Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, gaming laptops and more on sale today

The official news today begin with deals. As we have Samsung Galaxy Note 20, gaming laptops and more devices on sale.

UK carriers to be banned from selling locked phones

Let’s move the spotlight to Europe because, there’s something interesting going on with the carriers in the UK. It’s been the common practice that carriers have been selling locked phones to prevent you from switching out on them easily for the longest time but, apparently that will no longer be a thing. From December 2021, the UK Regulator Ofcom is banning the sale of locked phones by network operators. This information comes from a new BBC report where they mention that this rule will affect carriers like BT and EE along with their subsidiaries like Vodafone. Other carriers like O2 that don’t sell locked phones will not be affected. According to Ofcom, this allows consumers to switch out carriers in a more easier way, once they find a better deal than what they currently have. I don’t know about you, but if you’re paying for a phone, how does having it locked to a carrier make sense?

New OnePlus Watch delayed indefinitely?

Now let’s move on to OnePlus, as we do have to admit that the company has been fairly busy, launching a lot more products than it did before. That said, we do know that the launches have also included a fair bit of drama. . They got the OnePlus Buds shipment seized, Carl Pei also left the company which was a huge deal, and then the rumored OnePlus Watch was delayed. Well, let’s talk about the Watch. Max J just revealed that the device was slated to release sometime this month but was postponed indefinitely… again. Max speculates that this might be a delay due to mass production or software development. Again, the delay is for an indefinite period of time but, we do hope that they are able to figure things out. That said, if it looks like the Oppo Watch, which means that it looks like the Apple Watch, then we might understand what they mean with Indefinite.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 to include a pop-up camera?

Now let’s talk Samsung but, this time with the Z Fold, and don’t worry we’ll get to what you want to hear. We have some new patents for a Galaxy Z Fold with a pop up camera. This patent application was files back in April and, it’s kind of weird but it actually makes sense. See, instead of this being like the OnePlus 7 Pro’s conventional pop up camera, a whole piece of the frame would lift from the side of the phone, housing a triple camera module that also has other sensors, probably for facial recognition. Anyone remember the Oppo Find X? I say it makes sense because, it will work better, whether you have the phone open or closed. You can also tell that this isn’t an old patent as, it brings the newer design we got with the Z Fold 2, with the smaller bezels and the larger outer display, basically it just gets rid of the punch holes. Sadly, this is another reason to step further away from some sort of water resistance so, I’m not the biggest fan of it but, it does make sense, and I also feel like it could be a smaller module but hey.

Apple could’ve confirmed a 2020 16-inch MacBook Pro with Boot Camp update

Now before we get to the hottest news, we do have something pretty important in-between to do with the Mac and Apple Silicon. Apple will reportedly be hosting an event for these Macs next months, and now we get some new information on what they’re working on. First off, we got a new report from China, that mentions the different processors Apple has in the pipeline. The report mentions that along with the A14x that we get on iPads and on the MacBook, Apple is working on an A14T which is codenamed Mt. Jade. This A14T would be their first desktop CPU which would come on a new iMac, along with their custom GPU which is codenamed Lifuka. According to Ming Chi Kuo, this iMac should be a 24in model with a redesigned chassis, which will either launch this year in Q4 or in early 2021. On another note, Apple released an update for Boot Camp last week, where they say that the update fixes a stability issue that happens on heavy CPU load for the 16in MacBook Pro (both 2019 and 2020 models). The curious thing is that, there is no 2020 model yet, I mean I just bought one and it’s 2019. Of course, it could be a mistake but, it looks like this is one of the things we could be getting on that November 17th Event, and hey Apple did say we might still see some Intel Macs coming.

Story of the day:

Samsung to reportedly follow Apple in excluding in-box accessories from Galaxy S21

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Samsung, or should we say what Samsung is doing about Apple’s new strategies. Exactly 12 days ago, on October 15th, I stood here and I asked you guys how long did you think Samsung would go on without removing chargers from their box? We speculated a year, maybe two, but it looks like it’s already happening, yeah you heard that right. And first for context, the Galaxy Note 20 already doesn’t bring the AKG earphones in the box if you live in the US, you can get them for free but, most of the people won’t even know that. Well, according to a SamMobile report, multiple Korean news outlets are reporting that Samsung is already considering ditching both the earphones and the charger from the Galaxy S21′s box, and that move would apply to the whole line up. This would help achieve a more affordable price tag for the line up and of course, because it makes sense for their business. The question is if it’s gonna be more affordable for the consumer, cause Apple made the iPhone 12 a lot more expensive than its predecessor. Funny part is, anyone remember Samsung bragging about this on social media?

