, which is its first hybrid XLR/USB microphone. This means you can connect it to any computer, as well as other devices like smartphones, tablets, and game consoles, without the need for any additional gear. Plus, you can also use it with XLR audio interfaces and studio equipment. Both of these connections can record at the same time. The device comes with an intuitive design and is touted to be simple to set up and control.

Like the Shure SM7B, the MV7 is a dynamic microphone that focuses on your voice and tunes out extraneous noise. It features the company’s Voice Isolation technology that is claimed to elevate the user’s voice. Its pick-up pattern focuses solely on vocals and brings it to the forefront of recording. While a user’s voice and mic position are always fluctuating, there is an Auto Level Mode that sets gains in real-time so the output levels stay consistent.

The Shure MV7 microphone comes with a metal mounting frame that can be attached to a stand or microphone arm. There are touch controls for gain and headphone monitoring levels and to mute the microphone. At the back, it sports a micro-USB connection, XLR, and a headphone jack. The device supports USB-A and USB-C output for Mac and PX.

It can be connected to the Shure MOTIV app for desktop to offer control audio functions with various preset modes. It allows you to select your tone (Dark, Natural, or Bright), as well as select the mic distance. It is certified by the TeamSpeak VoIP solution. The Shure MV7 Podcast microphone is available in two color options of black and silver, and it is selling for $249. We’d be testing the device in our award-winning podcast, which you can check out here.