Apple could’ve confirmed a 2020 16-inch MacBook Pro with Boot Camp update

It seems that Apple is getting close to give us a new 16-inch MacBook Pro. The latest update for Boot Camp 6.1.13 includes a reference to the upcoming 2020 MacBook Pro version, which hasn’t launched yet, and a new report suggests that we may get a new Apple Silicon iMac with a new desktop-class A14T chip next year.

Boot Camp is a utility included in Mac devices that lets users switch between macOS and Windows. Its latest update reveals that this utility will improve the compatibility of Macs with running Windows. It also mentions improvements in audio recording quality when using the boult in microphone and fixes to stability issues that occur during heavy-duty CPU load on the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019 and 2020) and 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020).

Now, the issue is that Apple hasn’t released a new 2020 16-inch MacBook Pro, which could mean that we will most likely get a 16-inch MacBook refresh in the upcoming months or that Apple just made a mistake. And since we’re already speculating, we will also mention the possibility of a new iMac with Apple Silicon that would arrive in the first half of 2021.

According to The China Times, Apple plans to give its users a new iMac with a brand new A14T chip. The iMac is said to be codenamed “Mt.Jade,” and it would be powered by its first custom-made desktop processor, codenamed “Lifuka.”

“In addition to the first Apple Silicon processor A14X for the MacBook, which is already in volume production using TSMC’s 5-nanometer technology, according to Apple’s supply chain, Apple will launch its first self-developed GPU under the research and development code name Lifuka next year, and its first desktop processor A14T under the research and development code name Mt.Jade, both produced using TSMC’s 5-nanometer process.”

Now, this report could be focused on Apple’s new A14 processor development, which could make all of this make sense. Let’s remember that rumors suggest that the first Apple devices to include Apple Silicon may be the iPad Pro and the MacBook Pro, which would include the Apple A14X processor, codenamed “Tonga.” Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already predicted that these new models would launch in the fourth quarter of 2020 or early 2021, so we could soon get a new Apple event invitation.

Let’s remember that some rumors say that Apple may be hosting a new event on November 17, where we may see the arrival of Apple’s first Mac with a custom Apple Silicon processor. Nothing stops us from believing that we may see a new 16-inch or a 13-inch MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air with Apple Silicon. Let’s also remember that rumors suggest the return of a 12-inch MacBook Pro. But only time will tell.

Google finally rolls out Nearby Share wireless file transfer tool for Android phones

We seriously need for Apple’s marketing team to talk to Google’s people. Like can you imaging saying “Hey, Can you Nearby Share this to me?”. And if you don’t know what Nearby Share is, to put it in simple words, it’s AirDrop for Android, that’s literally what it is. Well, Google is finally rolling it out. It’ll be available on all Android phones running Android 6 or later, and actually some Google and Samsung phones already have it as we speak. Once you open a file, you hit the tap button and the Nearby Share will pop up, letting the people close to you get a notification to accept the file. Google also said that it will work with Chromebooks, you know like AirDrop works with Macs.

Galaxy S20 FE leak gives us our first glimpse of Samsung’s next budget flagship

We have some new leaks from Evan Blass, this time for the Galaxy S20 FE. We’re expecting this phone to launch some time in October and, this picture shows the front of the device. Now, you can tell that it kinda looks more like the Galaxy A51 instead of the S20 but it looks like Samsung won’t be cheaping out on internals. Other leaks hint to this phone bringing a 120Hz display, IP68 water and dust resistance and a 4500 mAh running the show. We’ll keep you posted once we get more details on the other internals and, you know leaks about the back of the phone as well.

Here’s your first look at the upcoming HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro flagship

And of course, yesterday we got some CAD renders of the Mate 40 from OnLeaks so naturally, now we have some for the Mate 40 Pro. It brings sort of a similar design to the regular Mate 40 but this one does bring a 6.7in waterfall display with the same dual pill-shaped punch hole we saw yesterday. At the back we have a quad camera array and, this stove looks very similar to the good old Lumia 1020 so, it looks like Huawei is trying to make a statement here. And hey, they actually hired all that team from Nokia so it is a possibility. We can’t really tell what these 4 cameras will do except for the periscope lens on the bottom left. These leaks also mention that this phone will be powered by the Kirin 1020 which will allegedly run on a 5nm process.

Apple gives the iMac a major CPU upgrade, SSDs across the lineup and a better camera

Yes, the leaks were right, Apple just updated their iMacs but not the way you think.. The whole idea of us getting a different design still seem to be in the works. Let’s focus up on the 27in iMac which received the major upgrades. Well, for starters it brings an optional 5K retina display with a new textured glass to reduce glare. The FaceTime camera is finally getting upgraded to 1080p and it uses Apple’s T2 chip for ISP tone mapping, exposure control and more. Moving on to the internals, you can get up to a 10-core, 10th generation Intel Core i9, 128GB of RAM and 8TB of SSD. When it comes to graphics it starts with an AMD Radeon Pro ,5300 with 4GB of VRAM and it goes up to a Radeon Pro 5700 XT with 16GB of GDDR6 memory. Apple also claims that they have improved the mic and the speakers for this one. This new, 27in iMac starts at $1799 and the top of the line, specked out variant will cost you a little over $8000. In addition to that the 21in iMac also got some upgrades but I’m not even gonna mention them.. Like the entry level is a dual-core i5? Like seriously what year is this? The iMac Pro also got a spec bump, and it now comes equipped with a 10-core Intel Xeon as a standard and it’ll go all the way up to an 18-core processor with up to 256GB of quad-channel ECC memory. Shipments for these products will begin later this week.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 gets fully leaked one day before its launch

Samsung gives us one more Galaxy Unpacked teaser

We’re as close as it gets to Unpacked so, the hype is at an all time high. So, Samsung just put out a new 30 second teaser. The teaser shows reads different silhouettes of the devices we’re expecting and it reads “Introducing New Powerful Experiences, Inside Galaxy Innovation. Welcome to the Next Normal” It also shows them mounting up a stage so, we don’t exactly know what to expect when it comes to the event format. Moving on to the leaks which are stronger than ever, we have a full blown high resolution gallery of the Z Fold 2 from Evan Blass showing, well everything… So yeah, when compared to the original Fold the design looks pretty slimmer, the camera array looks like the one for the Note 20 which was leaked by, Samsung. And probably the best thing is the outer display looks like what it originally should’ve been with the original Fold. Apple could launch new Intel-powered iMac this week

Apple could be preparing to launch a new iMac this week. It will be powered by an Intel processor. A redesign is unlikely to happen. The latest development comes from two rumors.

The first one suggests that Apple could announce an Intel-powered iMac as soon as this week. Earlier, it was tipped that the company will announce a new iMac at WWDC 2020, but that didn’t happen. In fact, Apple didn’t announce any new hardware at its yearly conference.

The second rumor claims that new Apple products are ready to be shipped. It comes from Twitter handle @L0vetodream, which has accurately reported details on macOS Big Sur, the new iPhone SE, new iPad Pros, and more in the past.

An unannounced iMac with a 10-core Intel i9 CPU and Radeon Pro 5300 GPU appeared in Geekbench earlier this month, which further reiterates on the rumor that it could be announced soon. The company is likely to launch its new product via a press release as it did with two new MacBook models recently.

It seems that Apple could be ‘ready to ship’ a new iMac refresh

Rumors about a new iMac refresh have been around for quite a while; some even expected Apple to present them during the last WWDC. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case, and we are still waiting for new Macs. Now, @L0vetodream has posted a new message on Twitter that suggests that Apple may soon deliver new products.

First of all, we must remind you to take the following information with a truckload of salt, since it’s just a rumor with huge speculation. A new tweet by @L0vetodream says that some products are ready to ship. This tweet gives little or no details about what to expect, but the same leaker has shared some important details about Apple devices and software. This tweet could add weight to Ming-Chi Kuo’s predictions about new, redesigned iMacs in Q3 2020. Now we only have to wait and see is the new iMacs arrive with Intel processors or Apple Silicon inside, or if we get something else before that. Let’s remember that we are also expecting Apple-branded headphones, AirTags, and a new HomePod, so we can only wait to see if new leaks give us more details about what to expect.

Apple’s first ARM-based Macs will be a MacBook Pro and a redesigned iMac

One of the biggest rumors heading into today’s WWDC event is Apple’s announcement of its transition to custom ARM-based processors for new Mac hardware. Now, as per an investor note (via Macrumors) by noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the first ARM-based hardware from Apple will be a 13-inch MacBook Pro and a redesigned iMac.

Starting with the ARM-powered 13.3-inch MacBook Pro, it will reportedly flaunt the same design as the existing Intel-based version, and will likely be launched either in the last quarter of 2020 or 2021’s first quarter. Moreover, an unspecified MacBook model with an all-new design and miniLED display will also be launched next year.

Talking about the iMac, Apple is said to launch a new Intel-based refresh later this year – the last iMac with an Intel processor. This will be followed by a new version with a 24-inch display, ARM-based custom silicon, and fresh new design. Reports claim that the ARM-based chip will deliver a performance boost anywhere between 50% to 100% over the Intel processors.

Google testing low-latency gaming mode for its upcoming ‘Sabrina’ Android TV dongle

Earlier this month we covered how Google is working on a new Android TV dongle called Sabrina. According to a new report from XDA, this device might bring a low-latency gaming mode feature, meaning it’s a replacement for the Chromecast Ultra and not the regular Chromecast. Inside a pre-installed System app called “SabrinaService” there is a reference to a feature called “ALLM” which stands for Auto Low Latency Mode which is an HDMI feature that allows a console, PC or other devices to enter low-latency mode to provide a lag-free experience. This means Sabrina would automatically turn on this feature for either Stadia or video streaming services.

Leaked iOS 14 code shows iMac schematic with slimmer bezels

There’s been a lot of buzz around the changes we’ll be getting at this year’s WWDC, including Macs with ARM chips and a redesigned iMac. According to a new leak on Twitter, there’s a schematic in the latest iOS 14 code that shows the new iMac. The source put a picture comparing the old schematic to the new one and it pretty much looks like the Pro Display XDR. Based on the schematic the tipster did a render and he also said that it should look like the Pro Display XDR, let’s just hope it doesn’t cost the same and the stand actually comes attached to it.

Microsoft Surface Duo launch could be just weeks away

It looks like we won’t have to wait much for the Microsoft Surface Duo after all. We were expecting this product to launch by this year’s Holidays after the pandemic delayed the Duo, the Neo and Windows 10X in general. According to a new leak from Twitter, Microsoft wants to launch the Duo before the Galaxy Fold 2 comes out. This means we should get it some time during July as we’re expecting the Fold on August 5th. The tipster doesn’t specify a launch date but he does claim that the Surface Duo should start shipping in less than two months. Specs still haven’t changed, including a Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM and dual 5.6in displays.

Take a look at these alleged iPhone 12 molds and CAD images

Some new molds for the upcoming iPhones have emerged on Twitter. These are the pretty standard ones we get each year but, there’s some differences on these ones. First off, we have the four different models we’re expecting this year and they do show the new squared design which kinda mimics the iPad Pros. However, these seem to have a regular sized notch and not the smaller one we were supposed to get according to the leaks. The LiDAR sensor isn’t on the camera array as well but, that was the case for the iPad Pro renders. Of course these are just molds and we do get changes when the actual product launches.

Story of the day:

Google Pixel 4a delayed, again?

And finally the hottest, or should I say most WTF news of the day, let’s talk about Google’s hardware division. Like talk about shooting itself in the foot. So, if you remember, Google practically killed all of the hype for the Google Pixel 4a. So much buzz around the phone, and then a crazy delay. Like the Verge even put out an article titled “Where is the Pixel 4a?” Well and now, Jon Prosser is back with another update. According to his tweet, Google has delayed the phone once again. He claims that the launch will still happen on July 13th but the phone is now listed to be launched on October 22nd. Oh, and that’s only the black variant as the new “Barely Blue” is just gone from the listing. Thing is, if you’ve ever seen the Pixel 3a in black, you’ll know why we all went for the white and purple variants. It’s horrendous.
